Thinking of buying a Macbook

Featured Replies

Well. The end is in sight.

Pretty much got the cash sorted.

Just need to decide on how im buying it now (:

I do website work and I own a 13inch retina MacBook Pro and I can honestly say it is the best purchase I have made. The build quality is outstanding, the operating system is fast and stable, and the bootcamp feature allows you to dual boot Windows if you really need the option.

Absolutely love the machine and really does increase productivity. Well worth the money :)

Yeah it has this feature built in called Bootcamp where you just select a downloaded Windows ISO and it installs Windows and all the MacBook drivers on a seperate partition. It's good if you have some specialist Windows software or if you want to play a few games! :)

I've had this one since last November and had the slightly older MacBook before that one. Always used to swear by Windows computers until I had a go on my ex's MacBook and I was sold :D

They are expensive but I really can see why now. They are very light, they are built like tanks (well... not quite, but a lot better than most laptops!) and the support is brilliant. If you have any trouble in the first year you can just pop along to an Apple store and they generally take care of it there and then, sometimes even things that are your own fault.

I bought my old MacBook in after I dropped it and cracked the display. It was 6 months out of warranty and they replaced the screen there and then for free! :)

I have a late 2011 Mac book Pro, never missed a beat, works today as it did the day I bought it. Operates seamlessly and no Anti Virus software used since I bought it.

Compliments my iphone and ipad mini

I can vouch for that! I don't think I've had more than 2 or 3 crashes... ever!

They also have a bunch of cool little features like internet recovery. Say your hard drive goes or you upgrade the drive, it has a built in feature to download the latest operating system. Really great stuff imo

All stuff i didnt know existed and sounds brill!

Even more sold now haha.

I do need to buy something pronto. My iphone 5s is nearly full (8gb) and cant back up because my icloud is full. I refuse to pay extra a month for more icloud storage though.

I think this is why my phone keeps occassionally running slow?

Haha (:

Macbook Pro with retina display. The £999 one.

I5 2.7ghz processor, turbo's to 3.1

8gb ram

128gb harddrive.

The £999 RRP one.

Oh and the disc drive too. Which is RRP £65. As the new ones dont seem to have em built in

Very nice, loverly piece of kit.

Mine's almost 6 and still works as good as the day I got it, you won't regret buying it for one minute

Hope this isn't annoying, but one can get decent discounts on these things. About 15-20% and they're proper UK models, fully supported by Apple UK. I can recommend a supplier from personal experience if you like.

I'm interested in this as I'm thinking about taking the same plunge myself (can't find many Windows laptops with decent specs, 16GB of RAM, etc). I can get a small contribution from work which helps with the cost, but if there are better places to buy than Apple retail then that would be useful too...

Well, I get all my Apple gear from a guy called Jonny Singh, based out in Ilford.

It's important that they're official UK stock, brand new, UK keyboard, etc, will be honoured by Apple support & all that.
Quite a few sellers on eBay and even Amazon claim that they're UK, give the UK part numbers but aren't anything of the sort!

But I'd also be curious to know if there are other, even better options - new-mac-discount.com? ;-)

Seems slightly iffy, although good eBay feedback...wonder what his secret is?

Will have to also check that work's contribution will still happen with an eBay purchase since it looks like he does all his sales that way - I think if it's new it should be fine, but I'd be annoyed if I saved £100 and then missed out on more than that because it's eBay. Thanks for the link though!

There are

And all above board too. But i wouldnt like to shout about it on a forum :D.

eBay is just a marketing ploy. He's happy (happier even) to sell direct. A proper invoice & all.

A pm on the better one would be nice. Fabiamkii... ;-)

Well its not exactly a trade secret. Its more knowing the right people n taking advantage of benefits. Calling in a few favours, that sort of thing.

I bought mine from an official Apple reseller on Gibraltar more than two years ago. Went for a top of the range (well then it was) 15" Retina with 16GB Ram and 512GB SSD and paid at least 20% less than the UK price. All registered in the UK with Apple, now with added Applecare with no issues at all. Full UK product, with full EU warranty, just like buying here.

The current base 13" Retina MBP is £899 on Gib (£999 from Apple UK) and the top of the range 15" with 2.50GHz quad-core Intel Core i7 | 16GB | 512GB | Intel Iris Pro + M370X 2GB is £1689 (£1999 from Apple UK)
