Columbus Issue - anyone had this before?

Featured Replies

Hi All,

We are having an issue with our Columbus unit in our Superb.

A few months ago it reset itself - turned on the ignition and the lanuage in the Columbus defaulted to Czech (or German ?); definitely not English. I managed to change it back to English, but then noticed all the pre-set radio channels had gone, so I had to re-input them.

More worryingly, the steering wheel controls to change radio channels and skip tracks on CD, HDD etc have stopped working and the Navigation part of the Maxidot also has stopped working, so I have to have the map REALLY zoomed in to see where I am going at junctions.

I've put up with this for a couple of months now. I had a few changes made via VCDS (thanks therevjr) a few weeks ago and the Columbus and the steering wheel controls are communicating, just not working. Also tried a hard reset but no difference. In the last few days the Columbus now refuses to hold any pre-set radio stations, so we have to manually search for ones we want. We can store them, but when we turn the engine off, they all disappear.

So, my question is, has anyone had this sort of issue before and is there a fix? I'm hoping an upgrade of the firmware will sort it out, but wanted to hear form others if this is a known issue.

The car is a 59 reg Superb CR170. Columbus uniot is an older type (can't display the Hardware and Softwware versions).

Thanks

You could try a firmware upgrade. In your case the unit has issues so nothing to be lost really, but it could be a fatal process and make things worse if the fault is hardware related. You could get halfway through an update and it rejects it, then you're stuck with a useless unit unless you can recover it. Given that it's not much use as is, I'd be doing that with a view to hoping it's a fix rather than a kill.

Had a similar issue with a dealer supplied disk update that has killed my multi function steering wheel that they now say will cost me 330 to fix...

Are you sure you don't just need to reset the coding for the unit so that it knows your cars configuration?

Hi i have a 2005 superb that has reset the lanuage to german could you please tell me how you managed to get it turned back to english

Thanks

If it's a 2005 Superb then you won't have the Columbus system installed I guess. Most likely you'll have the previous generation (was it called the Nexus?) which is different to the Columbus.
