oooh look what I got

Featured Replies

After all this talk about getting a litre of oil for free, imagine my surprise when I was given this bag when we collected our new car today..

inside was a veritable treasure trove.. including Oil, screenwash, a key ring with atrolly token, a hot drink container thingy, screen scraper, money off vouchers for all manner of things - including a half price MOT - which I'll use on the Citigo!!

Very nice. Simpsons gave me one of the trolley token keyrings and a bottle of oil but none of other trimmings. Still, no complaints though...

Awesome

Picked up the new Scout from Henry's (Glasgow) on Tuesday and got... wait for it ... nothing :(

I'm not bothered (rather have good service than flowers), however, wife did comment first time  picking up a new car and no flowers.

Forgot to add had to buy her some flowers at Tesco on the way home - cost me a fiver :(

Nice gesture from a dealer. I remember well when dealers filled the tank with fuel & handed SWMBO a bouquet of flowers.

Albeit the deal I got on my car was good the salesman drove me round to the local filling station and put £5 fuel in & seemed pleased with what he had done.

Ultimately nothing is free, if you get a load of freebies then they have either screwed up with something and their customer services has kicked in (they will have a budget to keep customers happy) or you have effectively paid for them by not negotiating the best deal they could have offered you.

Not many people are comfortable with the negotiation stage however and many people will even pay list price for everything and still be happy with the deal, ATEOTD that is all that matters... YOU are happy with the deal you got and ‘freebies’ make a lot of people happy... so you return to the dealer for servicing etc.

Quite possibly, but in the past I have used this dealer for test drives - as they are the nearest Skoda franchise. Then walked away when they could not give me a decent price on a Yeti and a Citigo.

This time around the same sales guy remembered me, and after chatting with his manager gave me a 2k discount off the list  price.

Bearing in mind if you work on the premise that no-one ever gets a discount and always pays full price, then this dealer is still giving more than others who (on the same sales price for the vehicle) - do not.

The discounts are certainly there although how much can largely depend on how they are doing with their targets as an example this is what I was offered:

14% off RRP through carwow supplied by a local dealer, however 1 month later this changed to 2% off (£700) so I went with a different broker who gave me 21% off.

I hate haggling like most people, which is why the broker system works for me, but it is not all about price either, I still want good customer service and will pay a premium to get it... just not a £7K premium!

Have to say, I don't want to take Gizmo68's version of events as I want to believe that some some "good guys" still exist. But I think he could have something. I recently picked up my brand new VRS from a dealer. When we were in previously my four year old daughter loved the "Octavia" neck pillows and so I mentioned this to the salesman. They retail at £9. He went to see his service manager, after much dialogue he returned embarrassed saying his service manager was in a bad mood and if I wanted one it'd be £9. I said it was fine and paid, but for the sake of £9, that service manager has ensured I won't go back there for a service. Sometimes I think the bigger picture is lost on some people.

The sales manager I saw said he would match the best online lease price I had found if I agreed the deal there and then for a car already at the port. He admitted that he wanted the sale to count towards his September target. That was fine by me, he was being honest. He compromised on price, I compromised on colour. The only available vehicle had a spare wheel, which I said I didn't want (I did really!) so he let me have it for free. And I got a full tank of diesel.

buying a car without a full tank of fuel aint going to happen.

i have had a few cars but never had to fill the tank when picking it up...

100% this. I didn't even get a litre of oil or an ice scraper! However I did achieve a 18% discount.

But the most important this is everyone is happy. Enjoy the new car.

You should have got your simply clever Skoda ice scraper in the fuel filler flap.

I got a decent discount and a full tank of fuel.

This was also my first new car so was hoping for some freebies too. I made a passing comment about the skoda umbrella lying in the show room but they shot me down saying it was for customers looking at the cars outside when it rained...

FAIL

Never got a "free full tank of fuel", In fact with most dealers you actually pay for the fuel in it anyway.

Anyone in Ireland ever get the free oil? Haven't seen it done in three new car buys.

Negative.

Not bothered about it anyway. :) only poor people gave to scrape ice of cars ;)

And how does rich people remove ice? :p

In sweden I got:

Flowers :/

2l oil, Umbrella, Key chain, First service, vrs cap, skoda usb stick (16g), firstaid kit.

A friend of mine bought a new lambo and only got a key chain :)

One doesn't - one has "a man" to do it for them :p

Half price MOT?

How much is the full price to see if half price is any good?

I took swmbo's 62 plate Citigo to a little MOT centre and paid all of £30 and obviously it sailed through :)

Local Skoda dealer wanted £54 then offered it at the lowest they could go £45 still not £30 and an MOT is an MOT :)

Think I'd still be happy with the lambo though eh ;)

I got a part finished paint job when I collected my new Octavia.

Also, a damaged centre airvent module.

My dealer made a mistake (more of an illegal blunder) when sorting out the finance on my PCP so ended up giving me the car for a 6% loss (18% discount for me) with free life shine and GAP.

The life shine was done really badly so they are doing it again this weekend.

I also got 2 keychains.
