LPG anyone?

I have to say, I like the idea of lpg. It's cheaper on the wallet, and I also believe it's cleaner...

Just one thing to remember: a lot of car parks won't allow lpg, particularly underground ones.

Also, you can't take an lpg vehicle throught the Channel Tunnel if I remember correctly...

LPg cannot be taken through the Channel Tunnel correct. As for it being cleaner well the jury is still out on that one.....

Seat NL have developed a Leon 1.8T running on LPG. Yes, on a turbo! And it works!

It uses the latest LPI (Liquid Propane Injection) technology by Vialle and doesn't suffer from backfires or other nasty things that can happen to you when running an older LPG installation. It was recently tested against a Leon PD150 and it beat it hands down.

The fun thing is that LPI (also known as G4) is known to give a 20% performance increase by itself.

It's a trick that's been used in racing too, before it was banned from use in, probably amongst other series, the Dutch Clio Cup.

we have a 2000 (x) 1.8t octavia running on gas and has been since new with no probs and has covered 120k!

Thanks Guys,

I am deffo not going to jump into this, . Not alot you can do about the warranty especilly with the Jabba remap. My trip to work has now uncovered six LPG stations, prices range from 26pence to 36 pence /litre so in that it makes the sourcing ok .

What I did think was I need to see how much Petrol 1500 buys and also it means I can't change the car for the RV period without losing the benefits,

The technology for the system is alot cleverer than those of even 12 months ago. The latest systems use the existing Skoda ECU outputs to control the lpg injectors, wheras before they used to shut down the system and run independantly , which is where all the horror stories come from.

Now where's that calculator.

My Octavia vRS was converted to LPG through my company www.greenfuel.org.uk. The system we used is made in the UK by Beacon Technology. It was the first RS to be put through the goverment grant process and met the very stringent emission requirments with no problems. The result is that any RS will quality for a 40% government grant on the approved conversion. It is also congestion charge exempt. Cost of conversion is

The fact remains that even with 1300 filling stations a 250 mile range is likely to put you somewhere where there is no LPG unless you go out of your way to find a back street gas depot. 250 miles for me is one and a half commuting trips as opposed to the 2 and a half I get from the petrol tank. It sounds great until you look at the logistics. I imagine also that the Calor Gas depots are only open during working hours - another no-no as most of my refuelling is done on the way to or from work before 8 am or after 6 pm.

Nice idea, not viable yet.

Of course it would be better if there were more but there is a one new filling station opening every day. Many of these are Shell, BP and Jet forecourts open 24hrs. The filling stations are on most major routes and the majority of people have no problem finding a place to fill up. Try visiting www.greenfuel.org.uk/refuelling/ for a full list of sites and locations.

I did look - it lists the same 7 places in Wiltshire as I mentioned yesterday. In Surrey, at the other end of my commute, there are a couple, as long as I don't mind going the wrong way and getting tangled up in Guildford's rush hour traffic, which is not a fun experience. We'll see .....

Don't forget you'll NEVER be allowed on EuroTunnel - they are not licensed to carry LPG!! They turn you away even if you bought a ticket.............

What about the ferry companies, I seem to remember reading something simillar.

The EuroTunnel website asks if your car runs on LPG, and will not allow you to purchase a ticket if it does.

Ferries will carry cars with LPG, they are allowed to. The tunnel on the other hand, as has been pointed out, are not licenced to carry it / vehicles with it.

Does anyone know if there are any LPG filling stations on the Ring?

Not that I recall.

Oh and thanks to Paul and Jon for breaking my Ring virginity :D
