Amundsen sat nav maps update.

Featured Replies

Is anyone else having trouble downloading their Amundsen files from the Update Portal?

I've been streaming (more like dribbling) since yesterday and it still says 2 days to go.

I've tried at home with Virgin superfast and at work where we have a very fast pipe (company car so shouldn't be a problem) but it's very slow both ways.

Is it down to traffic?

Is there somewhere else that I can go to get the files?

  • yes you must unzip all files before copying them to the SD card.

  • If you own a VW you can download the maps. Skoda haven't got round to releasing them yet. I've been running the ECE2015/6 maps on my Columbus for a week or so now. Keep checking the update portal, S

  • So they are - I've just posted a direct download link. No sign of the Columbus ones yet though.

No problems for me..downloading as I type now. Says total time for download is 37 mins... downloading at 2.45mbps.

I found I could download them from the VW site (select 2013 Golf, Discover Media) and they worked on my Amundsen fine.

The map download actually has the branding in it for VW, Audi, Skoda and Seat - it appears to be a single download for all.

Which is what I did weeks ago for the Columbus maps, but I wasn't going to post a link to the vw maps on a skoda forum as they are not quite the same if you look closely enough :)

All this talk about upgrading Sat Nav Maps has me thinking - Surely someone by now has worked out a way of copying the MBR (Master boot record) of the original Skoda(VW) SD card and use that to image a non standard Skoda SD card.

Using something like 'HDD Raw Copy Tool'

... Just in case something should happen to your Original Skoda SD card.

I tried to copy with Win32DiskImager

And it worked with sandisk card but failed with a chipo card, same size..

At least I have an complete img file and a spare map card :)

interesting Andy - interested to know what the differences are - do VW have a different view of the world to Skoda?

Further on this thought, when you go the Sat Nav VW website and select a Polo 2014 with Discover Media (a Amundsen), why then is that a 14.2GB download, does this then include the extras that are not in my 2014 Octavia Amundsen, such as the Mirrorlink options?

Don't know, but there is a 3Gb+ difference in size on the Columbus maps, seems Skoda include the MIB2 update in the same download.

Let us know how you get on. I'm still waiting for my original SD card to arrive in the post. Hence why I was trying to fiddle the system.

I'm still struggling to download the 6Gb update.... keeps stopping part way (Bloody Google Download manager)

When I was in there the other day they had a 3 for 2 offer on most car cleaning stuff. I don't know if it's still on now but worth a look.

Hi, I've just checked and 20015/16 maps update for Amundsen are available for my chassis number. Just one question before I download the update, do I need a separate programme to unzip the file or can I just use windows 8?

Thanks

did you read the instructions

Finally my original Skoda SD card arrived, so naturally I want to copy it so it doesnt get corrupted and I need to fork out a huge amount for a new original part.

I copied the Skoda SD using 'Win32 Disk Imager', all seemed to work successfully, I then tried putting that back on a 8GB Sandisk card, this failed due to not enough space available.

So I tried putting it onto a 16GB Sandisk card, this worked and on showing the new SD cards properties it showed that the SD was the same as the original SD card 8,031,043,584 bytes.

But on putting it in the car, please insert a Navigation media.

Rats, hows on earth is it doing that - it's identical. ish!

Any ideas? is it worth trying 'HDD Raw Copy Tool' ?

I wonder if it would be better to do the SD card using a PC running Linux rather than Windows?

It is probable that the Amundsen is running Linux too and looks for information embedded in the SD card that would be invisible under Windows.I say that having unsuccessfully used raw copying tools to do the task under Windows.

Hopefully someone will come along with Linux expertise to suggest a way forward (or not)

It's certainly a shame not be able to make a working SD card backup

So I tried using Ubuntu Linux, made a copy of the SD Card by running: sudo dd if=/dev/sdd of=sdSkodaimage.img bs=4096 conv=notrunc, noerror, sync

Then restored that to another SD Card by running: sudo dd if=sdSkodaimage.img of=/dev/sdd bs=4096 conv=notrunc, noerror, sync

Again I had to use a 16gb card which then formats to the 8.03gb which the original SD card is.

Result, same as before.

Its got to be reading the CID of the SD Card, and making sure it matches something within the software. Until someone knows how to fix this then it seems to be a pointless exercise, for now.

I couls have told you that, SD stands for Secure Digital for a reason and it isn't to do with the MBR :)

DRM on CD/DVD/BluRay was supposed to be secure, that didn't last long :D

I've heard chatter of SD cards without a place to write the CID, maybe the solution lies this way.

I'm just wanting a working backup! Just in case something goes wrong with original, not that the sat nav is any good verses Google maps  :p

Can anyone tell me whether the June 2015 updates for the Amundsen system are available yet?  I have tried putting my VIN number in on the Update Portal, but just get a message saying "An unexpected error.  Please try again later".  I have tried several times and re-checked my VIN but still get the same.  Is it me?

They were up, and I have successfully downloaded them from that site.

However - it is now giving me the same error message as you are getting.

The direct download link in this thread still seems to work.

Thanks for that, but, judging by the file name, it looks like this link is for the November 2014 update, not the June 2015 one, if it yet exists.

Could you clarify?  Thanks.

Otherwise, I think I will wait a week or two before trying again.

That is the latest file. Vw/skoda takes a fair few months to process the data from HERE before they pass it on.
