Black and white v. colour Maxi Dot?

Featured Replies

I'm looking into ordering an Octavia VRS and was wondering if the colour Maxi Dot is worth it? I did a search on the forum and can't seem to find a definitive answer, does the colour Maxi Dot do anything the black and white version can't do?

Colour Maxi Dot definitely worth it. Higher resolution and the colour really adds definition.

I may be wrong as I'm still waiting for my vRS but is the colour a pre req for the Traffic Sign Recognition? I ordered the colour as it's not a huge amount of cash to add it.

Colour maxi dog is worth it, if only for looks alone, it looks way better than the pixelated Black and White. The colour Maxi is similar to the PID display on the Citigo/UP!/Mii

If you are going for some of the more sophisticated electronic options available then colour is a no brainer.

Otherwise bw is fine for basic functions.

The functionality of both units are the same. The only real differences being the LCD display on the colour unit is a little higher res and some of the menus and warnings show some colour and v minor animated effect also.

I have to be honest, if I were faced with paying £80 for it, I wouldnt bother as it doesnt provide £80's worth of improved functionality. Choice between the V basic trip computer display and B&W maxidot now that would be a no brainer.

It is annoying that the display only shows one piece of information at a time. There is a good amount of space on there and showing more stuff would be good. I'm not saying over load it with information, but have 3 different mpg numbers instead of just one big one which you have to scroll through would be good.

That's a good comparison,

I wouldn't want to spend £80 just to have nicer graphics on something that  I only look at occasionally or out of the corner of my eye when concentrating properly on the road.

But it sounds like a good thing to try and negotiate into your deal for free, like the oldfashioned "flaps and maps", or more recent "spare wheel and a tank of fuel"

I got mine a week ago and glad I spent what is a trivial amount of the payments of the car, think it gives the dash a smarter appearance ;)

I haven't got it on mine unfortunately as I bought an ex demo :(. If I were buying new then I would definately spec it (Let's not forget, you're spending 20-odd grand on the motor in the first place, whats another £80? Might even be something a dealer would throw in for free?).

Not sure it would be worth spending the extra money to have it retrofitted though simply to make it look a little more high spec; after all, the B+W one looks perfectly good enough IMO, just not quite as nice.

If I could spend £80 to make my wife look that much better I would. However, spending it on what remains a relatively low-res display with limited additional functionality is much more questionable.

It should be standard

If your speccing the satnav then it makes a worthwhile addition, as you can see the direction to travel in a vivid green colour

For me it is a no brainer - colour all the way.

Both my O3's have had colour maxidots, when I see a B&W one I can't believe how low quality it is in comparison.

It should be standard

It is if you spec Columbus :)

Or you buy a 230.

or L&K :)

Not the conclusion I was expecting from a man who injects a little danger into his life!
