Start-stop system errors

Featured Replies

Each time I've had an EPC light and stop/start error my s/s system has been active. I have no issues when it's manually deactivated. Today driving home I pulled up at a set of lights, chose neutral, handbrake on, the engine turned off. When I dipped the clutch to start the engine nothing happened and the maxidot said "Manually start car" I had to turn the key. The s/s system is getting mor and more unreliable. As a precaution I checked my battery status and it's at 80% so the issue doesn't lie there. I look like booking it in with the dealer yet again.

If the battery was low you shouldnt get a engine warning light.

It should just disable stop-start & give you a message in the vehicle inforamtion that StopStart is disabled due to "low state of charge" or something like that.

Your problem might not be due to StopStart.

Whenever there are any engine related error codes, StopStart will be disabled (also ACC and front-assist) so you will see the engine warning or MIL light plus you will get the messages:

    - StopStart Not Available

    - ACC Not Available (if fitted)

I think you need a trip to the dealer for them to understand the error codes.

  • These are not Stop/Start errors..!!!! They are just messages informing you about the state of the Stop/Start system so that you can understand why the engine has restarted on does not stop when you m

  • I think the stop start system is really excellent - these advisories are helpful, because I want an explanation when it doesn't turn the engine off. Why do you want to waste fuel sitting at the lights

  • I agree it is possibly more useful in densely trafficked areas where you sit around at lights and in jams more, but not for where I drive. Just don't like it coughing back into life every five minute

The problem is they're insisting there are no errors showing when they have the car even though the warning light came on when they had it.

Sounds like you're in for a long bumpy ride like me. Last time mine was in ( taking it to day 99 in the garage) they organised a "skoda technical visit" from a "senior technician" and they still could not find the root cause. I am told the same thing, the error code does not log anything and the have also driven the car when the car faults.

To say skodas are supposed to be highly rated when it comes to reliability my 2 have been problematic. My previous car, a yeti had ht lead failure, castellated rear tyres, paint worn away on the rear doors from stone chipping and a rattle sometimes on start up. Before I bought it it had already had a new timing chain, water pump and turbo, all under 30k miles. This car in the 18 months I've had it has had the bolero screen replaced and a fix on my creaking seat and its only done 23k. It's only these recent years I've had nearly new cars and I find my much older cars I've had were totally reliable. It does make me think that all these nearly new cars are for sale because they all have problems.

SamIOW - I am on the IOW at the end of July if you want me to take a look - I'll be near Bembridge.

You don't happen to know an old friend of mine, Tony Hirst, do you?

Andy - yes that would be good thanks for the offer. I may have it swapped by then though, fingers crossed! I will let you know.

No I don't know Tony!

Just let me know - I can bring my cable if you have a laptop you can install VCDS on to?

Well in the space of a month I've had ss error messages with epc light and limp mode 4 times now. One time the car switched off and told me to restart the car manually with the key. I'm in the process of trying to get it sorted with my local dealer but so far today they are too busy to come to the phone and keep saying they'll call back.
