What did you do to your bike today?

Featured Replies

It's a good idea and its not half as intrusive as id expected such a system to be on a bike.

Does it record in cycles then? sort of like a dashcam on a car?

Yes it does Ollie. There's a selection button to do loop recording in 3 minute segments and once the 32gb card I've put in it is full it just should overwrite it. When connected to the external power supply it switches on and off automatically so I can't forget, nor is it obvious I've got a camera onboard like the drift or a gopro. I'm guessing the quality won't be as good but there again it didn't cost over £200 so hopefully the tea leaves will not bother with it either as only the lens is on view.

Sounds like just the ticket to me.

Yeah the theft thing did cross my mind. It blends in so well they might not even see it or know what it is. Fingers crossed!

Here's a boring bit from today's ride. Youtube has compressed it to death but you'll get an idea of what a similar one will show attached to your bike, though as it's not central on the bike it looks like I'm further over to the right than I actually am

Im impressed. Thats plenty good enough quality isnt it.

Nice one!

Yeah, it's not vlog quality or good enough for the gopro w4nk3r brigade but plenty good enough to provide a record of events should I ever need it. No doubt the other 2 will be along shortly to take the **** out of my old man riding...

Who's that then Ade?  Let me know and we will get them for you! :D

Littleade, do you have the details of were you got the camera from? At that price it would be silly not to fit one.

I was sure I got it off Amazon, but looking back through my orders it's not there, nor is it in my eBay purchase history either so I must have got it direct from somewhere but I can't find any record at the moment on my computer.

It's a Innovv c3 and Techmoan did a review on it here

Their website is here

It didn't come with any micro SD card but they're relatively cheap now plus as above I got a motorcycle USB power supply off Amazon because I wanted something that would be semi permanent without having to start chopping into my bikes electrical system. It's about the size of a matchbox and had a sticky fixing pad that I've stuck inside the front fairing so I can see when it's on. As I said I made a lead up using this and one supplied with the camera but you could use one of these instead which would fit the Innovv lead without any modifications as it has a standard USB socket on one end and Innovv's own version of a micro usb plug on the other that's unique to their camera by the looks of things as the charger I got below came with a micro usb plug but wouldn't fit.

If I can find a receipt for it I'll let you know where I got it from but I bought it around Christmas time and it's took me until now to get my bum in gear  :D

They seemed to have doubled in price now

Rode it. Took off over the brow of a hill. Crapped myself. Landed. Giggled. Did it again.

Having thoughts about a Triumph Tiger 1050 Sport for next year. Start going abroad again then with some luggage capacity and an acceptable tank range :D.

Can't believe you said that about the plumber and cakemeister.

Quick update on the bike cam.....I went out yesterday for a ride and when I got back and looked on the card a large part of the ride hadn't been recorded. I don't know if it's the camera, micro sd card or power supply that's causing the problem so I will need to find out as there's not much point in having it on if it isn't going to be reliable. I've changed the card for another so will see how that goes.....

Maybe you were just doing light speed and the frame rate couldnt keep up?

Yeah start simple. Sd card, connections etc etc. Hopefully its something easy (:

Cheers Ollie, yes if the card swap doesn't cure it next I'll fully charge the battery and use it without the power supply and go from there. Pity really as when i was out with the IAM on Sunday I had a 2 for 1 deal..... I got 2 Observers watching me :D On the way back after the assessed ride the National observer took the lead for a 'free ride' and did an overtake and coming back to his side of the road he crossed a solid white which would have been a test fail so the opportunity to take the p1ss has been somewhat watered down, but I'm hoping my Local Observer will step up the the p1ss taking plate next Sunday morning and tell him he failed!

Edit: sarky sod..light speed....yeah right just 'cause you're a hooligan  :peek:

ahaha. We all make mistakes.. its just funnier when its somebody like him! i hope he does get reminded.. its only fair ;). Shame there wasn't video evidence ;)

ahaha. I'm no hooligan. It's that bloody bike. I just hold onto it! I am having thoughts of selling it, although i love it and its an absolute hoot.. its not happy unless its at full throttle with the front wheel in the air. Which isn't good for my licence.

It does ensure you overtake fast enough to get in before the solid white line though ;):D :D

He's got a Yam tracer thingy of some description-I'll recommend the 'prilla to him :D

I have actually witnessed some appalling riding my a Senior member of the Lincoln IAM.  So much so that I commented on it to a couple of the other members about it then said I wouldn't be joining them as an instructor.  His riding was to my mind dangerous and he was the Senior Examiner!

It is the same as anything else though there are standards that should be adhered to and some people either will not or cannot do so.  I have to say that the guy I am talking about was not a Police trained rider and had he ridden like he did in front of me on a test he would have failed.  Apparently he is known for his 'style' of riding and comes up with an excuse for it which I consider to be lame in the extreme.

We all do make mistakes and maybe this was one of the Ade or maybe he doesn't consider the lines apply to him who knows.  Thing is you ride to your own teaching and standards and you won't go far wrong.

We might see an increase in lesson costs though.. as he's constantly shovelling the fuel in :D

Sounds appalling.

To me.. an overtake is either on or off.. if I'm in any hesitation that i 'might' not get back over in time or whatever, i just don't do it. Theres no in-between when it comes to stuff like that.. its either yes or no, no dithering.

And to be an instructor making mistakes like a new rider might isnt really what you want to see when you're being taught either is it.

Ade's could very well of been a one off though. I have overtaken and misjudged where the line changes :D. Sometimes i get confused with road markings. Sometimes theres a good straight with solid whites on that i'd be perfectly happy to take a car or two, then sometimes theres dashed lines before a blind dip or something and its just a no go.

Theres a particular small straight on Long Hill near me. It's mainly solid whites around the corners but theres this straight with a dashed section so short that (and i did try this) even on a VFR in 3rd gear ready for the take,  following a little hatch doing 30 in a 50.. i couldn't open up and get back in time. I do still wonder WTF that is there for.

To be fair all the guys they give their time for free and also the local branch do not ask for any money towards the observers fuel costs either though we do end up buying the tea and coffee and breakie if they're feeling peckish-one had a sausage and egg  and the other a bacon and egg muck muffin, to which they were welcome as I can't abide the crap ronald churns out!

Didn't realise they did it for free.

Thats very good of them.

As generous as i like to think i sometimes am.. i do think observing peoples riding for free would be past even my limitations. So they must really enjoy doing what they do and i suppose have comfy life style with the cash from previous works.

Oh.. mcmuffin though... im game. Where do i sign?

I think there will always be those who fit this category Chris, but to me (and the IAM) the number 1 priority is always safety and if I get marked down because of that for not making progress because I judge it unsafe to do so then so be it. I have to sharpen up my overtakes, though we haven't covered that yet during my 2 observed rides but as you know doing that while maintaining discipline and adhering to the posted speed limit on test is quite demanding and requires sound judgement. There's a difference in the culture between cars and bike sections within the IAM too as the bikers tend to be more 'a band of brothers' so ride out  together and meet up somewhere while the car section tend to be on a more individual basis from an associate/observer perspective and where full members will travel in the same car to a meeting/event, so the driver is responsible for his/her passengers rather than just their own ride, the responsibility of which affects how they drive  ;)

Didn't realise they did it for free.

It depends on the local branch as to how they approach this Ollie, some ask for a contribution, some don't. The downside is our branch only do sunday mornings so if you have usual commitments then you have to put them on hold/rearrange while the car section leave it between the associate and observer as to when they go out together.

They are a committed bunch-giving their time for nothing and running their bikes to do so is a big commitment.

To get the free muck duffin you need to be the observer Ollie though fortunately they don't go to the golden arches every week :D

Sounds appalling.

To me Ollie from an relatively inexperienced associates view he went for a marginal overtake that wasn't really on if the requirements were to obey the highway code and not cause other drivers to react to that overtake (He had to brake to get back in and I think the car subsequently braked too as well as crossing the solid when he returned to his side) Traffic was fairly heavy on a main trunk road and when we got back to Kidder he'd already disappeared so guess he executed more on the way back though I didn't see any of those so can't say whether they were appropriate or not. My Observer is sound and everything he has pointed out so far in my ride reports has been correct  roll on Sunday

Our local ones suggest you make a contribution to the fuel but don't insist.  I agree about them being quite a social bunch and in fact the mate of mine who assesses with them did a run out for associates this Sunday just gone.

Like I said there will be very good instructors and some not so good.  When I was instructing for the BMF one of my fellow instructors had been out with an IAM group and one of them told him he needed to sharpen up his overtaking.  He promptly rode off to lead and presumably show him how it should be done and took out a wheelie bin with his offside pannier! :D:notme:

As long as you are happy with your instructor Ade that is what matters.  For me I would never be happy with anyone that took me to a Muckdonalds!
