Amundsen sat nav maps update.

Featured Replies

Hi I've had my Octavia 15 months and thought it's about time I updated the maps on the sat nav. I've read the Skoda website and it looks quite a complicated process - I'm not too good with IT. Is it as complicated as it reads or straightforward enough not to go wrong if I follow the instructions closely? Any advice/confirmation would be much appreciated. Especially on pitfalls to watch out for.

  • yes you must unzip all files before copying them to the SD card.

  • If you own a VW you can download the maps. Skoda haven't got round to releasing them yet. I've been running the ECE2015/6 maps on my Columbus for a week or so now. Keep checking the update portal, S

  • So they are - I've just posted a direct download link. No sign of the Columbus ones yet though.

Download all the files to your PC.

Take the original Skoda SD card, put into PC.

Copy all files from SD card to a known location (backup).

Blank the SD card

Copy all files from the download location to the SD card.

Put back into SD slot in glovebox.

It's a bit scary clearing/overwriting the contents of your SD card but you have to do it as no other SD card is recognised you must use the Skoda one!

Sheldon.Copper, do you know which files you have to remove to get rid of anything that ins't the UK ?, gotta think it'll run/booy up faster/better without the rest of the EU in there too.

The map data is one big database, it is not possible to have just a single country.

Sheldon.Cooper, thanks for the reply do I have to compress/decompress any of the files before transfer to the memory card? The Skoda website indicates there is a need to download 7.z extraction programme.... Whatever that?

yes you must unzip all files before copying them to the SD card.

The system seems to do it all for you now.  I can no longer find a link to download the actual file itself.

What you download is a Downloader.exe program (which seems to mean you need Windows). When run, this downloads all the data as one large file and then prompts you for the SD card location to unzip it to.

Leave it a couple of weeks - the maps on the update portal at the moment are the ECE2015 maps released last November.

The ECE2015/6 maps will be out sometime this month, no point updating twice in quick succession.

Does maps to the Columbus come at the same time? Or are they perhaps the same?

Different maps, normally released within a couple of days of each other.

What is the format for formating the Skoda Sd card to update my Amundsen sat nav

I.E, fat 32, 64 bit or 32 bit using  windows 8 this is not made clear when asked to delete/format sd card

and how after formating is my sat nav able to tell it's a Skoda sd card.

FAT32

A SD card has a hidden security partition that you cannot overwrite with the windows formatter (hence why they are called Secure Digital).

Maps should be out any day now, Skoda usually release right at the end of May. I believe VW have already released them for their equivalent units.

The VW ECE2015/2016 maps seem to work fine on my Columbus, been running them for a week now :)

I have a 2012 plate octy with Amundsen sat nav, it's currently got an SD card & has 2 cd type disks, maps are out dated. Can someone point me in the right direction to update my map & also at what cost?

You need to download from skoda update site to PC then extract to large 32gb sd card as mentioned above but depend when your car was registered may be out of free updates (3yrs) - not sure if anyone else with a newer car with Amundsen can 'lend' you their vin number to get the update or if this then uses their allocation up or if the download itself is coded to a vin number?

What format does the SD card need to be with columbus? Or does it read both exFAT and NTFS when upgrading the maps? Will be getting a 64GB wich I plan to use for music after updating the maps.

I literally just used a 64gb SDXC card which was formatted to exFAT already (I couldn't reformat easily on win 7) and worked ok with my Columbus.

No!

Amundsen you have to overwrite the original Skoda card.

Just noticed it is a 2012 plate, so the OP needs to buy new maps from the dealer as it is a O2 and a different Amundsen unit.

Ah, assumed same all round - will note for scout, my bad

Hi, has anyone discovered a way of adding speed camera data to the sat nav? My 2014 Octavia is the first car I have had with built in sat nav, but really miss the speed camera info from my TomTom.

Yeah, me too. I have just ordered a new VRS with the Amundsen but will still continue to use my TomTom as it has the latest live speed cameras and live traffic updates.

Unless anybody knows a better way.

Or add the new SmartLink option onto your car, which in theory allows you to use the navigation in your phone on the car's built in screen. I'm interested to see how well it works in practice on my car (due in two months).

Yes

There was a thread from about 6 months ago about adding speed cams to the Columbus as custom POIs.
