A new problem where to start

Quite a few times recently when coming to a stop in traffic or ready to park the Revs are around 12-1300, normally around 7-800.

Have noticed the Temp guage rises quicker as well.

On a short trip around 8 mile yesterday 2 around 30-40mph rest up to 70 when i came to park up revs at 1300. let enginge tick over awhile before turning off, the Fans were working overtime. Popped bonnet some heat underneath. water level ok never moved for ages since levels settled after new water pump. Went to check Oil level smoke started billowing out of dipstick tube.. Oil level is ok

I had simillar event few week back after 10 mile trip to work mainly 70mph a noticable smell and of heat comming from grill and fan was working when turned off.    Any ideas what maybe occuring

Checked thermostat?

Not checked anything other than oil water levels.

I do not have manual for this car, so unsure where to look other than basics

I see you drive a diesel. Sometimes diesel particulate filter regeneration can rise revs to ~1k rpm instead of ~750. The fans also work and it smells like something has been burnt badly.

Internet is full of information about these regenerations - read some articles.

Usually it's told to be approx. 1k rpm during the process and not 1,2-1,3k rpm but maybe sometimes it can be more. Not sure about this.
