Thanks - good to see the delivery method in action and also colour co-ordinated :) Looks a bit vulnerable on the back of the trailer. I wonder if I choose to pick up from the dealer I can negotiate a discount - it must be some cost to deliver like this. maybe a tank of fuel as they have asked me to pay £30 upfront to ensure I can get to a filling station.

If I recall correctly I paid £160 for it to be delivered on a trailer rather than driven down to me.

I am being told it is included in the price i.e. I can choose to have it delivered on a trailer at no cost but no mention of a discount for  me picking it up ... but worth following up. Cheers

Hey! You asked a question, I answered

Can a muffler/resonator delete be done on the Superbs exhaust system?

And... are they even worth doing? I suspect not...

That supersprint exhaust sounds nice. But I have looked at the price..Lol. Mad.

If by muffler you mean the rear box(es) (as is usually the case), those you definitely don't want getting deleted!

I suppose you refer to the middle resonator. I'm sure it's possible, that's more like a plumbing job anyway, no actual "development" is required. You just cut the resonator part and replace it with an empty pipe of equal length, together with the necessary connections in order to be attached back to the rest of the system. Not nearly as bad as a muffler delete but still, what it tends to produce in these particular cars is noise, rather than pure engine/exhaust sounds. And you'll also hate it from the inside too. Definitely not something that fits the character of the car either I'd say (even a Sportline).

Yeah, I can't imagine any sane owner would ever pay in excess of 5K eur for a bloody cat-back, or close to 8K for a full turbo-back, that's beyond ridiculous. Of-course the valves bring the cost up but I believe local exhaust specialists should be able to offer more affordable solutions.

I guess you could say that's one of the positives of not having valves at all (us 272 poor sods), cheaper cat-backs! :D

Edited by newbie69

Oh yes how I can forget about them valves. To be honest, I peeked the other day to make sure they are there (they were) but really... I don't even know when they are on or off

Hi Nick, glad to see you are still driving the Red wagon.

I'm still (!) running the old Super B, but I did buy a Red Golf R hatchback last year, it's my alternative daily.

There are too many (with cameras) road-works on my regular journeys at the moment, so my long-term averages

have improved, 34 for the R & 37 for the silver barge.

As for owning a Mk3 Superb, my garage is still too small, maybe I should consider the next generation Octavia when it arrives.

Cheers, DC.

272 is extremely fuel efficient - just take a look from my last ride with eco mode after I understood how to use coasting best :D thats like 46 mpg :)

Its also exceptionally boring!

I have just managed to eke out an average of 32mpg on the last full tank which is the best to date, it did involve a fair amount of coasting and well below NSL scooting around the west coast of Scotland.   I’m not convinced the longer 7th gear makes a huge amount of difference MPG wise, at least to me anyway.  I think the estate perhaps uses a bit more plus I do have roof bars and cycle carriers on which will not be helping.  If travelling at the ’average’ motorway speeds mpg is woeful compared to a diesel of similar output, I had hope for a bit more, perhaps time will tell. Long term average is 28, just passed 5k miles.

The biggest challenge is resisting use the power, after a while you just get bored and want to put the hammer down a bit.

Agreed, although when i have one of those days when i simply want to chill I’m easily getting into 7.5/100 and it doesn’t play on my nerves.

6.1 was actually highway/local roads, mainly flat. Speed around 80-120 kph. 20% city with start stop on.

Ok, I raise! :D

272 tuned to 340bhp doing  52mpg   (values and data are real/not altered)

Does that mean you should be expecting 50s or at least 40s with your 272/280? No way. This was on flat, empty road late at night with as much as 50% coasting... Highway sticking to the limit I can almost touch 40's.

So yeah, there are conditions where you can see such numbers but not realistically unless the above conditions are what you are driving in usually.

Also, to make those that are worried their car is broken that trying to compare random figures not identical to their own driving (even if it's from the same car) is pointless.

Just like that? I'm a poor pensioner, can't afford a new mortgage + I've too much hobby stuff in my house, it would be a real

PITA to dismantle & remove it.

A Superb 3 does fit into SWMBO's garage as would a Tiguan or Cupra Ateca, but that would leaving my Golf at my house, & even

though it's a much smaller car it's 2027 mm over the mirrors & a really tight fit through the door, + it's a 19 mile drive just to swap cars.....

I've a short-list of cars that I would like (& can afford) to own, most of them are wider over the mirrors than a Superb 2. (2009 mm)

All down to modern cars having different door profiles than the oldies perhaps?

The only cars that fit my requirements are the current Leon, probably a Cupra ST of the forthcoming Focus ST Estate & they're both FWD

C'est la vie..

Hi again - looking for more advice while my order is in transit from Germany and I can't find many comments related to the extended warranty offered on new cars.

Have many people taken the option for an extended warranty? I suspect this is a very personal choice but my view is that as I intend to keep the car for a reasonably long period, taking the extended warranty to 5 years at £630 seems a "prudent" step. If I do decide to sell the car then it would be a positive selling point!!!

I don't normally invest in extended warranties but this seems an occasion where it might be worthwhile.

Like I say interested to hear what others have to say .. thanks in advance

New record today in the 280 - averaged 42mpg over 130miles from Nottingham to Barbican.

I don’t understand how you get figures like that. If I drive super steadily at the NSL everywhere the best I get is 36mpg.

If I drive it how I like it’s more like 27-28mpg. On average 32ish.

Edit: I always only use M99 or Super+ high octane fuels. Currently on almost 26k miles.

Considering a remap/tune once warranty is up.

I’m on M99 too. Are your tyres at the right pressure?

Today I had the AC off, before today best on a decent run was 38mpg I think - last week I checked and pumped the tyres 🙂

edit- green score is 86, I’d imagine you must have to get out and push to get above 90 🙂

Yeah. Tyres are on the harder end of the recommend pressure but not over.

Same here. I’m normally alone on the car so best choice I guess.

As to to your original question idk then. I put it in Eco, set ACC at 70-75 and away I go. I guess before hitting London I averaged about 65 on the M1 for a 100 miles.
