Briskoda - Project Cars Thread

Featured Replies

I've been playing this over the weekend. It's good, very tricky, but good. I'm playing with a controller which makes it even harder. In fact some of the cars I've tried are downright undriveable, although some of that could be to do with the settings. I’ve followed online guides to try and optimize the controller, which has helped, but I really wish you could adjust the settings from the pause menu, going back and forth to change 5 degrees of sensitivity is a ridiculous.

I’m on PS4. The visuals are mostly good, but haven't been blown away. Loads of bugs! Engines sounds disappearing, cars jumping up and down, crashing into barriers on the way out of the pits. I could go on...

The handling is good, but a little intense for me! I think I'd prefer it a little more forgiving. Back end steps out a little - gone. Brake in the middle of a bend - gone. I'm sure I'll get better, but at the minute the frustration level is through the roof! I basically just want Forza 4 handling, with proper race weekends etc. If this game handled more to my level I think it would be 10/10. But a lot is personal preference.

I've done a full Clio Cup and Formula rookie season. I've really enjoyed the formula rookies, much more forgiving of my dodgy driving.

The engine sounds are probably the best I've heard in a game. The classic F1 cars just sound incredible. Can't drive them, but they sound good lol.

You probably need a wheel to get the best out of this game, which is a shame. A wheel just doesn’t really suit the way I like to play games.

I agree, this game is optimized for a wheel.

It's hard with a controller, but if you stick with it, the satisfaction of winning or nailing a hot lap using the controller is great! All I've done is reduce the steering sensitivity.

I'm glad they finally released it, I know the bugs will be ironed out with future patches, I just hope players stick with it.

I have found that the Clio cup car is the trickiest to master! The big GT3 cars are pretty easy in comparison.

As racing games go, P-Cars sounds the best, I was blasting around Cadwell Park in the Merc 190e DTM last night, it sounded incredible.

Yeah, the Clio's are very tricky.

Totally agree though, it is hugely satisfying when you string together a good lap.

None of the bugs are really game-breaking, so hopefully some further patches will sort it out.

This is what I've gone with:

Night and day difference from setting 2 or 3, and there isn't that much difference on some numbers... I drop the speed sens to 60 for karts and somehow manage to win, yay... However I find the Formula series single seaters a total nightmare. I'm still in arcade mode, too aggressive.

Load up the Barcelona circuit and then iplayer with an  F1 lap, got me a little bit further down the road, understanding when to balance/hold etc before throwing my wheel into the crowd. ;) Plus, the concentration and observations stopped me falling asleep during an F1 race.

Cheers Colin, i'm going to give these ago. Although I feel I've finally got to grips with the handling, there are some 'anomalies' with the hadling/controller input that are getting annoying....mainly random 'tank slapper' moments that are totally unrecoverable!

From the thread:

Steering dead zone: 0
Steering Sensitivity: 30

Throttle dead zone: 0
Throttle Sensitivity: 50

Brake dead zone: 0
Brake Sensitivity: 30

Clutch dead zone: 0
Clutch Sensitivity: 45

Speed Sensitivity: 75
Controller Filtering: 50

Force Feedback: 100
Advanced: Off

Loving the game more and more. Currently driving in the Asia GT4 championship in a Ginetta G55.....awesome car.

Really struggling with the pad.... so much so I haven't turned it on for past 2 days. Forgot how much a wheel makes a difference. I kind of want engine conversions/tuning parts too.

Im thinking about buying a wheel for xbox one, just not sure I can justify the cost.

I just been playing it for a bit as I got it today. Karts are fun but steering for the cars is very sensitive for controllers just takes some getting use to

Karts are crazy sensitive. I actually stand up for karting.

hehe tank slappers hell yeah... last lap, ut oh... round we go.... did manage a 360, kept in on track then got punted off by#2, got back on and won, what red mist... replay would of been fun, went to watch and it crashed.

I'm really struggling in the Caterhams, especially @Oulton I just cannot get round cleanly and I don't mean keeping it on track. Although Druids is a living hell for me every lap any car, except in the wet for some bizarre reason...

I was mucking about on a 50lap at snetteron 200, in one, I'd pulled a 3 lap lead by lap 25. Got a bit bored, made a pit stop, swapped driver. Came back he won by a few seconds.

Would be nice if you could tell him to come in and swap back.

I'm finding turning everything up, flags, damage, tyre wear etc and ai to 7/80% is keeping engine and conversions a long way from thinking.  Had a great race, started dry, then 2 from end rained/stormed. BMW M supercar... managed to hold the lead to the last lap then lost it. Tried it again, pitting to change... lost it. Ran inters from the off, lost it. Ran wets from the off, lost it after 7 laps in dry and 4 red blobs. Ran it on wets but took it really easy till it rained, won it.

I am loving this game more and more, like you said Colin, if you turn everything up, it becomes a thinking Man's racer.

Do I push now or burn the tires out?

Do I ignore the guy who hasn't pitted yet and run my own race?

Do I just accept 2nd place for the sake of the championship?

Never played a game like it, it's focused purely around the racing and you can do little things to get the edge on the competitors...for some reason, the default setting for fuel is to brim it? So I go out and do some practice laps, work out a rough fuel usage per lap and then set the correct fuel level for the race.

Brake ducts are always set quite far open, so closing them by a fair bit can reduce drag and give you an extra 1mph down the straight.... geeky... but I love it!

Patch is out for the game not tried it yet but there have been reports of issues with people using a wheel to play

I'm playing on PC because ps4 doesn't support a ps3 wheel. It's been good so far. Next race is 2hrs at Le Mans in an Audi LMP1

I've only just done kart championship so far

Any good on PC

Played on PS4 last week for an hour or so, quite impressed.

Its been good. Haven't fiddled much with wheel settings as there's so many to choose from. You feel understeer build up then fronts let go, same with rear. Its pretty good. Only frustrating thing is the length of time in karts.

Unplayable for me, controller lags the game out and keyboard is useless :(

Still loving this game!

I bought a Thrustmaster T300RS steering wheel and pedals last week. It's transformed the game and it all now makes sense. You don't get the same immersion/control/satisfaction from P Cars using a controller.

Has anyone downloaded the Racing Legends DLC?

It consists of 5 race cars:

- 2013 Bentley Continental GT3

- BMW V12 LMR

- McLaren F1 GTR Longtail

- Mercedes CLK GTR

- Bentley Speed 8

All 5 cars are brilliant, my favourite has to be the Bentley GT3 as it sounds as good as it does in real life. Plus compared to the other GT3 cars, it's MASSIVE, so watching replays of it sliding past the tiny Ginetta never gets old.

The DLC is £2.89 so well worth the £££££!

was getting to longer races and began to fatigue on the controller. tempted by a wheel.

did a 30lap race on spa in mixed gt. variable weather, was great got the jump on the field spotting rain. Robbed at end through a robust backmarker punting me to the wall, so a pit to repair, still raining. Then 6 laps from end it stops raining, one lap after my shunt... I bet on the leaders stopping, in which case my race is done, or not stopping and I might catch them...so I do pit, and they didn't... got from p30 back to p7 on the slicks, within sight of leader, much fun :)

I've also discovered I really like night races... you can see far easier whos about to punt you or on your inside... night in wet is a hoot!

Me too Colin, not helped by the arthritis I have in my wrist/hands either!

Purchasing a wheel was the best decision I've made. Not only can I play the game for longer (Not necessarily a good thing!) The levels of immersion are immense. I was chasing down the leader in a LMP2 race around Monza and I just felt 'in the zone' and only focused on catching the driver in front. So after 15 laps of battling and the race was over, I actually forgot I was just sat in my living room with only the Cat to congratulate me on my victory!

With the game being so unforgiving and the cars/conditions being tricky to drive, it's the first game I've ever played that I've been happy to finish in anything other than 1st place! I crossed the line at Oulton park in 8th position and was actually happy with the result.....

Resurrecting a bit of an old thread here, but hey.

Are you still playing Project Cars? It is literally the only game I play with limited time I have available for gaming! I've put in hours and hours and became pretty damn good at it with the controller. I generally play on 100 difficultly and 100% race length. Completed many championships and currently racing in LMP1 in the endurance series.

As much as I love the game it is definitely lacking without a wheel. It forces the use of assists like traction control as the back end stepping out is damn near impossible to catch with any sort of consistency. Controlling the amount of opposite lock with a controller is very difficult.

Anyway the point of all this is... I've been considering getting myself a wheel - the T300RS in fact. Looks like it's the best option on PS4.

The problem is I just don't know where to put it and if it will be comfortable to use. I have my PS4 in my living room hooked up to a nice 46" Sony Bravia. I can't picture how I could set it up to use without re-arranging my living room! Did you buy a stand for it? Do you use yours while sitting on the sofa?

I really want to play this game with a wheel but I can't decide if the hassle is worth the pay off.

Cheers.
