Felicia Dashboard

Featured Replies

Sorry if this has been answered but I'm trying to mod my dashboard. Iv got one from a scrapy to work on, and need to know how to get the gauges out so its just the surcit board. I want to add LEDs in place of the old lights

I might be able to help but please tell me what is a 'surcit' for you. I need to know also how can you add a thing in place of another.

Hi there I did all blue leds In mine I found the led strips work best behind clocks with paper scanned dials then tapped in to the interior light feed in fuse box and added a mk4 golf dash dimmer switch as it was to bright

My plan is to add LEDs strips or bulbs behind the dials and using the original dash light circuit. The points on the bored are quite thick so soldering wires to them wouldn't be difficult. I just need to know how to get the rev/ rpm gauge out of the way.

There's nothing special about taking it off. Unscrew the nut and push the screw.with your thumb. It might look it is stuck, but try to lift it on the other side as vertical as possible. Don't use any metallic tool to pry.

My 2 cents:

  • take very much care with copper tracks. They are very fragile and develop tiny cracks from flexing the board causing open circuits. VDO, the German producer of the board, did a poor job using a very low amount of copper thus causing a lot of grief to Felicia owners (tacho needle jumping, fuel gauge stuck at half tank, backlight issues, temp. gauge stuck at 70C, etc.)
  • lookout for cold solder joints, age and vibration took their toll. Did I mention VDO used also the minimal amount of tin?
  • without exception, every LED backlight mods I've seen on this forum or on foreign forums (Czech and Russian) are botched jobs. The danger of ending with a bad taste, poor quality, hideous 'tuned' panel is very high. Almost everybody returned to original factory setup after a while.
  • without a proper light diffuser, LED strips cause visible light blotches.

Thanks for the advice I'll bear it all in mind. I did buy one from a scrapped car to work on, so if any thing goes wrong ill still have a working dash in the car.

Wow that is more then I was thinking, I was just going to try and improve the standard look lol. How did you light the switches and heater like that? And is the top pick a Octavia dash in a Felicia? I like that idea how is that done?

Top photo is a regular Felicia dash with new faces for each gauge. I'm talking about a special translucent printable plastic, much like the original one, except it has a more modern design. As for 'how to do it' that's another fiddly job. Not for the amateurs that glue LED strips and wires in a chaotic, ugly manner just to end up with a hideous blotchy bright blue blinding dashboard. You need careful planning and measurements, miniature LEDs mounted on circular PCBs, a steady hand, a good soldering station, an automatic dimmer, etc.

Is this what you have in mind?

Hi,

Could you please explain what is the small indicator abouve lights buttons.

And how to connect it.

I have a spare one but doesn't have a clue to connect it.

@MustafaMD - OK. It does generally help if you fill in the "Location" field and "Car" field in your profile. Then, at least those of us who use computers rather than phones can get a clear idea what we're dealing with.

In the top photo, the lights (and switches) are rear foglight (left and upper), mandatory in Europe since the 1990s. The right and lower are for front fog lights, which were not standard except on the "Felicia Fun" pickup. In the centre photo we see the rear fog  warning light again.

In the bottom photo, left to right the buttons are heated rear window (most UK market hatchbacks and estates, rare or never fitted on vans and pickups), front fogs, rear fogs, and finally hazard lights (again mandatory in Europe since the 1970s; your mileage may vary but I have no way of knowing).

Thanks for reply.

My car is Skoda Felicia 1.6L and We are in Egypt.

I was asking about that specific indicator attached below.

I found one for sale but my car didn't have such one before.

Cheers for the upvote. That looks like an early trip computer, which was quite possibly only on the Lauren and Klemens trim in the UK.

It is indeed a trip computer and I've never seen it on any UK spec car, not even the L&K's. It was an option in Europe, I've seen adverts for it when googling random Felicia stuff.

MustafaMD is waiting for specifics about that trip computer.

Thanks to my friends comments I found all data needed. As soon as they mentioned its correct name I managed to find all the data.

Its TCp6 board computer

And attached file have installation instruction.

And search youtube you will find interesting vidoes about TCp6 computer.

I own one, it's useful thing. It can be calibrated for very accurate measurements of consumption. Only thing I'm missing is average consumption per trip.

Just be careful to not get TM-3 version. That's basically fancy thermometer, without consumption measurement, it was used for diesels. And TC-6P version needs code to change settings (it was for company vehicles, so it had to be locked).

There is no RHD variant afaik, because of assymetrical shape and different measurements used in UK.

Very interesting. Just shows if you could get all the options ever offered on one Felicia it would be a very well specced car. Most of course come with hardly any. Probably not a bad thing now they're all about 20 years old.
