That's very much my point; the straights at Spa are so long that a Fester will rev out but that's not an issue at Knockhill, but the challenge of the corners and elevation changes is still there.

Everything considered it is surprisingly cheap for competitive motorsport because it's a class designed to keep the Fiesta Cup cars and various other cars going for longer than they would.

You just need to find the car that suits after it's finished doing what it was originally built for.

 

I got a bit lucky with the car, getting it for £5,000 with all the spares and tyres.

But the other one was only £7,000 and that has a better spec including a locking front diff.

It seems about the going rate...

 

The fees are £100 per year to be a member of the CSCC and £385 per car for race day.

That is a 30 minute qualifying session and a 40 minute race.

But there is a mandatory pitstop where you can change drivers (or get out, shut the door and get in again) to allow people to spread the costs by sharing the race time.

 

I worked out it's going to be around £385 per race for the track and £160 per race in tyres and brakes, using good parts.

As the car is under 1,000kg they should last around 3 or 4 races.

Split that between two and it starts to become affordable really for people thinking of giving it a go.

 

There is no commitment to the number of races you must do, so you just book in for the ones you want.

I plan to do 7 or 8 out of the 10 on offer.  Unless I get the bug.

 

It only gets expensive if you smash the car up but the CSCC does promote clean racing.

Or get the modding bug, as the rules are fixed, but leave space for tuning... :peek:

 

I did consider the trackday trophy but it's a simple power/weight race.

I wanted to do CSCC Tin Tops as there is a class for 2000cc Fiestas with about 6-8 running, plus all the cars are similar in performance with around 30 on track at each race which should make it exciting.

 

I also know the driver/owner of the quickest 2000cc Fiesta in the Tin Tops (usually in the top 5-10 overall) through the Fiesta STOC (due to my 14 plate ST) so I fancied having a go at this as my aim is to be battling with him after a year or so...

 

 

 

The way I look at it, is that a year's racing isn't that different to what many people lose on a new car.

I know what I'd rather be doing.

You also need to allow £2,000 as a one off cost to get your National B Racing License, helmet, overall, HANS device, boots, gloves, undergarments etc...

I cannot wait to see these cars.

To get FGFs in the spec I wanted was over £10k per car.

I am not financing other people's fun and taking the risk thanks.

It's recommended that you buy the "Go Racing" pack from the RAC MSA before doing an ARDS test. It will tell you stuff like about getting your medical done, and includes an instructional DVD.

I can see why the ST makes a really good base to start with. Even as a standard road car they are leagues ahead of everything else in its class.

No they ain't they are rather sluggish when compared to any other hot hatch.

Clio 172/182 blow them to bits, a 1.6l 106 gti will muller it

Even a simple remapped mark 1 fabia vrs will abliterate it (in a straight line of course)

They are not quick in the slightest

Its a 2.0l engine with 147bhp (rather underwhelming)

Compare it to an ep3 type r for example. 197bhp from 2.0l
