whats up with people????

Featured Replies

Funny you say that my wife just passed her test so I pinched her P plates just to have a bit of fun, the ammount of people that tried to put their foot down to get round me even on a 30 road was amazing, even more funny when I put down mine and left them stuck on the wrong side of the road :)

Maybe you should revisit your highway code ;)http://www.highwaycode.gov.uk/15.htm#144

I had some muppet business man in a merc up my rear bumper last nite, flashing his lights and getting closer and closer. MY Fab VRS was much quicker off the mark but he caught me up at every set of lights. When i let him past he stuck two fingers up at me and brake tested me! Why!!!!

Remap and rebadge - SDI goes down well :D

My fabia doesn't often get that sort of attention. But I have notice that some cars do not like being over taken and will but their full beams on once you have passed. Often these cars are doing 40-50 in a 70.

I would worry about it, your get noobs like that no matter what car you drive, some people just dont like being over taken.

being honest ive had it with every car ive driven. it never happened anymore with my old octy than it did with say my a4 or golf. there just seems to be people who dont like getting overtaken no matter what car your driving tbh :)

There's an article on this problem in the last issue of 'Car' magazine, he comments on how it's even worse when driving the BMW M5.

I have had a few:

I had a van driver in middle lane of the M1 @ 60mph who did not like the fact I joined the motorway straight to the middle lane while indicating to go round a truck - I could have done it in an Artic without any problems but it meant he felt the need to flash, finger and try to catch me up for 10 miles. When I left the motorway he appeared to be shaking a cocktail and testing his horn? :censored:

I had a 307cc lady driver who was so slow at roundabouts on the A1 I past her several times and put 1/2 a mile between us. Then she comes burning up and past at 90 only to do the same at the next roundabout. Thing is I don't think she even realised..

I actually smile when a van comes up to my rear and insists he can gain some time by driving though me to fill my safe gap to the next car infront. A nudge of the right foot always works.

Someone should invent a badge that revolves at the rear - say from 1.2 HTP to vRS ?

When I had my Corsa  I thought of having a dummy cctv camera pop up on the rear shelf - a tailgate cam, but that was because I had no power left to get out of the way

Get used to it mate. It's a Skoda thing. Since I got my Octy last weeks i've been cut up several times. One particularly irate Mondeo driver actually drove in front of me as I tried to overtake him on an uphill section of an A road. He did it for just long enough that I was faced with oncoming traffic. I passed him anyway with ease without even dropping out of 5th but it really pi**ed him off so when he eventually caught up he tailgated me all the way to the motorway where I quickly lost him as he couldn't keep up.

Get this though, my passenger took a good look at him as we slowed down to turn onto the motorway slip lane. Looked like mid fifties, a bit overweight and a dog collar. He was only a friggin' minister. No joke.

really have to disagree, people have done it to me and others ive been in the car no matter what im driving.

more to do with the individual idiot driver rather than the car ur driving to be honest

I am yet to get this kind of response as i have only just put a deposit down on my Octavia VRS.

Im suspecting there is Three reasons for it though.

One becuase your over taking in a Skoda and no one likes that!!!

Two because they are really annoyed that they cant afford a decent car

And three they havent got the sense to buy a Skoda in the first place.

Oh well, they will wake up one day and find out that skoda's are good cars.

I would like to point out for legal reasons that it wasn't me.

Don't tell me you've gone for the instant on-line ordination thing!

Reminds me of another post I read lately where someone suggested the wearing of a dog collar whilst driving and wondered if you would get away with a bit of cheeky driving. I think someone tried it.

Have you resprayed your mondeo ?

Best one is a yellow hi-vis jacket. Amazing how clear the road ahead becomes and how many people let you out at junctions :D And nope, not resprayed the Mondeo .... and I doubt you would have overtaken me either :P:rofl:

Chris

Some people just shouldn't be on the road, period. Others have off days or have just had an argument or are late for their wedding etc.

If someone accelerates whilst I'm overtaking, fine, play away but if I have to hit something it will be THEM, not the poor innocent coming the other way. The highway code is quite specific about what to do when overtaking and when being overtaken.

One thing that IS controversial is the advice if being tailgated - "Slow Down gently!". Ostensibly so that you can brake more gently for hazzards. I can't imagine it will improve the blood pressure of the average person in a hurry.

is that a challenge Mondeo boy? :D

I have read this thread with a smile because I reckon it isn't the badge but the way we often drive the VRS. It has great mid range grunt and we all know it. We all love to leave other cars 'for dead'. So who can say we don't 'encourage' the opportunity.

I haven't had bad reactions so far, but 'showing the cars potential' is bound to attract attention. :)

Ron

I used to get these kind of reactions in my 1.25 16V Fiesta, which was hardly a rocketship. Its probably a small car thing - most of the idiots who drive larger cars seem to think that they can bully their way past smaller cars (in a kind of I am richer and more important than you way) especially in the morning rush hour :thumbdwn: .

Now I have the Octavia I tend to get less of this behaviour except from tw@s in 4x4 offroaders (again the perceived richer than you ****** that these people seem to subscribe to) - however leaving them for dead when the speed limit changes from 30 to open is always a laugh

Oh yes indeed! New M25 experience last night - in lane 1 of 4 (all lanes moving smoothly but quite chokka), doing 50 with a [u']mandatory[/u] 50 on the overhead gantries (SW section). Jeep piles up behind me and decides to flash me because the road in front of me is clear for few hundred yards. Apqrt from ignore him (which I did!), what did he expect me to do? Undertake from the blind side of an artic lorry and earn 3 points at the next overhead camera (if not already crunched by lorry) or maybe pull over onto the hard shoulder.

jeeps own !!!

Well, must say I think its down to the style of driving tbh. And debadging definitely helps.

Recently I have been driving much more sensibly, to speed limits etc (since my little off road tour last Monday), and am yet to encouter a *****.

I've only got a PD100, but I have noticed that people do seem keen to try and get past as soon as possible.

Thankfully it pulls impressively in third so quite often it will push the average boy racer back behind, which they don't like :D

I've noticed this a lot with Mini Coopers, which I can usually beat between 25-50 :D

Corsa's and Citroen Saxo's are the worst. They assume that you will race them at every opportunity. I dont think so 'Gary' or is it 'Dwaine' Yes youre right about large saloons like Mercs and Bm's. They do 'bully' people to get out of the way on Motorways. I just ignore them

I find it mostly a UK problem, when I drive in Ireland, France, or Germany drivers are much more relaxed. Maybe the constant high UK traffic volumes make peole more aggressive. Then again it may just be the muppet culture endemic to those who favour German 'Executive' cars and 4x4's.
