Looks like all my problems came back to two things.

Fuel and clutch.

 

Fuel system is being sorted with a modified arrangement in the tank.

 

Clutch was a race spec friction disc with an incorrectly supplied fast road pressure plate.

Due to the mismatch in thickness it was tested and would only hold around 120lb/ft.

Replacement on the way...

 

Looking good to have the car ready in about two weeks.

So will have a week or so to test it before Brands on the 1st November.

JDR are going to lend me one of their LED strips to go on the front they use for night racing.

Apparently they are rather bright...

Actually, I might go with the 130ws as well, in case I turned out to be one of the people who see better using halogens than using LEDs (or Plasma Discharge units).

I'll have to check my clutch.. an intentional mix and match lol,.. got a Helix setup with a race spec pressure plate with fast road clutch disc, didn't want to run a paddle clutch as they are a pain in traffic. Do you know what make yours is Richard?

Put the stickers on this afternoon before realising the OEM ones don't go right to the edges of the wheelarches.

So a little trimming to do.

I am mate yes.

Sessioned so will get four 20 minute slots with the other closed wheel cars over the day.

Two before lunch and two after.

Usually an hour between them.

Between sites around lunchtime, might swing by..

Good test day today.

The aim was to try and get into the 55 seconds.

First session out I had a few moments with the back out.

Dialled some more front brake bias in and managed to dip under the 56 second mark.

Second session out pressed on a bit more.

Did have a trip through the gravel at Paddock, but I got it turned around and out the other side so could continue.

After the off I managed to improve on the time showing the car has the pace to be a top 10 contender in the CSCC Tin Tops if I can handle 40 minutes of full on racing.

The afternoon saw a gear selector issue, I only had third and forth. Then it got stuck in one of those.

So box is coming out Monday.

After today I am quite pleased that the car has some real pace and mechanical issues aside it will allow me to mix it up with the established racers in the Tin Tops next Sunday.

If I could repeat the lap times today (possibly unlikely as twice as many cars on the grid) I could be looking at a top 10-12 finish.

Which would be almost unthinkable in my first race.

Looking forward to the 1st now. Aside from the mechanical issues looks like a great practice was had. The time was good for the first time you've properly been in the car

Quality a bit poor as you'd expect from a Vbox as it's more of a data logger.

 

 

The other Fiestas are from a different series, with less power and slicks.

There was a Ford thing on at Brands last weekend so they were out testing for that.

Gear selector issue sorted, back at Brands for a couple of hours to check it was OK.

Can ran well despite the damp conditions, then the altenator ate it's bearings...

Sourced one from Lotus Elan, but before it could be fitted it got dark and the track closed.

 

We'll have to see what Sunday brings.

10:00 Qualifying.  30 minutes.

12:50 Race.  40 minutes with a mandatory pit stop.

 

No question the car is quick.

Did a 55.22 despite not being able to use the inside of clearways as it was too slippery still, rest of track had dry lines.

But now dealing with the issues of taking a car, turning it up to 11 and only being able to test it on track.

Just caught up with your racing antics Richard and as I said at Castle Coombe when we were rally crossing in the Yeti, you have a natural ability to drive quick, the Fiesta seems to suit your style too.
