Vrs tsi drivers how does it fair against other hot hatches?

Featured Replies

Just interested to see if any other tsi 220 drivers on here have managed to have a little play with other hot hatches vxr's, megane sports, focus clios etc and how did the car do? I'm not talking hideous speeds round blind bends he who dares wins racing. Just maybe long stretch of A roads etc and maybe motorway slip rds etc! Would be interested to see where it stands in the real world!

I used to be an area car driver for Sussex Police... Ive bought a vrs mk1, 2 and 3, in turn.... nuff said.... I don't bother with hot hatches any more, more like boxsters / caymans, the new jags, that sort of kit.... had a spirited drive against a Bathurst last year near Brecon and he concluded the RS was worth the money....

I don't know about hot hatches, but I have been on spirited drives out with friends that have reasonable cars like z4 3.0 coupe, z4m and a track prepped MR2 Roadster turbo and it held its own well, attracting some comments of surprise and decent compliments. We toured some very satisfying roads.

Wouldn't keep up in the corners

Good enough although I guess it's more a sleeper type than an outlandish hot hatch.

It's certainly comparable around a track to the likes of the VW Golf GTI, this has been proven on a fair few reviews.

It can cover ground at good pace and stop very well and I'm sure in the right hands could prove agile enough, however to me it has to be everything I could need in a car, fast, agile, corner well and stop well - plus carry five in comfort and the kitchen sink - like I say, in all things it has to do everything well - I think it does  :D  :D

10.05 in 2010 round the ring in my mk2 from a standing start... and I drove the family there in the first place.....

Couldn't agree more, this was not a post to say the vrs is a world beater that can match rs3's etc by no means. My whole point is I can take the family out and carry all the gear in the boot yet I can have fun and give decent hot hatches a play on my way to work! All round car, I'm sure I'll be told a "twin charger" will smoke me anytime though :) some questions are misleading!

Vrs tdi here: not fussed by what others on the road who can afford a better quicker car than me, flat out in sport in my vrs tdi accelerating through the gears down the duel carrigeway is awesome! FACT!

Tell how fast mine is: it will make me lose my driving licence in about ten seconds flat!

Would have thought it would be quicker than that. I did under 10mins in a mk3 diesel ibiza!

depends on traffic and weather confitions though ;)

Didn't some guy do under ten in a stripped out diesel AX? Now that's commitment!

commitment or insane.......it's a fine line!!!

of topic but I've watched a few youtube clips of people having far too much commitment and not enough skill/respect for the "ring", ending in a very expensive lesson learnt.

Dunno about a twin-charger, but a chipped and lowered 1.8T Scout should give you a run for your money?

Who would anyone Buy and lower a Scout?

Who would anyone Buy and lower a Scout?

Probably those markets that cannot get the 1.8Tsi 4x4 (like the UK)

Oh wait!.... we can't get the 1.8 Tsi Scout either

Dunno cant help you there  :D

It will lose big time compared to a Yeti!!!

Ok, only a certain Yeti which is slightly tuned.............

1.8t scout is available in Australia.

So skoda will make a small run of RHD 1.8 models for our market but not the uk?

Skoda have sold only 2352 vehicles YTD (all types ) here but the brand gets good reviews and is starting to gain traction (and not just because of the 4wd options :) )

Even worse than that they supply them in RHD just across the water in Ireland both the scout, the regular 4x4, and the 2wd still does not mean S.UK will sell them here, doesn't look like that will change anytime soon.

(OK we can get the 2wd 1.8T in L&K but that is only if you like a brown dash!)

Always thought the 1.8Tsi 4x4 was a good sleeper

To make them in RHD and not sell them in all the RHD markets seems a bit daft to me even if they don't sell many........ but what do I know, they are probably being trod on by Audi or something

We have the 1.8TSI 4x4 wagon plus the 1.8 TSI Scout in New Zealand.

From personal experience the 1.8 TSI 4x4 wagon is a lovely car to drive.  I've had mine for just over nine months and still enjoy hopping in every day.

Has anyone spotted the original topic...? :D  I saw it a while ago, but I think its hiding somewhere....

Thought the original question was answered ie on-road performance is comparable to the best but the Octavia is also infinitely more practical.

So naturally thoughts then drift towards what would be as practical and yet perform better.
