Rear washer jet nozzle cleaning

Featured Replies

ahenners,

there's a black plastic cover over it that you simply lift off (it's on a hinge so you don't have to take it off completely).

then carefully pull the nozzle off (it should be quite securely snug in the fitting, so takes a bit of gentle force).

I cleaned mine (it lasted four years before blocking) but it kept blocking again (dealer put it down to rust inside the nozzle) so they replaced it for £5 last year and it was fine after that, but if it had happened again (I no longer own the car), I'd remove it, clean with needle, soak in hot water and vinegar and replace - tends to do the trick, but IMO there will come a point where you have to replace it.

for info, a capful of white vinegar in your washer bottle every month also helps prevent grime building up inside in the bottle itself and then eventually making it's way to the nozzles...............

That's great, thanks Herschel! :)

Will give it a go tonight. It's under warranty but I can't actually be bothered scheduling it in to be looked at with my local dealer and dropping it off etc. if it's a nice simple fix.

Another great solution for this is get everything working. Then empty n flush the tank. Refill with hot water and a Milton fluid tab or massive slug of the liquid and run the washers for a few mins to flush the solution through the pipe work. The system gets clogged by mouldy water abs other bacterial growths on the filters of the pumps and the lining of the pipe work.

The Milton sterilises the whole system. It's a great idea to do once or twice a year especially before winter and summer. Cheap and very effective. Works wonders. Been doing it for years.

I've used white vinegar recently on one of the other cars....worked a treat too :)

Mine's currently soaking in IPA... again.  The crud coming off is considerable! I refuse to pay £10+ for such a small part.

Mine kept blocking up. I used short lenths of copper wire , of the correct diameter, important as pins did not fit, which pushed right through.

I use the fan nozzle safe fluid and the front ones did not block.

Eventually the rear wiper motor became erratic and the washer stopped working.

I traded in the car a few months later having never used the washer again.

I personally think it's rust that blocks it. I'm sure it's coming from the wiper motor as it goes through the middle of it.

Spot on....Had to change my washer jet about 2 months ago as it kept blocking up (about £8.50 from the stealers  ), but I noticed that the water initially coming out was a nasty brown colour. 2 days ago the motor packed in. When I took it off lots more rusty brown water came out. Just got a replacement motor this morning from Andrew Pages but it doesn't have the washer jet attached so its going back for a refund and I've had to order a genuine part from the stealer for £84.

When the jet blocks more fluid is forced into the motor, eventually the motor seizes.

When the jet stops working clean immediately.

Afternoon all

Decided to have a butchers at why my rear washer wasn't spraying and discovered the removable jet is blocked

It's currently sitting in some boiling water with fairy liquid to try to loosen up the blockage

I've tried shoving  a pin in the nozzles but to no avail as it wont go any more than a few mm down the nozzle before stopping.

Is there anything better I could soak it in to loosen things up a bit?

Any advice welcome

Phil

How do you get the jet part off does it just come off when you take the wiper off.
