  • Put the wet weather kit on and went and did my Advanced Test.... and passed

  • You're right, I've just undone one and the lip on the pipe extrudes out of the block so it's pressing against that.

  • Finished! That's 2016 done.

That does look really smart. If it had an extra 10-15 BHP I'd be tempted by one.

Anyway, I've sold my Vespa so need a new toy.

Ripped out the sh1te HID kit!

That was the 2nd replacement from the same supplier.

The kit I bought, cut out completely for a second when switching from dip to main beam. That would have been fun down a dark road.

They sent a modified unit. That failed to ignite 1 in 10 times.

The next one was even worse. In fact it was the reverse of the previous one, only igniting 1 in 20 times.

They've agreed to a full refund though, so not out of pocket.

Anybody got any recommendations for a replacement that will actually work as it should and not break the bank?

Is it a H4 fitment?

I had them in an SV650s for a short while. They too failed to ignite quite often and high beam was useless. I don't know what it is but they've never worked properly in bikes however the same kit worked faultlessly in a mates car.

I dont bother with them anymore. I found a relay kit made the biggest improvement on the SV

It is indeed H4

When kit 2 worked, it worked great, but ....

I wouldnt touch h4 HIDS again tbh.

Has it got relays do you know?

It didn't, but doesn't matter now as I sent the whole lot back.

I've seen the relay harnesses on flea bay. Not quite sure what they do or why they're needed.

I've also seen some kits that wire directly to the battery and use relays.

Same thing?

Sorry, i should of explained clearer.

The SV used wired in the loom (only small ones, too small) through the switch then to the headlights.

I got an Eastern Beaver Relay Kit which goes directly to the battery, via relays to the headlights, using the bikes existing H4 plug just for signal, no power.

This gave me about 50% more light out of the halogen bulbs. It was great.

Some bikes (my VFR does) already has a relay built in and all the right sized wiring, so wouldnt benefit from a kit like that.

It depends on the bike. If you turn your ignition on but leave the engine off, switch the lights on and flick between low and high beam. If its got a relay, you should hear a little click as it changes.

It must have a relay, as I do hear the click. I've tried an Osram night breaker and that is better than a normal bulb.

I'm going to stick with that for now.

On the other hand, I could just trade the bike in for the '16 NC which has OE led headlight.

In that case, a relay kit wouldn't make much difference :D

I've got those in mine, they do make it better don't they.

In that case, bad output is probably down to bad headlight design tbf.

LED might not be any better.

The new VFR is getting complaints on the headlights. The leds are too focused on one point and not spread enough on high beam.

The reflectors on the Vtec is better apparently (i haven't tried the LED ones personally). They have 2 big reflectors for dip, and 2 more above those for high. For a bike headlight, they're pretty damn brilliant tbh.

So after much excitement I got my VFR back today, it sounds so much better with the new exhausts.

The quality of the craftsmanship and attention to detail is cracking. It sounds really nice on tick over and with a few revs but the real test will be when the roads are dry and I get to go out!

What are your thoughts?

Took mine in for an MOT, it failed!!!  my bloody exhaust is "not for road use" (VOSA speak) so I have to put a standard one back on? then drive home and back to the garage to have the old one re-fitted, A whole load of faf if you ask me.

The Vespa has gone. Now to buy something new.

Oh dear!

Nore is mine, but ive been lucky so far.

Looks like you were unlucky enough to get picked up on it :(.

Quill cans. Lovely.

They've always been very well made and sound sweet.

Should sound good. The VFR V4 does sound a treat with a good can.

I'm still awaiting a video from Oli

Cheers.

Oli :D

Ordered some new tyres for it.  Gone for Bridgestones A40 in the end on recommendation of the Guy who runs the shop (used to work for him so trust him) and a mate who has them fitted to his TEX.  I am having them both done because I am changing tyre make even though the front would last a fair bit longer.

I am also going to buy a set of boots for me as well as mine are getting a bit past it.  Want something waterproof but not going to spend the earth on them.  Can get some reasonable stuff for sub £100 at the moment so that will do.  We don't do that many miles so it isn't like it used to be worn every day going to work and back in all weathers.

So a fair bit of expense this month but as we are at that point in the year when there is no Council tax for two months it will help considerably.

Had the fork seals done today, along with the springs. Went fot the Hyperpro progressive ones.

Seems niticeably stiffer. Dives alot less under braking.

Obviously havent tried them at a decent speed yet. Dont like taking the bike out when the roads are this dirty and loaded with grit.

Time will tell. I think it will be miles better though! 15 year old fork oil wouldnt help though i guess :D

Well yesterday I rode it for 100 plus miles and got it filthy.  Lovely warm day but the roads stayed wet all day.  Joined by three other RATS two on Tigers and one on a Speed Triple (no not him it was wet!) and we rode across the Humber Bridge to a cafe at a windmill called Sails and surprise surprise we had cake!  Rode back via another cafe and two had soup and I just had tea because I was so full of cake from earlier.

On arrival back home the Tiger was filthy.

Let it cooled down then a quick spray with the hosepipe and a bit of a rub down and thanks Mr All Year Biker and your ACF50 it was as good as new again.

Tomorrow it goes i for the tyres which I will have to put some miles on before I try them in earnest.  Cake me thinks!

Sounds like a good trip out Chris!

Enjoyed it?

I knew it wouldnt be 'him'. He rides a Street. Not man enough for a Speed :D.

Roll on summer i say :D.

I've had a spare hour between jobs, so washed mine off again. Concious of the grit even though i only nipped across town last week.
