Newbie with a few Q.

Featured Replies

Hi all

Just purchased a superb elegance tdi 170bhp! Pre registered (64 plate) dealers demo car with 2k on the clock! Drove all the way from Glasgow to Harlow for the car bought it drove back up had a play about with the car & now I have a few queries.

Car is mint & like new as expected few questions as this is my first Skoda

Mfd is displaying inspection in 5 days & counting down! Asked the dealer in Harlow what it was said maybe car service/inspection needs to be reset went to Glasgow dealer they said it needs a service! ! Mileage was 2490. Harlow had got the car may 2014 registered on December 2014 was then used as a manger/demo car till now (new shape out now) I thought the inspection warning was a pre run in inspection to make sure everything was ok mfd says 18k & 355 days till service! Tried resetting it but I just reset the service interval by holding the 0.0 trip.

Mfd is displaying the speed in kph read the hand book & there supposed to be a alt speed option in the settings but I've looked & I can't find this option! !

When pairing my phone (samsung s5) the premium pair works BUT I keep getting the text messages say sim card has been changed ect & I can't access the Internet on the handset when paired to the car! For noe am just connected using the normal bluetooth!

Car has no sat nav dvd Harlow said they would post it (Monday I phoned) do you think another dealers would give me the dvd disk??

Sorry for all the questions :)

Beautiful car & friends and family are shocked that's it's a Skoda!

Welcome aboard! Good taste sir.....I have not got answers for all your questions but I'm sure someone will be along shortly to help out.

DVD for maps is expensive so chase on that....Harlow should send you the latest disc (version 12 I think?). MFD for changing kph to miles is on there but I can't remember where. It's buried in settings I think. If I remember I'll post on here.

Good luck with it all. Lovely car. Enjoy.

Dave

The large digital MPH display has to be enabled via VCDS and doesn't come as standard (It's actually the Australian digital speedo). Once enabled you have an 'Alt Speed Display' option under MFD settings.

Davey it's just the small read out above the miles & trip counter on the mfd display am thinking it's kmh incase you go into Europe as i seen in the settings you can change the headlights.

Regarding the Mobile phone / Sim Card - I had the same issue, which to resolve I had to install 'Bluetooth Phonebook', which is available from the play store.  To temporarily get rid of the error message, when asked if the car should have access to your SIM, say no... I 'think' that at least got rid of the error...

The bluetooth phonebook app is only a quid or so.

Pretty much so - the MPH is on the speedometer, KMH is in digital text as you say. This is standard and cannot be changed, unless you have access to VCDS as others have stated.

Did this allow you to access the Internet with the handset or just stop the sim change texts??

Getting 1 day count down for thr inspection notice anyone still not know what this is for?

Cheers Coop at least I now know am not going crazy not being able to find the option to turn it to mph in settings!

Welcome Kitkat72,

You've come to the right place for info on your new wheels.

Think the small digital MFD speed display has been dealt with above, with regards to the phone system its quite different from the std blue tooth a lot of cars have.

As I understand it VAG group use whats called rSAP protocall to connect phone to car. This stands for 'remote Simm Access Protocol'. The cars internal phone kit actually reads the phone simm via bluetooth and then uses the info as if the simm is in the cars own phone. The Superbs phone kit is not just speakers and microphone but transmitter & reciver as well so you may be able to hold a weak signal longer when in the car than you could normally. As the car takes over the simm in the phone you will find that the phone handset looses its normal functionality when connected to car, so web surfing etc seems not to work.

This system has pros and cons - I find that the ability to turn the car into a mobile wifi hotspot is great so the family can surf etc during the journey on their wifi connected devices. Its also nice being able to read incomming text messages on MFD and also the satnav screen (Not sure if this last option is available to all models)

Have not really been able to find any cons myself but I know a few people on this forum have had trouble connecting etc. rSAP is only available on a few manufacturers phones - Blackberry (used to support not sure if they still do), Samsung and HTC. Have have run both Blackberry 9800 and current HTC1M8s and both worked absolutly fine no dropped connections.

By the way, the Harlow guys look after my car - seem to do a good job on the service side so I hope your purchase exsperiance was good also. I'm had my car (63 plate) from new and it did not come with a nav disk so I wouldn't worry about it too much, most Skoda dealers seem to have disks that are out dated anyway - have a look on this forum and you will see plenty of posts about how to update the mapping for minimum if any outlay.

Enjoy your car, come back with any question - we were all new once :D

Having said all that there is a few probs with rS

Welcome to the forum!  :sun:

After reading your opening post I'm a little confused...

Mfd is displaying inspection in 5 days & counting down!

Mfd says 18k & 355 days till service!

What is the MFD showing?

There has been lots of confusion with the facelift as the way in which the service intervals are displayed has changed.

On the pre-FL it was simple...

Y7RGM23rdJuly2014_zps7d75eee6.jpg

However on the FL it changed to this...

ServcieIndicator_zpsc69bbe1c.png

This has caused lots of confusion with not only owners but the dealers themselves!

Without going in to too much detail (the type of service that the car is set-up for also affects how the MFD displays the intervals, for example fixed vs. variable) if it is saying that it needs servicing in 1 day then it needs a service.

When you mentioned this to the dealer in Harlow and they said it needed resetting why didn't they offer to do this before you left?

I think I know why, because they didn't want to incur the cost of the service it needed and knew you were driving up to Glasgow, far, far away to be too much of a nuisance to them!

If your local dealer has confirmed it needs a service then ask the Harlow dealer to pay for it or refund you the cost of the service from the Glasgow dealer.

Enjoy the car!

Tch....exactly - its bloody outrageous to be frank.... Without doubt, the dealer in Harlow knew that the cars due a service and they should've done this for you before they took your cash and handed you the keys.

I had the same problem with Blade in Gloucester with mine; they were supposed to've serviced it and didn't - of course, stupidly in hindsight, I took them at their word and didn't check the service indicator when they delivered the car to us....and yes, 10 months later, the service indicator then bangs on every time I turn this ignition on. Now, they couldn't care less, so I've had to fork-out £250 to get this done.

You're in a great position to get them to agree this, so call the dealer Service Manager and if you have no joy there, the Dealer Principal/owner.

Anyway, as has been said by others, welcome to Briskoda, the most helpful and friendliest forum on the web and enjoy the car. I cant wait to get mine back this PM.

Davey it's just the small read out above the miles & trip counter on the mfd display am thinking it's kmh incase you go into Europe as i seen in the settings you can change the headlights.

The small KPH readout is always displayed....... The only way to get rid of it is to enable the Australian Speedo as i mentioned previously. You then get an 'alt speed display' option in the MFD and when selected the small KMH disappears and when scrolled to the large MPH speedo is displayed on the MFD.

This can only be done as i mentioned via VCDS.

The reason it's always displayed here as standard is that the speedo dial itself does not have any KPH markings on it.

Just been to another Skoda dealer in Stirling they have checked the service book car was PDI checked in may 2014 then after 6 months it was registered December (64 reg) so the car is really 16 months old & that's why the inspection has came on!

Now the dreaded phone call to the dealers on Monday cos I know they will probably say bring it in & they will service it knowing am 400 miles away!! In hindsight I should have checked this before I left the garage BUT I thought the car was 9 months old & I knew I would have done 10k by December (40k per annum) also beginning to think they have lost the nav dvd as still not received it through the post yet!

Going to try get them to foot the bill for the service saying they should have had the car checked before the sale as they told me they were preparing the car for collection!! more like washing it.

Good for you. You could call them tomorrow? Anyway, let us know how it goes...

Update:-

Phoned Halrlow dealers on Monday morning asked about the nav dvd & told asked him about the car needing a oil change cos I have inspection now warning! Said has disk on desk will post it to me asap & will see his manager about the service ans phone me back!

I phoned the Glasgow dealers & asked them for a price on a oil change (qouted £89.80) and told them mystory he then thinks Iit ddoesn't need a service because the car wasn't active till Dec 14 and would be due a service this December.

Got my navigation dvd in the post today it's a SD card put it in the car & I get the following error "sd card unreadable" dvd cover box says on it NAVIGATION SD CARD EUROPE EAST (CW 45/2014) now looking at the back cover it shows the far east shaded in greeen is thats what is coverd or not covered? ? Thinking its not a uk map hence why it's not reading in the stereo!

Was thinking of trying itmon my dad's laptop as his has a sd reader seeing if I can pull the files of it burn it to dvd see if that will work!

They have sent you a map SD card for a new style Columbus and not the original Columbus you have in the Superb..... You need a map DVD not SD card.

Going to try see if the Glasgow dealer will swap it for a dvd version if not I'll see if I can burn it it to dvd.

You'll waste many hours and blank dvds trying to burn the SD card files to work on your unit. The maps and data files are not compatible between the two units. To be honest I wouldn't worry too much about having the maps dvd, as it's going to be out of date in another couple of months anyway, and you'll not need to reinstall it unless something goes wrong with the unit, in which case warranty will cover it. If you get a dvd then all well and good, but it won't be any use to you really.

How do you update the maps? You need to pay skoda again for new maps?? They're over £200 for the disk I've been told!

Find someone with an up to date DVD and borrow it. The data is saved to the hard drive in the unit, so the DVD is only needed once unless something else breaks. It worked for me thanks to another very helpful forum member, but you'll need to find someone in the UK :)...
