What did you do to your bike today?

Oh and just to show my age even further I had to Google Voldermort to WTF you are on about.  Doesn't say what sort of bike he rides but I believe I can guess.

  • Put the wet weather kit on and went and did my Advanced Test.... and passed

  • You're right, I've just undone one and the lip on the pipe extrudes out of the block so it's pressing against that.

  • Finished! That's 2016 done.

A shiny one.....

Yeah but that was when men were men and sheep were nervous! :D

I recall four of us going to the 500 GP as it was in them days at Silverstone. We stayed somewhere the Saturday night and rode to the Hotel in pouring rain for about 3 hours or more. When we got there we were told there was a wedding reception on but we could help ourselves to the food. This was as all four of us stood there in our gear dripping on the carpet. Very soon there was a lake where we stood! Oh and ALL of my dry stuff strapped to the bike was sodden as I had put a plastic sheet over the top of it to protect it from the rain but never thought about the water getting drawn up from the road.

Happy days!

My wife still puts up with it now. Walk in from a soggy ride home, water everywhere in the house. She literally follows me with a mop.

Put it in rain mode

Beating you about the head with it?

I think when you 'have' to ride in the rain it makes you a far better rider.  It also makes you blank it out.  I used to ride to work in it and find myself singing away quite merrily as I rode and quite happy.  Good gear makes all the difference but sometime it matters not how good it is there are those bits that are going to get wet!

It has been throwing it down here for the last 2 - 3 hours and there is no way I would think Oh good lets get the bike out and go for a ride because I am not barking.  If I was out in it though it would make very little difference to the way I ride or indeed the speed as I am quite happy with my confidence/skill level in those conditions.  Riding day in day out in all weathers has taught me that plus it has taught me not to worry about keeping 12 grand plus of bike wrapped up in cotton wool in case it gets cold or mucky.  Bikes are for riding and if I wanted an ornament to keep clean and shiny I would not pay that sort of price for one!

Not sure JK Rowling ever officially published that bit.

But i have heard that its a Street Triple R and its the best bike in the world. And the big V gets upset if anybody says otherwise...

I 'liked' that the first time but not too sure about the repeat!

Haa. Sorry. Signals abit crap. Phone likes to do things twice :D

You're not far off fella, bit lower down is,where I normally get hit !!!

When it was REALLY cold, the wet snow froze on all forward-facing parts and sealed up all the draughts, leaving you surprisingly warm ( it was all relative )

But then it was a lot colder in the olden times:

1963 Dragon Rally

“None had conquered the Horseshoe Pass - some adventurous types had set out to try, but were stopped by drifts and the R.A~C 's alternative route through Corwen and Cerrigy druidion was relatively trouble free.”

Have been to Horseshoe Pass a few times in the last couple of years on SV650 rideouts, but it's not as I remember it!

Where's all the snow?

Riding Maicoletta scooters a pal and I went up the pass as it seemed the most direct route. We saw car roofs above the snow and then just radio aerials.

Eventually the only tracks were the trials sidecar in John Ebbrell's article so we followed them. When we reached the point where he turned round (he had more sense than us) we did another 20 yards and then had to turn back ourselves because the snow was above the telegraph poles and we would have no idea where we were.

When we got to the crossroads at the northern end after a long detour we realised we couldn't have got down anyway - the Horseshoe road was a solid wall of snow about 12 feet high!

Happy days, although the night wasn't - my 'patch' had a frozen molehill in the middle of it. Never been so cold and uncomfortable - until the Elephant Rally where I walked round the Nurburgring to keep warm.

That's great !!! Love the story, proper adventure.

Its all about the gear. Since I bought my rukka gear I've not had one drop of water leak in. Bone dry head to foot.

This is what I was riding.  Bought it brand new as I couldn't afford a decent car at that time.

Oh that brings back memories! A 250 Dream, if I'm not mistaken?

Went to the IOM TT on mine. Rode all the way from Herts to Liverpool in torrential rain. Had one of those new fangled Dunlop one piece waterproof, my @rse, suits on.

Sat on the ferry wringing the water out of that and pouring a half pint out of each boot. Shame it was only water!

Ah! those were the days :rain:  :notme:

It was the 400 and I changed it for a brand new CX500 about a year later.  That would be 1979 and I moved back to Gainsborough some 10 years later and the Dream was parked up in the garage of the house next door to our new home!  It wasn't being used and was in a bit of a state.  Probably should have bought it off them and done it up.

I traded the 250 for a new 400 super dream after a couple of years.

I rode that home from the dealers in a bloody hail storm!

I can still remember the reg numbers of both.

even when i was learning in 2009/2010, i nearly had one of these!

i ended up going for a 2005 CG.. and loves it. ive never pushed a bike so much to this day. i put michelin Sporty tyres on, and had a good giggle. I got in a tangle with an Octy mk1 1.9PD on the Cat and Fiddle once.. we were both absolutly caning it. i got into macclesfield and pulled over (after id got past the guy..just...) and the bloke shook my hand n asked if it was actually a 125. nice bloke tbf.. used to ride apparently.

it was.. and id only pulled over because my brakes were so shot they were pretty much non existent.

i havent been able to push anything (other than a car) to that level since.

but i dont think ill get the same thrill on it now.. hmm...

Any how, back on topic..... Today I have mostly been fitting my SW Motach engine bars in case I drop the old gal, the Optimate lead and Wunderwotsit rear hugger. Also put the Datatag labels on the tank and frame.

That's a quality tale that I can properly relate to. I had no fear during my super dream days, properly pushing it every time I rode it. Used to take mates out on the back to the pub. A good few years before your cg days though mate lol
