Excessive front tyre wear Octavia VRS 2.0 TSI 2014 model

Featured Replies

I'm not keen on the feel through the steering, a bit vauge & no confidence at best.

thats just a modern car trait in General no? Just like throttle response is a thing of the past it seems.

  • If they were Conti SC2's on the front then 9k is about right.   Next time try Goodyear Eagle F1 AS2's - they are highly recommended for wet and dry grip, noise and wear rate. And they have a decent

  • My last 2 petrol Vrs got new fronts every 9000-9500 miles and my brothers tsi vrs is the same, all tyres worn evenly with no issues. My current mk3 tsi got new tyres all round at 3000 miles as the pir

Anybody rate the Mitch PS3's ? Costco have my 225/45R17 for £88 a corner all in although, it has to be said the original Primacy HP's are still good at nearly 15K but, I'm not keen on the feel through the steering, a bit vauge & no confidence at best.

I've driven on PS3 - a lot of my mates have them.  They are a step up from the Primacy HP (which i had on my Octy for 70,000km).  You'll won't get quite the same mileage as the primacy HP - maybe 70-80% depending on your driving style.

I think they are a good tyre - on par with the GY F1A2 and better than the Conti CSC5.

Some interesting comments on the Potenza S001.

I haven't driven on them but down here they are rated as a good tyre.  I have / currently drive on Potenza RE050A.  They need some heat in them to perform their best & I wonder if the S001 has the same need for heat and UK ambient / tarmac temperatures aren't quite in the ideal range?

Stoski, if you want throttle responce just a DTUK Pedalbox although, some of the settings are insane !

Same tyres on mine and it understeers And wheelspins in the wet all too easily.

Can't wait for them to wear out.

Agreed, under-steers terribly on the Potenza's (probably can't all be blamed on the rubber)

I had Bridgestone Potenzas on my old Astra GTC they were fantastic tyres but at £250 a pop (£300 from the dealer) they were too expensive to justify not when there are tyres £100 cheaper that do as good a job.

Then again those tyres were standard fit on a Ferrari 458 Italia so probably prices for then and not vauxhall...

Sorry they were S001's too.

And in response to the heat comment, yes they did get noticeably stickier after being heated but were also very good normally.

I've just changed my front tyres and thought it was not long since I did, so I checked my receipts. Near exactly 1 year, just over 9k miles. Avon ZV7's, 225/40/R17's ran at 32psi. Paid £156 for 2 tyres fitted, 70 db with good dry and excellent wet handling, apart from out of junctions (why not have a LSD standard in a sports model with that amount of torque?). Getting the same tyres on again at the same price, I cant fault their performance. No excessive outside or inside wear, nearly think they were slightly over inflated but the car drives well at that. The car is lowered on Eibach springs and Autec light weight wheels fitted, I don't usually hang about on the road.

Don't sound to bad TBH I just got 8-1/2k outta my fronts & I don't hang around either only difference was mine cost 340 for a pair but, they are 235 R19's on mine

120 miles per £, if you really want to be anal about it lol. They give great performance for the price, plus I wont be gutted if a puncture means I have to replace one.
