Has anyone looked at or actually updated the maps on their Amundsen+ Navigation Units? Mine is fitted in a Monte Carlo Tech where the unit is standard fit.

 

I've asked the dealer about the latest maps (V7 I believe) and they are £176 + VAT apparently!

 

However I've found a seller in Germany advertising V6 maps on a pucker VW Navigation SD Card AZ V 6 2014 / 2015 brand new, boxed and sealed foil! Volkswagen Genuine Accessories for VW RNS 315,
Seat Media System 2.1 + 2.2 & Skoda RNS Amundsen +

The EA Part Number: 3AA 919 866 matches the Navigation Part Number on my unit 3AA919866.

It's 2 versions newer than my currents maps so is it worth a punt for £70 inc. p&p.

The sat nav you have is a re branded rns 315. The maps all load the same. I belive it's the firm ware that looks at the load up screen and what colour your menus are. So it'll be fine. Coincidently I've order the same one off eBay mines v4 so a jump for v6 should help should be here this week I'll post back when I've done it.

Can't believe dealers have the nerve to charge so much for sat nav updates, disgraceful. Have you got a link to the seller?

I thought the techs had the RNS 310 and the 315 units were the DAB ones?

Is there a way of checking which version map you have on the Amundsen unit?

There are different versions of the rns 315. Some have dab some don't and some have blutooth built in and some don't. I know you can press the screen on start up for a hidden menu. Can't remember exactly how I looked on you tube last time to check what you have.

Always wondered if that would be possible with the Amundsen. Is yours an "Amundsen" or "Amundsen+"? As I was looking to update mine (just says Amundsen on the top) and have no idea whether it's 310 or 315.

Mines a vw rns315. If you Google an image it looks totally different from the 310

Look at the Owners instruction Manual, mine state Amundsen + on it.

If it's a Tech you have then it's an Amundsen+, it'll have one SD card slot on the front as the maps are stored internally within the unit's hard drive.

Probably a daft question,but how do you know which version you have?

i bought mine off ebay and replaced the swing radio, if you are unsure what you have (skoda versions have the name on the front) theres always the sticker on the side/rear of the unit

What I meant was what firmware version is on,for example version 4 map or 5 etc...

Oh with the unit turned on hold set up button till a new menu appears it'll have a tab called version go in there and it'll tell you

Am assuming that means version 4 so I may look into upgrading when I get time

Yeah mine says v4. So bought the v6 upgrade. Apparently your suppose to be able to enable speed limits on the nav screen with the newer map. Should have mine tomorrow according to the estimated delivery time on ebay. I'll let you know what I think of it once it's done.

I also know you can update the firmware too if you know what your doing. I'm not that confident on this as there are loads of revisions of the same model to work out which firmware you would need. Wrong one installed could brick ot I'm told :S

Hi raymundo, I'm going away for a few days so have held off purchasing the V6 upgrade until I'm back so I'll be really interested in your experience with both the seller and the upgrade itself. When I looked at the owners guide to the Amundsen+ it said that you can actually navigate from maps on an SD card installed in the SD card slot so that might be worth doing to make sure all is OK before you physically overwrite your existing maps with it, apparently this option is to allow you to buy maps of an area outside of your normal maps say Eastern Europe for a trip and using then without overwriting your existing map database.

Well i messaged them yesterday to say i hadn't received it yet, there response in broken english was, there is/was a german postal strike at the moment so i might have it at the end of the week maybe....

 

I know the company is in germany but i don't go searching for news about postal strikes in other countries, why they couldn't of messaged me on ebay to say there would be a delay (which i would of been fine with as i would of been told) i dont know :S

 

A little bit annoyed, another item i ordered from germany turned up the following day :S

i tried to lock the card to prevent it deleting the information off it but it told me to remove it, its been in the car an hour now and im still waiting on it to install

Could you not have taken an image of the SD card on a PC before using it, and then clone to a blank one?

maybe but to be honest ive already read that the card comes up as unformatted when you put it in a pc, so couldnt be bothered.

Hi raymundo, glad that it finally arrived, I've been over in Germany (sadly not near the seller) and have seen post vans about so was going to let you know on my return.

 

Let me know how it pans out, I think that I'd have been tempted to use it off the SD Card at first, still you've pressed the button now I'll be interested in how long it takes to update the Sat Nav unit and whether it wipes your recent destinations?
