Xavier,

They are cracking prices...

We were looking at some lcd's today trying to decide if the blurry nature was the feed or being to close...you could certainly tell the difference with some of the sets. The panasonics, sony's and samsungs looked cracking with the sony and pana leading imho, but the samsung looked good frame wise. However thats the black, which the V's listed there seem to share :D

How longs the offer open for Xavier?

oh are they Hd ready 720 or 1080 or just compliant as some we saw today.

I take it (novice mode) that hd is not possible in crt's?

Agreed' date='

All the course material and video clips during last weeks training course in London were projected using an LCD projector mounted on the ceiling. Picture was perfect and very clear, and that was in normal daylight. Even with bright sunlight the picture was fine.[/quote']

Double agreed

My classrooms have ceiling mount Toshiba LCD's and we never have complaints about presentations etc. They really have come a long way in recent years, the rooms are big with lot's of natural light to, picture quality is spot on.

I think our Tosh's where the thin end of

Colin, they're "HD ready" in the sense that they all have HDMI (or DVI with converter) input. Their resolution is 1366 x 768 pixels, so 720p material will fit natively, whereas any 1080 material will be slightly remapped to fit on the screen.

Remember that all plasmas and LCDs are progressive. So although I prefer 1080, that's an interlaced picture and not progressive.

In the broadcast industry, there have been many disputes and wars over which standard is of "higher quality". Personally, I prefer 1080i because it is a more "detailed" picture, albeit more "jerky" than 720p.

At work, I've finished building an OB which is entirely HD and 1080i on that looks just stunning.

Of course, it's all very nice having HD-produced material. Need to wait for Sky to go HD in transmission before then end user reaps the benefits.

HDMI will be handy if you want to invest in a nice DVD player. There won't be any analogue "noise" in the signal path so it produces cleaner, sharper and more accurate pictures than RGB, YUV, Y/C or C

JMTPW.

Oh yeah, the prices, not bad are they? :D Valid without a time limit normally, may even go down in the next month or two. However, I'd hurry up if you want one because at those prices, people at work will be ordering and things will get busy come Crimbo.

youve clearly been watching some old projectors....:D

Ooops! I stand corrected! Yes the projector we have in the office is prob 3 yrs old now so i guess it's behind the times! >

Xavier, what CRT's can you recommend, same criteria...well about 32" anyway :D

100hz, hd, digital generators?

Hmm, for CRTs, no real choice anymore :(

Only 32 incher is the KD-32DC11 at

I doubt you'll find any consumer HD-ready CRT TV. All consumer TVs use standard 625line tubes / electron guns.

On the other hand, I could source you the best HD-ready CRT money can buy. It'll blow away any LCD or plasma. Looks jawdroppingly gorgeous.

Only problem is the price tag ;)

Just reading a report on some in the US...think it's a tosh.

google finds some samsung 32" hd's apprantly...oh it's all a might confusing.

Ok so no crt's that sucks as the flat 100hz stuff looked way better for normal telly today :(

Found this PDF off the Sony website which explains technically everything about LCD vs Plasma, HDTV, etc. Excuse the marketing twist to it all :o:rolleyes:

If we are talking High Definition, Big Screens, Sony and a sensible budget what about the new Sony KDFE50A12U 3LCD set. Only just released in the UK but been out in the USA a few months.

The 50" version comes with a free stand at the moment. Full price is

I was looking at flat panel TVs. My impression was that unless you have HDTV (not available yet) the picture quality on even the best LCD or Plasma sucks compared with my CRT TV (Samsung). Was travelling through Heathrow a couple of weeks back and they had a large Plasma TV in the departure area. The picture (Sky Digital) looked like the sort of quality video you get from a digital stills camera!

Went along to Currys and only the flat sets connected to a preview of HDTV impressed me. So unless you are desperate for HD I would pay

Stepfather just bought 43" HD ready Pioneer.About

i have seen those pics somewhere before !!!!!

AV Forums or Scoobynet? :D

Cheers

Lee

Having recently bought a good quality 37" plasma I cannot agree with some of the comments so far. LCD is (at present) much poorer quality, unless you stick with the small screen sizes, or pay twice the cost of the equivalent plasma. However I couldn't have bought a 42" plasma as my lounge isn't big enough and I'd have been sitting so close it would have looked grainy. Yes I know HDTV is coming but personally I'd spend

ah avforums it was then :D

looks very good but i aint so sure about projection tv's

Just go and demo everything but make sure they are set up correctly with a good feed.

Sony are pulling out of the Plasma and CRT markets and will be pushing LCD, 3LCD and the new SXRD tecnology.

Don't judge the 3LCD high definition rear pro's if you have only ever seen CRT rear pro or LCD rear pro. The advance in tecnology, the move to high def and auto iris function means high contrast ratio, vibrant colours and dark blacks. May not rival a direct view CRT but is certainly a rival for Plasma, direct view LCD or DLP.

If you are buying now you would be daft not to buy a HD ready set. Broadcasting will start next year, Blu-Ray and HD-DVD will be out early next year. The new X-Box 360 and PS3 will be hi-def.

Even current DVD players like the Toshiba 350 will upscale DVD to 720P via HDMI and all for

Dell do pretty cheap LCD tellys.. (hdtv ready too - for your xbox 360 ;) )

mind you.. your tft monster is hdtv ready too

I've recently had personal experience with Dell LCD TV's and the picture is fine, but they lack the ability to be programmed properly (the one I had would only auto-scan the channels and you couldn't select which channel goes with which number).

Sky etc...sorry don't have sky or ntl...just good old freeview.

Spend far more time in front of the computer than the telly, so I'm not after the greatest latest, but hd did make sense, although only for the x360, which I have not got on order so not really any presing need for it...

Kind of leaning on the crt in the corner (was fine 12 months ago type of logic), although Xaviers prices are kind of tempting...dvd's are all I really care about. Besides if I can save 500 quid then I can finish of my terrabyte storage box, comissioned about 10 mins before the telly stopped working :D

Xbox 360 is hdtv and is here on 2nd december anyone buying non HDTV now is crackers... its gonna be a bin liner in sub 2yrs...

buying a 625 line screen now is like buying betamax.. or analogue mobile.. etc...
