DIY Tracking anyone tried it?

Featured Replies

Hi All,

I am getting fed up of paying for tracking, places are charging about £30 for this now. Online they are some cheap ( £15 ) tracking devices. Has anyone got any experience of using them?

To be honest I have never tracked a car up, but wanting to learn to save some ££'s.

Trakrite Magnetic Alignment - seems a popular one and the Gunson Trakrite. I like the look of the Gunson Trakrite, seems easier to use.

Thanks

How much tracking are you having done?

I'd imagine once it is set-up correctly then you are done for life, unless you change or repair the suspension?

I'd heard the retailers that operate the Hunter branded tracking equipment are the best?

You can hit a speed bump and put your tracking out, its not set in stone, the ones garages use are around 1500 to 2000 with of kit i would rather pay 30 for the use of there gear :D

Tracking is just one part though isnt it? I pay about £35/£60 (2 wheel alignment/4 wheel alignment) for full alignment, camber, caster, toe etc. I'm happy to pay someone a few quid to know it's done properly, if my tyres last longer it pays for itself and the car generally drives better for it.

yeah i go for 4 wheel alignment with 4 new skins. and then get the tracking done when replace the two drive wheels

I thought the speed humps round here were pretty savage, but they can't be as bad as yours!

In all seriousness I've never needed to have my tracking adjusted, my tyres wear evenly, have I just been lucky?

Don't hit speed bumps at 60 then. Problem solved.

Clipped a hidden pot hole at 70, tracking is miles out, sometimes just not that easy when hidden by water etc

I was give a choice between hit a ditch or hit an on coming car on my my side of the road once.. put the tracking out so much it bent the wishbone...

equally i hit a pothole as it was that or the ditch. Or an on coming lorry... tracking was out after that too..

I can guarantee i don't hit speed bumps at 60 thanks ;)

Not trying hard enough then :P
