Back on its wheels at last!

  • Wento for a quick trip to the petrol station. Got sidetracked. I am loving this car! It sounds like it's gargling on the fuel not just drinking it, what an awesome sound!

How much of that wiring should be there? Looks a bit of a mess

One day I went over a big hole in the road in my Strada Abarth 130TC and this big piece of card behind the dash gave way. The resulting carnage that cascaded down onto the passenger footwell, like a waterfall of multi-coloured spaghetti looked quite like Rob's picture :D  I stuffed it all back in with the repaired (well Gaffa taped) card and pretended it had never happened :)

Mine too!

Not sure. There's a black box with no writing on that looks aftermarket, It has new headlight wiring from the battery with fatter wire (apparently the stock wiring only got about 9v to the lights). These could be linked.

Some is aftermarket wiring for an audio install which I've mostly pulled out.

I'm going to remove the dash and the carpets before I attempt to work it out.

Just refurbed the loom on my Stag, my advice would be get the whole thing out, lay it down on floor. Tag what each plug is for, then you get a clear view over wiring and makes life easier :)

I've uploaded some more pics here:

Brisky won't let me link to them because they're hosted on Autoclique's server with weird extensions.

There will be a third build article soon with more words.

this is exactly how you make a car go faster. Add lightness :) Have you a time scale in mind for the car to be finished Rob?  Or are you just going to enjoy fiddling with it when you have a spot of free time?

  • Author

For now just the fiddling as I need to hold off a bit before I have to pay for the rust sorting out, that's not going to be cheap. I also need to get the parts car here before that, haven't worked that one out yet!

It's in Taupo 5 hours away and steering isn't connected :D

There are lots of things I can do in the meantime - surface rust, wiring, brakes, fluids, that weird noise from the steering, etc etc.

  • Author

Went down to see if I could sort out the passenger window. and found out that the windows didn't work at all after pulling out that loom. So I re-connected the stock wires properly and managed to get the passenger window to move 5cm. Need to buy some grease now to lube up the runners.

I also called to talk to a local rust place which is close enough that I can get away with driving the car there. They're going to come up and have a look, suck air through their teeth and that sort of thing. Scare me with a price.

You know that phrase "a child only a mother could love" :D Seriously Rob I'm sure it will be a stunning car when you are finished, but Looking at the amount of work you have done and still have to do shows this is a labour of love.

Great thread :) Looking forward to the video with the engine running .....Vroom vroom

I have one of those - I did a walk around when I first got it. It's not that interesting but I can upload if you like.

Don't worry our spiders are mostly harmless in NZ.
