Retrofit rear view reverse camera superb 3t kombi

Recommended Posts

I don't think Skoda ever did a reversing camera, so you won't get OEM.

I hope I'm wrong and would love to know that they did, as I will then find a way of fitting one too.

Second page on this forum. Some superbs have different head units, this was based on a Columbus unit. While not OEM for Skoda most of the kit on the cars - including the columbus head unit - is shared with the rest of VAG.

Interesting, I fancy a RVC as well... The parking sensors work well, but the camera would be good..

I did speak to a "retro-fit" specialist a while ago who said because Skoda never did one for the Superb, which is odd seeing as it is in the Columbus handbook, the CAN Gateway needed to be coded as per a VW Golf, this worked but the MAXI-DOT was always on "PHONE" you could not change it... Not sure if this is true

So maybe this works different as it has a control module?

Be interested to know if it works if you fit it, and how it effects other things.. :)

My camera kit has arrived from China and is exactly as described in the Ebay listing. I was hoping for some fitting instructions but alas there are none so I just need to find out where the blue, red and brown wires are connected to before I start.

I'm interested in how you get on with this. The lack of instructions is very annoying, at a guess I'd connect the red to +12V, the blue to ground and the brown to the reverse light, but if anything is sensitive to miswiring it's a hell of a gamble. If you look up Elsawin online for one of the cars the camera is OEM for you might get an answer regarding the wiring though, but based on the instructions here: http://www.carsystems.home.pl/instrukcje/VW_Tiguan_RVC_LOW_EN.pdf the wire colours are different on the OEM camera anyway (They have a yellow and black wire).

The first thing I'd do is take out the head unit and plug in to the back of it to test the camera before wiring it through the car anyway. I've removed the rear boot lining before, right to removing the back seat, so I know that running wires from the boot isn't hard, but I haven't taken the lining off the boot lid or tried to run wiring to the front of the car, so this is where I'm in unknown territory.

Thanks for that. If the Tiguan is fitted with Columbus then thats a great help, hopefully I`ll be able to use the same two connectors on the quadlock, if indeed the Columbus has one.

As for removing the boot lid liner and everything else I`ll just have to be patient and careful so I don`t break anything.

I`ll hopefully be having a go at it during next week

The Columbus has the same connections on the back of it as in the instructions I linked above (I checked against a photo of the back of my Columbus) so the instructions are correct from a wiring point of view. The only difference is that you're going to have to route the wires across the steering column if you go down the right side of the car on a right hand drive car. I'd have a look at going down the left instead. When I added a split charge relay to the boot power socket to make it ignition switched I found a fair bit of wiring was being routed down the left side already, so it may be normal to mirror the left hand drive instructions where this sort of routing is needed.

Thanks again.

I found this thread http://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/279557-reversing-camera/?hl=camera#entry3315555 which was posted by an Australian driver which indicates that the left hand side on his RHD car has a lot of wires in it so it would seem that RHD and LHD are the same.

If I do manage to get it done I`m also going to have to invest in VCDS which I`ve been thinking about for a while so this will force me into buying that as well

I`ve been doing some searching using a part number on the back of the handle/camera part 56D 827 566A and found some useful info

The first link gives some info about fitting the unit to a Passat but the wire colours are different. At the bottom of the thread there are some more useful links

The second link goes to an Amazon site selling the kit with the same wire colours as my kit and which tells where to connect them. Brown to earth, blue to reverse light and red to power

So things are becoming a bit clearer

Hi!

I have got HL rear view camera on my Superb Estate Elegance+ installed. As a head unit I have Amundsen+ navigation system. Recently I have found new camera with washer. Does anybody have any idea of how much will it cost in UK as I am currently searching this thing?

Part number for this camera is 5TA 827 566 B

I am thinking of replacing the one I have now to this due to my experience of use. Camera gets dirty as soon as you hit the road at a rainy weather. This one could be installed and plugged to washing fluid supply with "T" connector. So if someone will do this retrofit in future the better solution is to get the one with washer.

Okay!

So cool. The only thing i worry about is cutting in my trunk lid :-( Norwegian roads are heavily salted and i worry about rust.

U use the control box too?? So the lines turn when turning steering wheel?

Ive heard about the calibration pad... nightmare. Hehe!

Yeah guys in a garage had to cut it, because original trunk lid knob is 2 cm. shorter and a bit narrow rather then Tiguan's. They used original paint, anti-rust grease to protect the edge of those cuttings. Then the hardest thing that control unit is not gonna work with Skoda can bus and it has to be flashed with different firmware for this control unit. As you flash the unit it appears in VCDS and you may code it. While I switch gear to reverse camera turns on and image of what is going on at my back with lined guidance and streams to head unit. Parking sensor still working at the process of reverse. The only thing that drives me little bit crazy, that red line appear to be in 30 cm. in front of an objects in fact it is only 10cm. And you can hear that bloody beeping noise. That is why I think I need calibration though. Edited by contractor
