Who's using the dearer unleaded petrol?

I filled up with the cheaper Shell unleaded ad averaged 55mpg I filled up yesterday with the dearer Shell unleaded and i'm averaging 64mpg

For some strange reason mine hated V Power so I went back to normal.

I don't think that even Shell would claim a 16% improvement in consumption between the two. There are too many variables in ordinary driving over a limited mileage to trust figures like that.

If you cover 1000 miles on one, then 1000 miles on the other....you could put more trust in the results.

Mine deffinitely 'feels' better, more responsive and smoother on the good stuff

I used to own a 1.0l 3 cylinder before, I used super unleaded in that (it had a non metal fuel tank that could become degraded by the ethanol in normal unleaded, apparently) and it definitely ran better, although I don't remember working out the fuel economy on it

I'm going off the info on the Sat Nav

the difference is the RON isnt it? 95 for unleaded 97 - 99 for upper grades.

The citigo is configured to run on 95 - all ive ever read is there wont be any benefit from higher RON

Manual says there might be benefits if you use higher octane. These have knocking sensors, so these could adjust ignition timing depending which fuel is used.

I used Shell V-Power, and my car's mpg went up massively on average, as well as throttle response increasing. It felt much smoother to drive, too. Especially on cold starts. 

ive done some reading around - its mainly for high power engines really, which the citigo is right at the other end of the scale. But Im going to fill up at the weekend with my local sainsbury super unleaded. will let you know what it does..

It has sounded a bit pinky lately...

It may need more than one tank to get benefits. Ecu may need some time for adjusting itself.

I'll join in on this, I used superunleaded, like yourself from Sainsburys, found my MPG to drop rather than increase and a while after using my engine made funny noises on cold start ups

I used to go to the one at Ferndown with the occasional trip to Alder Hills,but the stop start traffic on the hills wasn't a lot of fun.

Sainsburys fuel is supplied by BP or used to be, so not really slop lol

Its all about tank maintenance....something they do very little of. :|

I've always used supermarket standard petrol & managed just under 60mpg on a round trip to Scotland & back to Devon, & around 57 mpg overall since new roughly 3.5k ago. This is working with the odometer on the car, not PID & filling the tank click to click. This seems about right with the 'auto' box. A lot better than the previous Hyundai Amica anyway.

Well, its only doen a few hundred miles, and there is no noticeable difference so far.. but I shall take on board the comments about sainsburys - its certainly been "out of breath" latel, so I will give another forecourt a go at normal and premium, but I like my nectar points :)

I use whatever 95 ron from whatever petrol station I pass. Tried super once, made it much less economic and no speed difference. Its a 60hp ibiza, not a veyron lol. FWIW I have never noticed a difference between fuels from different stations

I used to run a microlight aircraft with 2-stroke engine on Morrisons normal unleaded & it worked perfectly so I reckon the Citigo should be OK.

I have just gone over 10k in mine and a tankful covers on average 360 miles from full to warning light. I reckon this to be about 53mpg, somewhat short of the promised 70+mpg, but I do tend to be a bit heavy on the right foot.

Last tank I filled with super and still have half a tank left so I will be interested to see what my overall mileage will be.
