Rear wiper motor removal - how to?

Featured Replies

Hi all

Is there a guide on here showing how to remove the rear wiper motor? I know i need to remove the wiper arm (which is stuck solid) but don't know how to remove the bootlid panel. There are no visible screws and i don't want to just yank it off, i'm sure after i get this off i'll know what to do but can anyone help me get to this point?

Cheers

Kevin

u just pull the boot panel its metal clips on it then rear motor the 3 torque screws and the water pipe along with harness to power it clipped in to it. steve

Wiper arm would benefit from having a puller - I invested in one (it was only about a fiver) when I started to dismantle the odd Octavia vRS - and it makes getting stuck arms off much easier,

Once off, the panel just pulls off, and then there are 3 10mm bolts attaching it to the lid.  Along with one electrical plug and the washer fluid connection.

That panel can be a pain the ass to refit.

Your better of with extra pair of hands.

Be careful because its got metal clips that slot into the panel.

Those clips will slide and even bend out of place if not aligned correctly. You will see what i mean.

I found it easier to tackle the wiper arm first dont take it completely off.leave it on 2or 3threads to give you leverage. I wrapped cloth round it stop any damage to glass.

I put some antiseize onto shaft of new motor.

Regarding the metal clips that slide in the slots in the panel : I found by measuring that their correct position is at the closed end of their slot. So I held them there with a bit of sticky tape across the slot.

Fitting the panel went quite smoothly. But I could just have been lucky!

If you use a puller, BEWARE !! on rear washer wiper arm..

FIRST remove push-in washer spray head by gently pulling it out of it's position, otherwise it will cost you £5.00 at Skoda to replace.

I used a puller (crushed washer spray head) in process but the wiper arm still refused to budge, so I used baby hacksaw to cut gently through alloy arm to centre spindle to then remove.

Got a replacement wiper arm & blade c/o E-bay about £10.00.

Alloy wiper arm welds/ corrodes itself to steel wiper spindle, strongly suggest use copper based grease before re-fitting.

NOTE: this corrosion also happens on the front windscreen wipers, but I was lucky, (no washer spray heads to crush) and applied copper-based grease before re-fitting.

Removal of tailgate inner panel, requires a stock of sticking plasters as I lost lots of skin from my fingers.LOL

The holding panel clips do an excellent job of making it almost impossible to release them from tailgate panel.

I used a second pair of hands to replace tail-gate panel, and nearly forgot to push the tailgate strap through tail-gate panel before re-fitting..

Cheers for the advice guys, i managed to get it this morning after reading this thread.

The wiper arm snapped last night when i pulled it a bit hard but it didn't matter as i was removing to remove the motor and replace with a blanking plug.

Anyway, this morning i used a dremel to cut a notch in the wiper arm and it pulled off the spindle with some pliers. The panel pulled off easily and after removing the motor it was put back on easily. I followed the advice of sliding the clips to the end of their seats and after lining up the two i could see they all popped in easily.

Thanks again, it turned out to be a doddle with the right technique.

Did you seal the hole with a grommet? I did but had condensation issues until I siliconed around the inside of it

Grommet fitted and sillcone sealed already just as a precaution
