The last part of my plan is this, to enable me to change tracks and volume without looking at my phone.

It's easy enough to test car hifi as long as you have the units, their interchange wiring, and a 12v battery.

Finally I have the correct clutch reservoir. It just arrived from Greece!

Starting to add stereo wires. Speakers first as they're the simplest.

Oh and i fitted the wheel centre caps.

Took Rusty out of the garage for the first time in months. The brakes work but are well squishy. Need to bleed them again.

 

It would have been rude not to do a quick video.

 

 

Two years ago vs. now. Progress is being made!!

That boot carpet after an hour of scraping and scrubbing glue off the back.

Stereo cage is in and I bought an ISO cable. It's a start.

It's working! Found someone local who can fix 80s PCBs. (Thanks Fraser for the tip).
There were two main problems, a leaking capacitor and a cracked wire in one ribbon cable. He's going to replace the other capacitors just in case.

@RobClubley - All the other capacitors!? The paper film ones won't leak, only the oil-filled ones.

All the ones he advises I'm taking his advice as he knows what he's doing.

Hoping to have it done by next week, and that's pretty much all I need to go and get it tested for a Warrant of Fitness.

That's ok then. I don't know which are which on that board, but I do know the 2 types and that paper film insulators don't tend to break.

He sent me a spreadsheet today with a list of which ones look iffy, original part number, specs, replacement part number. And he's noticed a resistor that looks like it has been very hot. ETA for parts is 7 days then it's go time

By then I should have the Bluetooth unit and all cables so I'll be able to finish that off and rebuild the dash, refit the ECU in the proper place (it's cable tied in now) and make it look nicer.

 

Though there is the voice synthesiser to sort out too. Hmm.

Cleaning up the trim that goes below the steering wheel and holds the ECU. There are holes drilled in the underneath where presumably a car phone was once fitted. Seems like a good place to install my bass controller knob. I'm still not sure if I'll install a sub, but it's easier to install the wiring now.

Then I realised I installed the bass knob in the wrong piece. Not sure how I ended up with three different ones! This is the correct one.

Bought some contact adhesive and refitted the rest of the boot carpet.

There's foam around the edges of the glass vacuum tube displays in the dash to keep dust out, which had turned into a sticky mess. This was my solution.

Re-fitted the back seat. So I had to try it out.

My car texts me now! GPS tracker is working.

I've been putting it off, but it's time to try and sort out the voice unit.

These should not have been connected. They were!
If connected they bypass/disable the voice unit.

Some #$%^#% has pulled out the pin for the speaker.

Test rig. Nothing happening.

Looking less complete than it was. Hmph.

Audio thingy has arrived. 

The courier tried to kill it by leaving it in a puddle in our mail box.

Neill even created these images and lists when repairing my digital dash so that they might help someone else who needs similar repairs.

 

Pretty sure that's not the factory connection for the throttle cable.

Started on the Out of Sight Audio install. Then realised my battery was flat, too much playing with stuff without running the engine to charge the battery.

Finally got these so I was able to get the rear speakers in properly and add the insulating cover to the battery live terminal.

And the Out of Sight Audio is working! Still waiting on a couple of wires for the tape deck, and my front speakers next week. Then just need to re-bleed the brakes and it's WOF time.

My front speakers have arrived. There's something very exciting about shiny new speakers.

Started on the install. I used my original speakers to mount the tweeters which already had holes drilled in them from a previous install. Not happy with it like this though, especially the passenger side.

 

I think my speakers sound good - but my Bluetooth thing is making a very annoying high-pitched buzzing which I need to sort out.
Tape deck appears to be non-functional :(

Bleeding the brakes again. Found two slow leaks on the right side of the car - might explain the squashy pedal.

Went for a drive around the block. Nothing fell off. Nobody died. Though there were some interesting suspension clunks when entering the angled drive. And the speedo worked for a second then read zero the whole time. Brakes were not great but improving as I went, so starting to bed in I guess. It was very loud! The wife said she heard the whole thing from inside the house.
