Rear washer jet nozzle cleaning

Featured Replies

Afternoon all

Decided to have a butchers at why my rear washer wasn't spraying and discovered the removable jet is blocked

It's currently sitting in some boiling water with fairy liquid to try to loosen up the blockage

I've tried shoving  a pin in the nozzles but to no avail as it wont go any more than a few mm down the nozzle before stopping.

Is there anything better I could soak it in to loosen things up a bit?

Any advice welcome

Phil

Mine is blocked as well, meant to ask the same questions as you!

Are you sure it's blocked, and the pipework isn't just split before it gets to the washer?

Yes just the nozzle, take it off and use the rear wash wipe and you get a 6 ft jet of water shooting out of the pipe

Descaler?

Descaler?

would something like calgon be ok or would that damage the plastic?

I soaked mine in boiling water and vinegar - did the trick!

The problem I had is that when refitting (after first sticking a pin in the nozzle) was that it was no longer correctly aligned for the jet of water to pass through the small gap in the plastic cap. Could I hell adjust it back again. It either hit the inside of the cap, partially hit the cap or missed the rear screen by a mile.

I ended up buying a brand new one and it was aligned perfectly. Not particularly cheap though at £12 delivered...

i Noticed the price! seems daft for such a small item

Wont need to worry about mine moving as they are seized solid! although one hole has now freed up but so it will flow but I cant adjust the nozzle.

I'll have a go with the vinegar later much appreciated!

I used Mr muscle then some hot water and it worked a treat :)

Pin gently poked back thru, under a running tap, until it could be blown through. If done gently enough, no need to re-align anything ;) ;)

buy an estate. Never seems to need unblocking ;) ;)

You'd need to ask a woman someone else as I haven't got anything to look at. :peek:

use good quality vag washer fluid, as recommended by manufacturer for these type of jet

but why only the rear wiper jet/nozzle?

Never the front ones!

Mine'ziz blocks regularly/ frequently.

I paid £8 for a new one at main dealer when it was in for service, they even fitted it for free!

I paid £9.07 for a new rear nozzle jet for the old Fabia at the local main dealers, as I crushed the nozzle when trying to remove rear wiper blade DOH!!!

ps

i have successfully cleaned mine with the pressure washer, in-situ, since it clogged up again anyway despite careful removal and through cleaning.

buy why?

does the rear nozzle/jet clog so easily?

and not the fronts.

And dont suggest less frequent use, since that is not the case in my case.

just did mine with a pin , needed a fairly hefty push to clear it though

Thanks for the help guys now fully working! was fully of a brown clay type substance (probably very gone off washer fluid!)

My guess is it gets hotter sitting on the glass than the front ones which are hidden under the bonnet

A. Rear washer is used less often

B. When the car stops, the dust that's following the car especially going through the country lanes finds little gaps including washer nozzle and settle down thus blocking it over the time

I always use a single strand of wire from ordinary household flex. It has just enough rigidity to push through your average blockage. Or a single bristle off a wire brush.

I personally think it's rust that blocks it. I'm sure it's coming from the wiper motor as it goes through the middle of it.

Maybe that's why you never hear of this on the estates.

Does anyone have an idiot's guide to removing it? Do I just remove the rear wiper and then pull off the nozzle jet thing? Mine is currently not working. Can hear it trying to do something but nothing comes out. Tried poking a pin into the nozzles but no luck.
