Central locking fails on Front Passenger door in mk1 tdi 4wd

Featured Replies

I recently bought a Skoda Octavia 2000 TDI 4WD here in Norway. It was a good price but it did have a few problems. Namely all the electrics on the front passenger door (front right) does not respond; central locking, the electric mirror does not function (moving or heating) or the electric window. The electric window sometime works for the control on the door. I have had the door card off and inspected the door control and could not see any obvious damage and have also looked at the cable boot. Again with no obvious signs of damage. The door card had clearly been removed before and a less than adequate job was done when replacing. The seal and insulation looked dodgy so I am not the first to be here.

I think the door controller is at fault since the door receives power to run the window (albeit intermittently) but I can't seem the find the part I want. Again I am not expert in the matters so I am more than happy to listen to alternatives...

I think you're right it sounds like the window motor module. It could have had water ingress so may look fine but internally is screwed. Have you unplugged it and checked the pins on the multiplug? As you slide the clip up its stepped as you pull the plug out. Big rectangle plug at bottom of window motor. If you're any good with a multimeter or know someone who is that come in handy. Have a look round the unit and plug first, you may well find corroded pins.

I had exactly the same faults (except window fault)on my car. Albeit the drivers in the UK, it turned out to be the wiring loom in the door where it plugged into the motor control unit.

I did unplug the unit and inspected the multiplug and again no obvious signs of corrosion, etc. I do have a multi-tester and some training and experience in electrical engineering but without a meaningful diagram of what the pins are it is difficult to test. I had hoped  removing the multiplug, cleaning the plug and then re-seating it would fix the problem but no luck. It least the problem didn't worsen. My goal is to source a multiplug (new or recycled). New ones seem to be part of kit including the window motor which seems unnecessary. Searching for the module seems fruitless. Any suggestions?

Quite often when breakers sell the window regulator they often leave the motor and module on, try looking for a regulator on ebay and see what you can find. If the part number of the motor/plug doesn't match exactly with last initial it will need coding in with vcds.

Have a good look round the wiring loom for any damaged or fatigued wires especially round areas of stress. One of the window regulators can rub the loom as well. Some wires may 'look' ok but can be broken down within the insulation. I'm no sparky at all but I suppose you can check for voltages at each plug/connection. Sometimes the wires can be breaking down where they slot into the multiplug, many people have found they crumble and pop out when given a wiggle despite looking fine.
