Superb 2.5 tdi

Featured Replies

Hello, just joined hoping to get information on changing the timing belt of my Superb 2.5 tdi which I have just purchased. It is a 2003 with under 50k on the clock. The last owner said it had been done but failed to produce the promised paper work. if it had been done would you expect to see a sticker on the engine? Is there any way to check on the belt itself. Many thanks great site.

Hello D24d  :hi:

Could the owner tell you who did it, so you could check with them (garage?).

I bought mine with a FSSH at 41k miles, but on checking (and lucky that I did) mine hadn't had the belts done, so the garage honoured it and did them before I accepted the car.  There are no clues on mine that it's been done, and the garage wouldn't supply invoice paperwork, so I took the service book back to them and had them annotate clearly that the belts (and water pump) had been done.

I'd suggest if you can't be sure, get it done for peace of mind.  Have the water pump and idler done at the same time - it's false economy not to.

Thanks Gaz. I see in the service book it is ticked as done, so maybe I will just trust thst it is. I have taken the covers of and had a good look around and it all looks quite fresh and new, so I will just keep an eye on it. I understand it is about £1500 to have the job done including pump and stat, is that about right?

Nowhere near, although it does depend on where you go, and I'm sure someone will happily charge you that much! :o

Mine are due next year and I was reckoning on £600 or so, all in.

However a quick rummage on the Bay brings this up:

which I find interesting.  This is not an endorsement as I know nothing about this company, but OEM parts and good feedback shows it's important to shop around.  Appreciated that this is nowhere near you - it's just an example.

Better news than what you're expecting
