Out in the car this afternoon .. and the temperature gauge shot around to 130c

stop and call Skoda assistance, they sent out a van but it can't repair it at road side, he thinks its the thermostat

Not that I've heard of, but a bad thermostat wouldn't be unheard of. There have been several reports of bad water pumps, though. Do you know if your coolant was low?

Car was towed to storage last night, and will be delivered to Crawley Down service center in the morning

I hope they can fix it fast.. and give me a replace car to get to work..

Roadside Ass said they will have to drop the front of the car off, to fix it..

I will get back to you all tomorrow, when Skoda telling me

Lets hope it's not a re-occurrence of the plastic water pump impeller failure that afflicted the Mk1 VRS!

It isn't plastic .....

Since 2000 the impeller has been made from PPS (PolyPhenelineSulfide) - prior to that the plastic ones were Durethan, which had a habit of failing.

VAG don't do metal impeller OEM water pumps. PPS is a silver colour and looks like an alloy, hence why people incorrectly call them metal.

Thanks for that Andy.

Baz555, hopefully it'll be an easy fix for you.

Sounds like an electrical gremlin.

If the engine temp was indeed off the scale you'd have felt the heat when you popped the bonnet to check the coolant.

have you asked skoda assist to provide a car for you?  If not you should as you've got more chance of getting one out of them than the dealer when its towed

Don't have the greatest faith in that place from past experience, things not done right, things not done etc. Hope it goes well and you find out what was wrong just a heads up to keep an eye on it

Be interested to know how they got on with it

If water temps were normal my guess would be a faulty oil pump.

water temp was 130c but the car wasn't steaming when i open the bonnet

That is very high for water temps so could be a failed sensor (as already suggested), water pump or radiator fan.

Did you check oil temps? If water was really at 130 I would expect oil temps to be very high also. 130 would be very very high if real so hopefully just a sensor malfunction.
