My poor Citigo!

Featured Replies

Had a bit on an incident this morning. I was driving to work through the school run zone, as I have done for 2 years. Going extra slowly as always, and this woman opened her door into the side of me! She opened it as I was halfway past her and the fault was hers, but, look at him! Luckily it was only the doors and mirrors, but eurgh, worst monday ever!

Bloody hell, thats a mess, when are wimminz-folks going to realise ...car mirrors are for when signalling, checking the road conditions and potential overtaking by other vehicles......not for ignoring 50% of the time and using to check their make up the other 50% :swear:

I'm totally gutted. It'll be replaced good as new, but if she doesn't admit it was her fault (which it was) then it may be my word against hers etc and I'll have to pay the excess and it'll bugger up my no claims. I'm so careful on the road. I've never even had a scratch before :( Just as I managed to make a sale of some of my old junk to buy myself a treat too! Looks like that's not going to happen now :/

I know how you feel,a year ago I'd done a yard sale of a few bits and bobs to get the money together to have some bodywork done on my old Yaris, then a machine polish and detail.Only a few days later it was looking superb so I took her out for a spin towards Bridport for a day out,2 miles from home a woman BMW driver on her mobile phone drove into the side of me on a roundabout, thankfully in my case the guy behind me caught it all on dashcam.

sorry to see this, make sure the car is repaired at a Skoda approved garage, speak to your dealer about who they recommend. Make sure it is repaired where you want, not where your insurance wants as they will send it to the cheapest place possible. Go over the car with a fine toothcomb when repaired and don't be afraid to get it sent back to be put right.

I've had two cars repaired by insurance, both weren't done to my satisfaction and had to go back. One car the paint match was so poor they ended up painting most of the car.

I don't see how she could possibly claim you were partly to blame.

You could hardly drive sideways into her open door.

Thanks everyone. I know. Oddly it happened right outside the garage where I bought the car. They've changed mainly to Suzuki now but they're still approved by Skoda and they're great guys there. I know it should be seen as her fault, but the worry is that it won't happen and I'll lose £500 to excess and my no claims, which I was actually rather proud of. Plus I've had the car less than 6 months. :(

Ouch sorry to read this. It's made alot of mess down that side.

Surely she is to blame for not looking anybody can tell that

This, and many other things I've read here and other hair raising moments behind the wheel have just about made up my mind, that £100 invested in a dashcam will be a wise move and is long overdue.

Take a tip from me and pay for the repair yourself and get the money off her.I had someone go into my front wing and bumper and where I've took my

car to before quoted me £250 and it would look like new I went down the insurance route and may lose £150 excess and 2yrs no claims because the guy is now claiming knock for knock

Buy a dashcam mate, even a £10 cheap eBay one could end up saving you one day, sorry to see the damage, I've never had a car door open on me (at least not whilst driving) but I've had 2 close calls with people just pulling out from a parallel parking space

A dashcam these days is the way to go

i like the idea of dashcams but in most cases the lawyers will use a previous case unless you want to go to court and contest.

if there are other claims of people opening doors - (which there is) your claim will follow suit.

hint: ive had it happen to me and its all the parked cars fault! so you will be fine.

Hi everyone! I spoke to my insurance company this morning and the other insurance company has accepted liability! :D Yes!!! Now I can finally get my doors replaced and my baby will be all shiny again :D That's what you get for lying, you cheeky sod! :')

Great news.

I need to get myself a dash cam I've been looking at the G1W, seems to be getting some decent reviews, and there is a lot for sale on ebay for about £30.  Although apparently there are a lot of cheap copies around that aren't as good so you have to be careful.  A guy called techmoan has done a fair few video reviews on dashcams, so worth a look.

This is mine, lasted well over a year now, the only issue? Suction mount failed after a year and that is it

Has audio so be warned :D

Some night footage (with full beam then dipped) also has audio

Oh I would also ignore the fact it was "originally £399" it's always been £37

Glad to read a later post that the other party has accepted liability.

Regarding your excess, look for excess insurance. This means you can have a far larger excess on your car insurance, thereby reducing your premiums, and the separate policy for a couple of thousand excess will be only tens of pounds.

Hope this helps - yet another "insurance against insurance" in our amazingly-complex culture of car insurance. My mate from NL gets so angry about it. Apparently, they just simply buy a standard policy there for anyone to drive the car! (Slight variation on address, but none of the "where is it parked overnight?", "how many children do you have?", "what do you do for a living?" etc.)
