I can't recommend this enough. The world has been fed a lot of 'what is a fun car to drive' by motor journos especially.

I mean how many people can appreciate steering by throttle, more so on public roads. End of the day there are different types of fun to be had driving. I had fun driving a fiat500 from Glasgow to London once through the Yorkshire Moors. To me, driving a super smooth riding, super quiet barge itself is a fun (different sort of fun) thing too.

Another thing that grates me is not enough attention is given to ride quality and NVH by motor reviews nowadays. Very relevant when it's a boggo family car that isn't going to be trashed. I'd trade sharp steering for better NVH easily if I know how I want to mainly use the car.

Summed it up nicely yourself "barge".:D

Is it really 350lb/ft? That's like 450nm which is the higher end of a good remap.

Yeah custom map 350 at 2,000rpm peaking at 380 at 2,661rpm and still 350 at 5,000rpm. 60mph in 6th gear (2,000revs) takes off like a scalded cat. 70mph upto 150mph in 0.7mile (1km) in 6th gear. 0-200kph in 15seconds dead.

Near on impossible to be doing a true 15.0" on the 0-200 with just that power. How was the time measured exactly?

517nm and 1,370kg helps a lot. Audi RS3 (395BHP and 4WD) has only 480nm and 1,595kg to move.:notme:

So let me get this straight, you didn't actually measure the time with some precision equipment but you reckon (for some reason) that if the RS3 does it in 15" dead you should doing it in about the same?

I hope I've misunderstood as I honestly wouldn't know where to start with that!

No RS3 will get to 100mph in 9 seconds and my slow Octavia takes 11.5 seconds.;)

What a palava... I asked a simple question, if you have measured the 0-200 time with some precision equipment or not, shouldn't be too hard to get an answer to something so clear?

Quoting the RS3's time is irrelevant for a number of reasons (AWD, closer to 420-430bhp as stock), just leave it out from the conversation.

That's not a reference to a superb. It's far from a luxury barge. Not gonna kid myself, nvh is lacking on the superb in terms of tyre noise and engine vibration into the car.

My family's 13 year old Camry with a 4 cylinder beats the pants out of the superb in terms of nvh. You could barely feel or hear anything on engine startup. On the superb there is noise (not that I mind) but you can clearly feel some vibration through the wheel.

My idea of a luxury barge is s-class, Lexus LS etc that isn't trying to be sporty.

Even if your car has the same power as an rs3, it will never be quicker 0-200km/h. The AWD will spank a FWD so much at the start that by the time any weight advantage is starting to make sense, it's over.

@shyVRS245 has several complexes and often defaults to the "mine is bigger/faster/more impressive than his" :bearhug: strategy when challenged.

It worked for him with his wife after all.:inlove: Unfortunately she didn't check with anyone whether he was exaggerating and now she's stuck with him! :giggle:

xman you are right it really is small as you imagine. Are you watching the Masters from Augusta or is it beyond your bedtime?B)

All I was stating is that my 336bhp is faster to 200kph than a 272/276bhp heavier Superb. Not rocket science, called power-to-weight 245bhp per tonne beats less than 200bhp per tonne on the Superb.:o

No I'm watching a couple of snails procreating on my patio, much more action than that mind numbing game.....:mmm:

But seriously to whom you were stating this?   There was never a 272 vs stage 2 Octavia question from anyone.

I asked if there was a verified measurement of the 15" you claimed for 0-200 not as a comparison to a stock Superb but because I know well the 0-200 times of tuned Cupras and Clubsports which are similar weight but more powerful cars than your Octavia, yet they would struggle to hit that time. 0-100 is at best a low 5 precisely due to all that torque you quote again and again that is just impossible to go through the front wheels at launch without some wheelspin, and then to go below 10" for the 100-200 it would take at least a stage 1 (360) or even stage 2 car (380). I have plenty of logs of various such cars to post, but I have yet to see any solid data from your side apart from constant blah blah of-course.

In all honesty, it seems like the only reason you are coming to this thread is to "state" facts about your car - that nobody asked about! Is it really so lonely in the Octavia III section?
