Octavia 2013 vrs petrol fuel economy?

Featured Replies

Hi all

I am going to buy an 2013 Octavia VRS manual petrol next year. Why am I waiting, just so that the prices get low enough I can afford a cash buy. I can't find an answer to my question on the forum. My question to owners of this model is, what sort of real world mpg can you get? My mileage per year is around 20k with long runs to various places of work. I know what the official figures are, but take with a pinch of salt comes to mind! I also know a VRS diesel would be the ideal car on this sort of mileage, but had a diesel Accord in the past and I have worked out, I don't really like diesels. Would be grateful for an answer to this, although I must admit, whatever it is I am still buying one.

I have similar mileage to you and have an average of 37mpg and can get 45mpg on a long motorway run at 70. I use Tesco 99

My dsg tsi is averaging about 30mpg at the moment but only has 500 miles on it and I've had some horrendous journeys of late

Mines a DSG. Although it's only got 1000 miles on the clock, I've managed 42mpg on a 70mph motorway run, 39mpg on a more brisk motorway run and generally around 32mpg on normal day to day journeys.

Press the fast pedal a little hard though and it easily drops into the 20's......

Thank's for the swift answer TonyD. That sounds okay to me, as I am used to my Mazda 3 2.0 petrol Sport doing around 38mpg on most of my runs. I can get a little more when driving on full economy mode, but you know how it is when the right foot needs to hit the gas pedal. I need all this new car information, so that the other half does not moan too much when I spend that much cash. I can point out how over long term it's a money saving, will that work?

Thanks Rickf and Brooksuk as well for the info.

Return 100 mile each way motorway runs with short inner city driving at both ends. At 70+8 on digital read out. Vrs dsg tsi = 35mpg. 9,000 miles on car.

I am averaging just under 28mpg from a manual TSI after covering 9k miles. Most of my driving is around town, but the occasional motorway cruise will return mid to late 30's. Best ever full tank has returned 35mpg, worst was 23mpg.

I do about 25k miles a year and did the same as you.

Best pre remap on a good run was 50.3mpg!!!

Best post map has been 47mpg!!

Long term average 39mpg.

I do some sizeable motorway runs so benefit from cruising.

Out of interest, what's your budget/hoping for them to go down to if you don't mind me asking?

I am hoping they go down to around £12k to £12.5k. Price of course alters with mileage, but the lower the mileage the better. New cars do depreciate fast the first 3 years. If they don't go down that much, I may have to wait a little longer, as I don't want to spend any more and don't like finance. Do you think this price is unrealistic? I have seen that some cars are way above book price at the moment though.

Hold it, hold it.... 2013 vrs?  Are you aware that is when the mk ii face lift, mk iii change happened?   The mk iii vrs arrived mid year... Error...August??   So before that it's a mk ii fl and should be a fair bit cheaper.

As for the money you have to spend, are you intending to hunt out a private seller or do you want to buy from a main dealer?  I'd be surprised if you couldn't afford a mk iii private sale ( but just guessing),  less convinced about a dealer but probably close.... Bet you'd get a mk iii with change to spare.

I'm sure Telboy has the miracle car, those figures are not the norm for the tsi.  I drive sensibly (mostly) and 65% moto way miles.  Long term average is  36.5 mpg.  I have managed 40.2 over an entire tank, but never had it higher other than sections of a journey.  I hope my best will improve a little this summer though.... First summer with the engine run in/loosened.

I was after a mk3 yes, due to the better mpg than the mk2. I did not know exactly when it changed from a mk2 to a mk3 though, so thanks for telling me. I thought it changed at the beginning of 2013. Looks like from a dealer I need to spend more. Maybe a private seller would be within my price range. Would miss a warranty though spending this much money.

The standard mk iii came in early 2013, the vrs came later that summer.  The l and k came 2014.

My 2013 vrs petrol estate returns 35 short runs and 45 on motorway.I'm happy enough.

2015 vrs tsi dsg- 750 miles, 26-28mpg round town. Waiting for a stonechip kit to be fitted before i do a motorway run. Thats on shell v power, gentle acceleration in normal mode. Hopefully it will improve slightly! :-0
