Fixed servicing **** up

Featured Replies

Got invited a couple of weeks ago by the dealer to make an appointment for my first service.

I asked for, and was under the impression, my car was on a Fixed Servicing Plan (and have done 10,300 this 1st year).

I just did a quick check of the sticker on the Service Plan booklet before I set off this morning and noticed the code was for Flexible.

I highlighted this to the lady on arrival at service and she then confirmed it was. I asked if they could service it anyway and switch the plan. A mechanic was stood behind her and didn't seem to think it would be a problem.

I've just been telephoned by the lady to say 'they' won't authorise it. I need to come in and pick up my car and drive it for another year or 20,000 miles.

So not only did they ring me, email me and write to me to encourage me to book in, I've also wasted half a day and £10 on insuring their loan car. I'm also not going to get the car serviced which is what I wanted!

Where do I stand? I am not too happy tbh!

Demand they service the car, reset the service indicator to fixed and refund your £10!

Simples.

Who is "they"?

The first service is just an oil change anyway so, to make up for their mistake, I'd ask for them to do it.

Its 30gbp of oil and half an hours labour.

Plus, switching to a "fixed" plan would be better for them because you will go each year instead of after 2-years on the variable plan (2-years or 30,000km).

That is assuming that you pay for the services.

Are you on the free servicing deal with the PCP? If you are, that is specifically for fixed (10k) services and you should have had a letter from Skoda finance advising you the same.

+1 on this - they cant refuse to service a car their company made if that's what you want. Also they shouldn't refuse to switch over your service plan if that is what you want - unless it is expressly written that you are not allowed to change.

One other thing - go back through your original purchase documentation and check exactly what service plan you bought - just to eliminate human error.

Of the 3 Octavia's I've owned, they all had long life oil with variable service showing in the handbook. With the 1st car I noticed it was set to fixed. I had this changed within days. My current Vrs has free 3 years servicing, so was set to fixed. Also the loan car was totally free including insurance. Just fuel to put in as needed.

I had exactly the same with my 3 year service plan, even though at the time I took it out I insisted on fixed servicing. They would not change it to fixed. Ended up cancelling and getting a refund as it was mis sold.

In hindsight I wouldn't have bothered with the plan, leaving the car on variable and do interim oil changes myself.

Well the dealer has told me that they are unable (not allowed) to change the plan as it is part of the PCP deal I have signed up to. I did tell the salesman prior to buying the car, that to be safe, my annual mileage would be 12K, but this was to avoid a warped GMFV if we decided to return the vehicle.

I asked for a Fixed Plan with the first salesman but he was relieved of his duties half way through the process. I asked the subsequent salesman if I even had to have the plan and he said yes as it was part of the 'free' sevicing deal last year. Although weirdly I have a separate direct debit for just short of £10 each month.

So. The dealer said he could service my car now (and they would pay for it) if I really wanted. It would then be serviced by them at 20K of 2 years (paid for by VWFS).

Or he said if I thought I was to keep the car (or at least buy it), then he would service it for free at the end of the 3 years and switch it to Fixed.

Not sure if I have got a great deal or not?

I'm still ****ed off the badgered me by phone, email and letter to come in for its first year service when, as the dealer claims, it doesn't need one!

My car looks to be set to fixed instead of variable as requested. The dealer and Skoda Customer Services have told me that I can only change this setting when the service light comes on. How did you have it changed, 'within days'?

I accidentally reset my previous Yeti to fixed rather than variable when playing around with the computer.

The mechanic at my dealer merely reset it to variable next time I was passing the Garage. Simples..

So the salesman told you it was free and you are paying £10 a month for servicing?

Jeez - that sounds a little bit like fraud to me ......

£10 a month basically pays for a service every year doesn't it? What else does the service plan cover?

I simply rang them up to mention the error in the setting. They said to call in. So I did. That's a sign of a good dealer. Derek Slacks Teesside

Got invited ? What did the Maxidot inform you before.

The Maxidot in my Yeti was set incorrectly. The car is on flexible service according to the manual. The oil service indicator showed 1000 miles while the inspection service showed 11,000 miles. The dealer reset the oil to 11,000.

That aside as the car has chain drive cams I have carried out an interim oil change at 9500 miles. Peace of mind.

Anyone else's dealer change the service schedule as easily as this?

Steve

I rang dealer and asked if I could get the car changed to fixed when it got to the first 10k. Yeh no problems and all done on the visit.

Yeah my dealer says he can't change it as they (the finance) says he can't. He did offer to service it FOC though if I really wanted.

I'm going to phone Skoda for full clarification on this and the fact I had to have it in the first place!

Seems strange? The "free servicing" deal, was 3 years free or 30'000 miles, whichever come first @a service every 10k or 12 months.

Mine came on variable they said "as you expect to do around 16k a year it makes sense"??

So after clocking 10k in 6 months I rang and said could I get it serviced now, at 10k and put on fixed.

I cant see what difference it would make to Skoda finance?

It sounds like @airscool has purchased a Service plan for variable servicing to me without realising it (or rather by being 'misled').

@airscool, have you tried registering on the Skoda finance website and looking at your agreements online - what does it say you have got?
