It does seem a little odd that it's so (relatively) cheap to insure. I've been running 2 cars for quite a few years, so I've got 2 lots of maximum bonus. My big/fast car has always cost more than £300, so this is the least I've paid for many a year. My small/slow cars have always come in at just under £200.

 

I'm 62, clean licence for nearly 40 years, never had a "fault" claim or had a car stolen, and live in a very low-risk postcode.  I guess it'll start going up dramatically in a few years when I become officially old.

At least I can look forward to cheaper insurance for at least the next 7 years (I'm 55 now) and also live in a low risk post code fortunately.

I have a few more on my AutoTrader save list but they are the 220's - I'm in no immediate hurry though, so i'll keep my eye out for another 272 version if one pops up.

I didn't haggle, I was happy with the price and got a decent PX offer.

How are you finding it hopefully you got a good one after trading in the Octavia Vrs they are surprisingly different animals in my 25 days so far with the 272. Had to put up with terrible commute tonight (accident on the M1) yet the stop/start along with the DSG made it bearable and somehow got 34mpg after taking 70 minutes to complete the 27 mile journey.

Can any confirm whether the 280 has a timing chain rather than a belt?  I seem to think that it's chain thus no need to change the (non existent) belt at 4 years.

 

And yes, you would expect my dealer to tell me what it needed but they never mentioned the brake fluid change (1st at 3 years, 2 years thereafter) or Haldex oil change last year and it's only because I reminded them that they were done 😤

 

Skoda doesn't help by omitting the service details from the manual...

 

From next year I'm off back to the independent that used to service my Octavia.

Yes it's chain driven like the Golf R no belt to worry about, think spark plugs are 5 years or 50,000 miles.

If anyone wants to know the truth about the recommended service intervals and exactly what should be done when they are all in the Maintenance pdf available or erWin. The pdf is a bit confusing to read and takes some time to interpret but all the info is there and removes the doubt you get about what the dealers tell you. If you pay the few quid to get 1hour erWin access it is plenty of time to download all the documents relating to your car.

Spark plugs are every 4 years or 60,000 km.

 

Interestingly Skoda's maintenance schedule only states distance and not time for changing the oil and filter in the 6-speed DSG gearbox as 60,000 km.

Would you change them at 24,000 miles (less than 40,000km) then because his car is 4 years old?

TBH I'll probably leave them to next year whether it's 4 or 5 years and have my independent garage do them.  As @shyVRS245 alludes to, it's a bit early for such low mileage. Less than 5k in the last 12 months.

 

From experience VAG intervals vary by country, phase of the moon, and any other random criteria they choose - the end of time/infinite distance in central Europe or the end of the street/Tuesday at 4 in the UK 🤔

 

Sticking with the DSG change is mainly because of the towing aspects adding more stress compared to general driving and the potential price of replacement components.  Unless they put an engine destroying time bomb in their plugs the worst thing I'd expect is a hiccup now and again if my old Hyundai was anything to go by 😁

Drove fewer miles than I thought

Back from the stealers and they've shown me the Skoda system which shows that DSG oil change is distance only (40,000 miles) for my particular car so I'll hang on until next year for that as I'm less than 2/3 of the way there.  Odd as I'm sure my Mk II was distance or time.

 

I asked about plugs and they're included in the major service anyway.

 

Simply Clever Confusing

 

My 280 is a 66 plate - coming up to 36k - had it at my specialist in Basingstoke yesterday - had the following changed: 

• Haldex oil £100 
• DSG oil + filter £195
• New set of Sparks £125

All priced are fitted. 

Advisory on Aircon, brake fluid change and near discs and pads need changing £330. 

 

I got the haldex, DSB and sparks all done - could have left it a bit until 40k miles but she is running a treat now - I did have some hesitation if the stop/start kicked in and would not start immediately - but this seems to have cleared the issue now. 

 

Will prob get all the discs and pads done next - looking at Clubsport S rotars for the front and some better performance pads.

Not sure - will have to ask the garage - the invoice just says 'Carried out haldex oil service'..

I made the same swap 2 years ago, 150 TDI Sportline >> 280 TSI Sportline; you're going to love it!

Really useful. But im a bit confused by the additional work table. There are 2 columns with different timings. Are they for flexible and fixed?

Sorry hadn't noticed I'd chopped the titles, the second column is for dust rich countries. Here is an update.

Just curious any 280 owners had a custom stage 1 remap done on their car in the UK with rolling road before and after printouts of power and torque. I know the 280 has more tuning potential than my dual GPF exhaust 272 but wanted to see what sort of power your cars make as standard assuming you guys are using 99 octane Tesco Momentum or Shell Nitro for best gains. Cheers in advance shy mine gets liberated in 6 days, super excited.
