Hi. I was travelling on Saturday and got a double flash from one of the cameras near jnct 5 on m25. Unfortunately i was doing around 115-120mph. What can I expect now? Any help please?

There is no such thing as an 'automatic' ban, it is down to the discretion of the court, taking into account the nature of the offence, mitigating circumstances, and what the overall effect of a ban would be

Assuming you are summoned to court, go prepared with details covering the above, if necessary get a reference from your employer if you might lose your employment etc etc

If you can speak well there is no need to blow money on a solicitor - they will probably charge upwards of £1000 to say exactly the same as you can, as at the end of the day they are acting on your instructions

A quick Google says that if you already have 6 points and the speed is severe enough, you could get given 6 points to take you to 12... And ergo a much longer ban.

I have no expertise in these areas though.

If you are over 100, then the court certainly can ban you, and you will have to apear in person at court.  I have been banned for a month for doing 104 in a capable car, the same week a different court did not ban a bloke in a re-engined Reliant Robin doing 108 - go figure.

 

 

You could try the Man Utd defence - as in it's a company car and you have no idea which employee was driving it - certainly not SIr Alex, no, no.

In that event the points are for the offence, the disqualification would be under the totting up provisions, not for the offence itself

Being a legal adviser I tend to rely on my legal knowledge over what I might find on Google

A Mobile van almost certainly got me this morning, over 60 mph in a 60 limit on a Trunk Road in the countryside at 8.00 am.

Well the only good news is if the car said 115 you were probably 'only' doing 100-105.

 

If the sat nav said 115 you're a bit ****ed.

 

You'll be in court I, if you've the money get a barrister not a solicitor.

I know a bloke that got off with a small fine and points for doing 100+ in a 60 and he belives it was the barrister arguing on his behalf that worked.

The 'old boy's club' argument doesn't really wash in a magistrates' court, I've seen some cases where the representative has flowered the case up so much it's probably worked against his client

My bro-in-law was picked up 5-6 yrs ago at 23:50 on M6 Cheshire travelling south at close to the ton. He employed a speeding specialist solicitor and received 6 points and fine (£200 ish). I took a speed awareness course last year and they said that magistrates are generally taking less/no notice of 'hardship' caused to you and yours when loosing your licence. So a toughening up on speeding by magistrates along with extra cameras
