Your mileage, wallet  and common sense will tell you whether you should buy a 272/280. You won’t regret the traction it offers.   I saw a lovely Aprilia RSV4 sport bike yesterday in a friend’s garage. He said he could have continued reading all the reasons why not to buy one, or just go out and get it. He reasoned correctly that you only get one life, so decided to stop messing around.

Your right tbh, I am more leaning towards getting one. I can't afford a brand new one so I need to see if any come up on the market.

It needs to be atleast a 2018/19+ l&k, with back leather and rear wiper though which is very hard to find.

just saw in another post that @Groaver on this forum is putting his L&K 280 up for sale, not sure if it meets your requirements, but there aren't many out there on the used market as you rightly say...

Thank you so much for this response. On average it's not a great deal more I am getting from a diesel considering I have alot less power.

390ps is nice, who did your tuning?

clp automotive in Sheffield, but any reputable apr dealer could do this for you.

Thank you very much for this.. I have just seen it unfortunately it has cream interior, With my kids I absolutely cannot have cream interior. The exterior colour is beautiful though, Shame.

Same here, I discounted several 280’s when I was looking last September due to cream interior or white exteriors! There was one in blue I liked the look of (my mk2 was a lovely metallic blue) but it had white interior and I know from my previous mk1 vRS that had white carpets how dirty it would look in no time especially now I have two kids!

Keep looking and I’m sure you’ll find what you want, I actually discounted the one I ended up buying due to it being in Swansea (hour and a half drive from me) but a mate sent me the advert one night shift break time and that was it, seed was sown and I went to see it and agreed the deal within a couple of days

edit, just looked on autotrader and there’s only 3 including the above mentioned L&K and a couple of sport lines. One white with canton and one grey like mine without it. Neither of the sportlines have the power boot from the looks of it and the grey one does have the rear wiper like mine and lists front and rear sensors but is missing the sensor button that mine has on the left side of the gear selector, not sure what that means though!

I am going to keep looking would be ideal if I could find one of the 2020+ models now as they are back to being 280ps + 400nm of torque isntead of 350nm and 280/272ps.

Tbh I don't care where the car as long as it's England Wales or Scotland. The l&k 190TDI I have now I travelled 2hr 45 and 153 miles to get it as it was in silver with black leather, has the rear wiper and also the digital cockpit and only had 2830 miles on the clock, at the time there was another which was in Exeter in petrol blue also had the rear wiper and black leather but had analogue dials and just over 6k miles and was the same price.

I don't even look at the sportline models, starting with the fact they have alcantara seats but ultimately when you have a l&k how can you settle for something with less spec? I know I can't.

There are people at work with 2016-2019 mercedes, audis and BMWs and their jaws dropped when they see the feature list of my car and apart form the digital dash (at the time because my car is pre facelift) the rest of features are all standard.

I was the other way round, I wanted a sportline over the L&K as I prefer the looks and wasn’t fussed about the extras on the L&K like the DCC, canton or vented seats.

each to their own, most of my friends who have seen the car (thanks Covid...) are impressed with how nice and well specced it is too.

Do they still make it as l&k or only sport line now?

They still make it as a L&K. As of right now The L&K has 2.0 TSI 190 & 280, 2.0TDI 200 & 1.4 TSI iV.

Sportline has 1.5 TSI 150, 2.0 TSI 190 & 280, 2.0 TDI 150 & 200 & 1.4 TSI iV.

I do like the exterior of the sportline and the steering wheel but that's about it. I mean ideally you could spec a sportline to nearly match the l&k but for me I can't deal with the alcantara especially with two young kids and a baby.

Infact just specced up a L&K 280 and total is just under 46k, the sportline 280 was just over 48k.

I looked on the online tool and couldn't configure a 272 with L&K so had kind of discounted it to be honest.

Might be interesting again now

About a week tbh... Will have another look now

That's odd, I even configured a  L & K 280ps back in early January to show one of my friends how the petrol blue looked.

I was looking at the estate, but I can configure that today so at least it's still available.

The killer is that an S3 sportback can be had for under 40k list vs a superb for over 40k list.

The kit on the car probably will be different and the size is obviously much smaller, but the extra tax on cars listing over 40k, will obviously hurt and need to be factored in.

Obviously it will come down to lease prices once discounts are factored in.

I understand that but for me though, can't go back to a smaller car than what the superb is, plenty of space for me my wife and the kids, the boot is massive aswell and fully electric and I really love the virtual pedal. I don't think there is a better new car for 42-50k than a superb especially the l&k as you do get alot of kit and alot of car and I would happily pay that price of I had that sort of money for the superb as it's something I would hold onto for a very long time hence why one of the options was 5 year warranty. I did consider an arteon but even a fully loaded one is 48k but with a TSI 190ps.

It's not really a superb problem, it's a VW group problem.

The car list prices are far more expensive than they should be IMHO, then they discount it away.

So I get a 5k discount, but a 2.5k extra tax bill (Plus first year hit).

Why not just take 3-4k off the list so it's below the 40k cap and people will have to get used to the fact that there is 1-2k off not 5k.

It's that "big discount" model coming back to bite them in the arris.

I totally agree with everything you have said.

Myself and others have often said VW list prices are too much. It's a joke.

I remember about 2 years ago the superb 272 was around 43k not tie nearer 46.

Wet on the school run sounds far from an ideal condition :tongueout:  repeat it in the wet and report back!

Is it tuned? If so it should be in the 3's even in average conditions!

Attempt 2. 1/4 mile in the 12s

That's more like it!

The DSG tune helps a lot with times from a standstill if you're really after lower ones, mine droped at least half a second after the DSG remap.

Interesting, although not many offer it I think. Apr and revo, right? Not cheap either. Don't think anyone with a skoda has done a haldex remap either

TVS are the DSG masters really, I'd go with them again even if the DSG remap cost me more than the REVO stage 1 :D

It's worked really good and the 0-xx times seem to be the lowest i've seen in a Superb or similar power/weight car, mine has the DQ380 7-speed though which was more quirky during launching when remaped but with stock DSG map.

Regarding Haldex, no one has remapped it per se even in the Golf R/ Audi S3/RS3/TTRS scene. But you can improve it a lot in terms of cornering with some of the aftermarket controllers available.

Not that it would affect the 0-60/0-100/1/4 mile times though as even as stock, when Launch Control is engaged the Haldex clutch is 100% engaged anyway and torque is split 50-50 (assuming equivalent traction is available front and rear)
