Re-mapping insurance

Featured Replies

Hi Guys

I have had my VRS with a stage 1 remap. I brought it 12 months ago and insured it with the same company as the guy i purchased it from and declared the Remap they charged me around £470 for the year. I am a 51 year old man with over 11 years no claims bonus. I really struggled with the guys at AVIVA to get them to understand about a remap.  the remewal is just as high, when i do a standard go-compare for un modified it comes in at around £270 so i would expect to be paying perhaps £100 more for the Remap but £200 seems a little steep.

Does anyone have any insurance companies that they use who are more understanmding of remap insurance

cheers

Adrian Flux, Sky insurance, A plan , some of the traders on here might help as well

Try Chris Knott and mention Briskoda

I was under the impression a remap of up to 20% should not affect insurance. It doesnt if you have a ford and insure with ford insure. Furthermore I believe I was insured with CIS and declared the remap as an environmental remap (ok it incresed performance too) and the insurance went down.

I use LV - remap, suspension and brake upgrade all included for a slight rise in premium.

Click the Briskoda Insurance link at the top of the page to see if that helps.

Adrian flux mate

I used to be with Adrian Flux but their quote was about £70 more expensive than the Chris Knott quote - guess who got the business :-)

It depends, I'm led to believe on a considerable number of small factors... age, other business in the quarter and so on, i.e. how much risk on the books.

I used to be with the NFU, they just wanted a letter from the co saying it was safe, no increase. Agricultural thinking I'm thinking. Shame the renewals were sky high.

If not already tried then tel:08008199320  |> http://insurance.briskoda.net, or chris knott, one in the same

mine went up to £190 from around £160 after i declared 48 years old

I put the missus on my insurance coz she is older.... drops my premium by about 25%, I now pay a little over £250 thats with 3 accidents on a VRS including breakdown and zero excess. Compare the Meerkat every time for me. That reminds me, they owe me a little Baby Oleg!

Thanks for this, i did try Adrian Flux and they came back with a price of £443 which for my profile with 11 years NCB seems a little high. I will try some of the other brokers menmtioned above

cheers

I also found LV charged me under 30 quid for my remap. It was shortly after renewal so that's pretty much an annual figure. I am 45 with similar NCB and 1 prang.

Chris knott seem reasonable as they dont hike the price after a remap and other mods declared, infact beat my renewal quote by 10%

I had my vrs remapped in December after removing the DPF ... Admiral only charged me £29 when I called them

another one for chris knott, they are very modification friendly

Did you say it was a remap or did you have to day it was "chipped"? Not that long ago I remember some saying Admiral didn't understand what a remap was so wouldn't cover it

Just to add I was with LV for several years with a standard 57 plate Petrol VRS and then 10 Plate Petrol VRS. At renewal I asked them about adding a Stage 1 bluefin remap to the policy and they said that they would no longer cover engine modifications (went over the details, ie software change not physical change etc), also phoned bac and got the same from someone else. I ended up going through Chris Knott who arranged a policy through Highway who are part of LV!

I'm 40 with 7yrs no claims and an expired SP30, Original policy unmodified with LV was 295 and new policy with remap was about 450.

I'm 53, live in Fareham, Hampshire, have over 10 years no claims and renewed with Admiral at £308 with protected no claims and legal cover. I have a Shark Stage 1 on my FL Octy VRS CR diesel

That was me. They did say they dont insure remapped cars

They also said the same to me, which I posted in the Insurance forum. It must be a misunderstanding on their part, as Brigham (above) has got cover, and I know Boss Fox had his stage 1 remapped Yeti insured with them. I ended up going with Adrian Flux, who beat my Admiral renewal quote (which didn't cover the remap).

How did you get on OP?

The specialist and modified brokers are usually the best for price by some margin and they will all compete with one another to some degree.
