Superb III Sportline

PS:

OK, I’m a purist who finds a road legal Caterham barely good enough for track use; even they begin to feel rather squishy on the limit. A Caterham is, however, the only road legal car I’ve ever driven that can do real speed in bends with any sort of poise. Just about everything else is simply far too heavy to ever achieve that.

I enquired on Facebook to Skoda UK if the Sportline was coming to the UK:

"Hi Jim. At the moment we cannot confirm that the Superb Sportline will be coming to the UK, however, this does not mean that it won't in the future. Thanks, ŠKODA UK"

Hmmm, nothing yet then...

Geneva motor show begin tomorrow, im sure that we will have new informations about Sportline

The main reason for making sporty 'barges' is mostly aesthetic. The low and firm ride, however, is there to allow the driver to have a little more fun than they could in a standard car.

My Mk2 is lowered by around 30mm and rides on Bilstein B6 dampers. I can have much more fun through the twisty bits than I could in the standard car. It's also much more reassuring on the motorways at higher speeds as it doesn't float and wallow like before.

Some people like sporty looking/feeling cars, other people like standard looking, standard riding cars. Skoda are looking to cater for as many people as they can by offering the Sportline.

I think that even the most basic model is capable of going faster than is safe to do so on public roads, lowing suspension and sticking bits of plastic to a car do little but add a false sense of security. (And sell cars to a different target audience). I do however like the look of it!

I got the exact same response when I asked about the vrs230 and eventually we got it. Suspect by about June they will be in showrooms.

Yeah. That's just not funny. About 2 weeks before my superb turns up skoda decide to upset me with that!

So, another great, but show-only colour?

Seats with more lateral support are a plus

Seats with exceedingly naff-looking, non-adjustable head restraints are a minus

Anything else?

so those seats look pretty close to the seats I had in my old s6. they are very comfy, and the support is nice, but they are missing the extension on the front, which at 6'2" made the seat a hell of a lot comfier.

other than that, it looks nice, and I might pick up a FBSW at some point, but not much else would be that compelling

I love it! Take my money!!!

Seats are reskinned Octy VRS seats (diff fabric pattern /leather stitching etc) and the steering wheel is the much used VAG special! Nout wrong with either as I love my VRS seats and FBSW.

Pity we won't be able to buy this until much later this year as I would have one just for the looks alone. White please as per the 2015 unveiling, not keen on the red at all.

Oh, I'll have the red one then.

With the 280 engine and the 4x4, please

[edit]

Actually, can I have it as an estate, and change the wheels (unless they come in sided pairs)

No 4x4 badge???

Its not a 280 though.

Short clip of what I assume is the same red one in Rapidronnie's post above from the Geneva Show....

One has to wonder what's the point if it isn't a 280 :wonder:

There is little logic in Škoda limited editions, take the Monte Carlo editions (due to their rallying success) so a Yeti Monte Carlo is the obvious choice.... NOT.

I agree the Sportline should be a 280 only

I'm all for sporty versions, I just don't get trying to turn a vehicle aimed at the luxury end of the market into one, leave that to the Octavia and hopefully the Fabia.

But each to their own.

Its not a 280 though.

Presume the Sportline will be available with most/all of the engine options like the Monte ranges.

Yes that is what has been claimed.

IMO.only the highest powered engine(s) [as you could argue that possibly the diesel should be included... as in the vRS] but certainly nothing else.

I also think the 280 should only be available in 2 trim levels:

L&K - for those who want all the toys.

Sportline - for those that want a sportier looking car and are happy to lose some of the toys (as std)

You can see on the video that the exhausts are blanked off fakes.

Why don't they make a super luxury comfort version (L&K is a bit basic and too much like the cheaper trim levels) instead of all these stupid sport versions!

if I wanted a sports car I'd buy one, never have though and never will, nearest I ever got was a Lexus/Toyota Soarer.

Forgive me for asking, in what way is an L & K  a bit basic?

Serious question, if only 'cos SWMBO want's be to buy one......

My sentiment exactly, sooty1444 - word for word!
