  • Put the wet weather kit on and went and did my Advanced Test.... and passed

  • You're right, I've just undone one and the lip on the pipe extrudes out of the block so it's pressing against that.

  • Finished! That's 2016 done.

I couldn't tell you what colour they are tbh.. I had them powder-coated and they came back a different shade than what i asked for, but i quite liked them once they were on.. so i was happy without throwing my toys out of the pram  :D

I contacted my insurer today to notify them of the Quill exhaust cans which I am currently having fitted. I half expected an additional premium to be added to my policy but thankfully not. What did annoy me was they tried charging me £32 for the pleasure of telling them! Considering I only started this current policy with them 4 weeks ago I thought that was a bit of a joke, so I spoke to a manager that agreed to waver the cost! Happy days.

Hoping to have the bike back this weekend or middle of next week. Should have an update tomorrow. :)

Take the pee don't they. They try to tell you if costs £32 for somebody to input a modification and maybe forward a copy to your e-mail. :D

That was my point to him, I said that if my policy was changing/ increasing I could see that my policy had physically changed but it hasn't. I'm not trying to add value on to the policy. I also used the fact that I had been messed around and wasted 15/20 minutes on the phone whilst they found a supervisor for me to talk to!

They're all hard work.

Insurance is a complete free for all imo. Nobodys bothered about loyalty.. all they want is the most amount of money possible.

Fitted some Wunderlict rad guards today, so while I had the front side panels off I took the rest off and got the acf50 out. I also tried to find somewhere to mount a bullet cam but gave up in the end!

Got an excellent front paddock stand off ebay if anyone needs one themselves.

Nothing today, I have realised I'm down on riding buddies though, my brother is bike-less (although less of a liability) and my other mate is well under the thumb now, plus needs new for seals. He's a bit peeved I think, he bought a bike from a large dealer who was offering 'Lifetime Warranty' which was very dubious about at the time but he knows best. Roll on a year or so and very few miles put on the bike the fork seals are shot, shock horror they're not interested. I dont know what the average life span of a set of fork seals are but 5k or so is surely below expected?

In other news I've done nearly 15k on my bike now, well, not me the bike has. My old man now has a new enthusiasm for bikes again by the sounds of it, spent about £1000 getting his Bandit done up, more or less every consumable replaced I think lol. He's now on about a taking the bikes and just buggering off towards France for a week, stopping where we can along the way  :nerd:  Might have to reel him in a bit :D

hmm. I guess fork seals are a consumable? are they? Maybe its the time, not the mileage. Rubber degrades over time doesnt it. What bike is it?

Ah go for the France trip mate. Itll be brill. Im hoping to go abroad again this year. Not sure where to yet, will see what goes on. Defo dont plan on staying in the UK though.. its abit crap compared to abroad :D

Rain mode in the morning, Dynamic/unicycle mode on the way home.

Only glitch was braking hard for an Octy VRS estate that pulled out in front of me mid commute. Still, I got a good close look at the "Think Bike, Think Biker" sticker in his back window

****ing Skoda drivers. Theyre the worst.. honestly.

Yeah, youd think that sticker means something wouldn't you. It doesn't seem to though. I've seen quite a few cars with it on that clearly done use their mirrors at all.

It's a Fireblade, it'd done 1,000 miles when he bought it and he's done a few K on it. I'm not all that clued up on the ins and outs on bike parts but my CB is still on originals at 15k, if mine went now I'd not be too upset at that mileage. It could be an age thing too, but then the life of a set on my dads Bandit that suffer winter for 8 months a year and live outside their whole time vs a super bike thats tucked away in the garage for 8 months a year? Plus the Bandits have lasted longer! Either way, I'm still pretty dubious as to how useful this 'warranty' will be.

I've got a taste for Euro trips in the car, deffo want a bash on the bike, I just like a bit more of a plan though lol.

Its one of those things i think, like any seal.. They can last a year or last 20. My VFR's on 25k now and its just starting to weap abit. If i do decide im not spending a big chunk on a new one this year, ill get them done and probably upgrade the springs whilst im doing.

do it (: you wont regret it. France really isnt far haha. Plan your mileage per day carefully though, too much and it gets abit dragging on (700 mile a day was plenty for me. I was abit fed up at that tbh. 500 i think is a nice comfy amount) and too little n itll take too long to get anywhere.

Depends how you play it. Some people like to chill abit more n not do many miles aha.

I had a Blade and sold it with 10k on the clock. The fork seals were fine on mine. He could try Honda and ask what the average life expectancy was. Does he have some form of policy document with the inclusions and exclusions in it? If not then by definition it's included so someone like citizens advice might help. Other tban that take it to another dealer ask for a price and what caused it and threaten them with the small claims court.

When I did my Advanced course in the Police we were riding 300+ miles a day and to be honest that was plenty for me.  Obviously a bit more pressure than just bimbling about somewhere but I think the main thing is you do what is comfortable for you.  Even on the TEX I find I am suffering numb bum after a couple of hours and start fidgeting.  That is why we have to stop for cake!

We are hoping to put the panniers on this year and do a bit but even if we do it will be restricted to the UK.  I have no desire to go touring foreign parts on the bike when there are so many good roads and brilliant places here to do.  Riding around the Lake District is brilliant if the weather is good as is North Yorkshire.

Thought of an upgraded seat mate?

My dads GS seat was makinh him ache after a few hundred miles. He put a Sargeant seat on it n now just rides till wherever hes going. 1000 mile days or whatever, reckons its still comfy.

Yeah looked at the options but mine is supposed to be the comfort seat.  It is heated although I have never switched it on.  If you look on the TEX Forum there is a lot of discussion on seats but most of it is from lardy arsed Yanks who shouldn't really need any extra padding but do.....go figure as they would say.

I think rather than spend 100s of pounds on a different seat that may or may not be any better because you will never know until you have tried it for hours I would just as soon have a rest and a brew regularly.  Age has something to do with that as it usually coincides with 'needing' to stop anyway!

You can sometimes pick up a used bargain on ebay though.

If you dont like it.. Shift it on for no loss or maybe a profit if you buy at the right price (:

Fair enough, I just thought they'd last a bit longer.

I know France isnt far, but I do like to have a idea how far to get each day, he wants to just ride off and try and stop wherever we feel like. I think he needs to decide where he wants to go and over how many days then leave me to plan it all out.

He just has a 'certificate' which just has the Make/Model/Reg and 'Life time Warranty' on it. They're a massive main dealer for loads of Makes, if it were me, I'd have gone to the local dealer (the place he bought it from is miles away) and ask as you say, roughly how many miles they should last then if they say 15/20/30k or whatever go back to them. I understand wear and tear, if the pads needed doing then I know they're a consumable and they'll not replace them (unless pointed out as a condition of sale) but after them banging on about how he can return the bike and they'll put it right and paying the inflated price for it, they then turn round and refuse the first issue within a year of buying and 5k.

The way he's talking he's still planning to take it back each year for it's service too! :D

You could just ride and see where you get to tbf. If you take a tent, sleeping bag etc etc youd never be stuck really.

But maybe peace of mind for a first trip would be nice

Can't remember where I left the Forza, but this is where we are today after changing the front mudguard
