164mph mk1 fabby vrs.

Featured Replies

So was on Fabia vRS owners group on Facebook and a guy claims his does 164mph (according to his GPS). I asked his specs an he replied;

-Pd160 hybrid with billet wheel

-Cupra FMIC

-Hard pipe kit

-EGR delete

-Full miltek exhaust

-Racing clutch

-Mapped Ecu and box

I have no RR figures because he says he's never had it on a rolling road. I find it very hard to believe a diesel fabby can achieve this speed but stand to be corrected. What's ur thoughts ppl ?

I assume the speed 164 mph was achieved on a private road or abroad on the Autobahn

Not sure, he didn't say. Are his claims realistic for the mods he has ?

Would require a ballpark of double the standard bhp.

+ lots of gears .. / a clean fall from 10k feet

I reckon it would struggle to do 124mph..

Tom, they do more then 124mph standard ?

Idk as I don't own one yet. (Will do shortly)

What a load of rubbish!

For a start the car isn't geared to reach such a speed, it will likely run out of revs. It could have 500bhp but the gearing would be the limiting factor. More power doesn't = a higher top speed, not to that extent anyway.

Wind resistance also increases four fold over 100mph and the Fabia is about as aerodynamic is a breeze block! There is no way your going to see a top speed increase of 30+mph without changing the gearing.

Notice the ECU has been mapped and the Box  What box?

with the HDS box car will do 155mph reved out with the fjw long ratio box will do a little more im 280bhp though he's dreaming he'd need the long ratio box and the next size gtb up from mine

his gps was most likely been in kph

I believe its theoretically possible on the long ratio box. A certain fellow from Devon way probably knows the truth of what that box will do with 300bhp behind it. PD160 hybrid isn't 300bhp though...

You will 100% need a different ratio gear box to hit that sort of figure.

If anyone knows the ratios for the standard gearbox this is a useful tool for getting a theoretical maximum speed from each gear.

Be careful what you are referring to as the 'standard' box. Early vRS's came with whats refereed to as the 'long ratio' box as standard :P So he may not have changed the box, doesn't mean he isn't running longer ratios than your SE.

Even so there is NO way it'll hit 164mph! It's not physically possible on the standard box be it the pre 2004 one or not lol.

Using your own calculator it is. Here are the ratios for the FJW or FSM gearbox:

FSM, FJW

3,769 (FD1) - 1st

2,087 (FD1) - 2nd

1,324 (FD1) - 3rd

0,911 (FD1) - 4th

0,902 (FD2) - 5th

0,756 (FD2) - 6th

13 x 23 - Reverse

FD means final drive

2,955 = Final drive (1)

2,407 = Final drive (2)

Still, the guy in the OP wouldn't have the power to push 5000RPM in 6th. But it can be done.

For those figures above to be any use you need to know what tyre size the car has fitted.

This made my day!

Maybe with a long box and a very long road.

Just checking, does anybody care about top speed or not?

Everybody I know just likes a little bit of push back in the seats when you pull away, a good bit pull to say 80mph and that's it.

Even if the Fabia vrs could pull to 160mph, unless I took it to Germany I wouldn't be going near them speeds anyway.

with gearbox fjw long ratio box 4 mile of road and 280bhp+ its possible

top being fjw long ratio box middle hds 2004 on box and that's reving to 4500rpm gtb's rev 5200rpm

The same views as me.

It's not how fast it will go, but how fast it will get there.

I don't break the speed limit, just get there quickly. So anything over 90/100mph is pointless.

Just to clarify its not my car or my claims. Was a guy on Facebook on the vrs page that made this claim.

I also noticed he said mapped box, absolutely no idea what he's on about here.
