vRSRobT's Octavia vRS CR170 update 08/07/2016 remapped

Featured Replies

So today my new (to me) late 2008 Skoda Octavia vRS CR170 was collected from the Skoda dealership in Horsham.  I have wanted an Octavia vRS for a while and was very happy to find this one with 120k with an outstanding service history and has never wanted for anything.  The dealer (Station Garage, Horsham) were also fantastic as well, so they deserve a mention.

So the car is currently in St Neots at my dads before it comes to Scotland to myself :) but just a few more pics :

Im hoping thats the case, I was driving to work today in the Passat enjoying the sunroof thinking i wont have one in the vRS, but yep only found out today its got one :)  Need to get the aircon checked though as maybe needing regassed or more, but dealership is willing to pay for it all to get fixed so probably get that checked on tuesday (if i can find somewhere to go )

Sunroof & A/C is pretty rare combo is it not?

Dealership seems decent if they are willing to pay.

So bit of an update on the car....

Few days ago, I had some spare time, looking at the car under the street lights I was not happy. Being OCD I was seeing oxidisation, buffer trails from potentially the dealer I had to do a temporary fix to not make me freak out soo much when looking at the car. So as a quick solution I opted for a single stage using Meguiars Microfibre system via DA.

Well glad I didn't, don't want to ruffle any feathers lol

Can I ask you a question?

Why did you use Red Mist to reduce Ghosting?

I assume by ghosting you mean holograms?

  • Author

Ghosting/wax hologramming, its something thats been discussed befor in detail over on DW or DDJF (cant remember), but when a wax is not fully cured, Red Mist will slighly deteriorate the wax, not by much, but enough to remove these issues and level out the wax.  It is usually caused by too much application, so the cure rate is different.  But in this instance as it was the 3rd time i had used the wax, it just wasnt great.  Obviously they have their "colour charged" element to the wax (light and dark), so you can see when its trying to manipulate the colour to enhance it.  It just didnt look great at all.  I think on a metallic car is would look fantastic as it did on my old passat:

Chris, the Fusso was really just to try it.  I had heard soo many positive reviews of it and for less than £20 I thought it was worth a punt.  But I usually stick to what I know with waxes...Dodo Juice, Swissvax and Angelwax.

Thanks

I thought that might be the reason

I have some Fusso but Ive had issues with it on my Octavia (Grey) and a clients' car (Black), needing a wet buff method to remove smearing (Recommended by Fusso to rectify the issue)

Stunning!!! Looks really fresh!

Nice work Rob!

wow!!

Red always looks amazing when polished :)

Chris, I think with the complication of Fusso its not a wax ill be intending to use much if at all...Im thinking i might replace it with Dodo Juice Supernatural Nano instead.

Thanks G, hopefully will see you about on the roads :)

Paul, your right about red when its polished.  I previously had a Golf GTI 16v in red and it was amazing, loved it and think red is just a "sportier" colour, obviously thats my own opinion and everyone might feel differently but I do enjoy driving it...even though seems like everyone wants to race me lol

Red does come up well ..Youre right:

o a little update...

Today I decided to work a little more on the vRS, something that was bugging me a little was the exhaust as I didn't have time to do it when I had done the paint correction. I used some Swissvax Metal polish with 00 grade metal wool then protected it with Britemax Final Shine.

After:

20150829_113214_zps8tomdo3o.jpg

Then there was the exterior glass as I wanted to seal it. I have used many different glass sealants in the past, but for sheer easy I opted for Gtechniq G4 to clean and G5 to protect:

20150829_121554_zpsdzsyrajt.jpg

Then the interior...it wasn't too bad and no stains on the seats etc.... so only opted for a hoover instead of a shampoo hoover, then protected the fabric with Gtechniq I1 (inc the alcantara on the seats), then cleaned the leather with Dodo Juice Supernatural Leather Cleaner and protected with Dodo Juice Supernatural Leather Sealant. The interior trim was treated with Dodo Juice Fantastic Plastic:

I've just looked at all these pictures with a open mouth as I'm still trying to get over the fact you said it has 120k miles! That's amazing, clean car. Looks really well looked after (:

So another update, but not the best update......

Someone scuffed my car :(

20150830_193116_zpsnyi0vysc.jpg

Removed the initial dirt and paint transfer with IPA, then again corrected with a wool pad and Scholls Concepts S3 Gold followed by Meguiars MF Cutting compound via a MF pad via DA followed by Rupes Bigfoot with Keramic Gloss compound and Yellow polishing pad.  The waxes with Soft99 Fusso Coat 12.  After reading a few threads this time left on for longer as that's meant to make the streaking/staining/ghosting go away......the RESULTS:

Its not perfect, but its dulled it down a lot, really will need a respray but that will have to wait as I'm not willing to claim my insurance yet.  Also will touch up the areas that the paint has been removed once I get some touch up paint.
