Buy A Skoda - never ever again

Featured Replies

I was hoping my first post here was going to be asking about chip recommendations for my Superb 130tdi.

However

At 10k miles the discs are vibrating like they are warped, the paint has come off the alloy wheel nut covers and the instrument lighting is dark on the right hand side.

No worries I'm sure all will be rectified at the 10k service....but no Rainworth motors say none of it is warranty and their computer says the instrument lights are ok. LMAO I was gonna suggest that the computer comes out at night with me but...I contact Skoda UK and to my amazement am told the same, discs have a service life and they won't be replacing them ! The wheel nut covers despite costing pennies won't be replaced and the lights need to be checked in the dark, I'm obviously blind and my word not good enough.

This is very petty for a nearly new car with FSH.

I'll live with the faults for now....

This morning and we get an engine warning light and no power, I'm only a mile from the same dealer so stop by.

They tell me that to do a diagnostic check will cost me

I can understand why you are unhappy. Where did you buy the car?

name and shame

big complaints in writing to skoda CS

find a good dealer

all should be well then

It's Skoda CS who have tried their best today to help but as friendly as they were I am still left with a car I can't use. I still had to listen to a dealer principle rant about where people buy cars from and I've still lost a days work. When we were looking to buy I dropped into the same dealers in work clothes and they all but ignored us, we were looking to buy a

 go you!!

at least CS are helping you, when i had trouble they were the pain and the dealer were very helpfull :)

so which main dealer did you buy your car from?

As for discs.. on a big heavy car like a superb its not unusualy to require discs / pads at 10k....

Discs and pads at 10k  I think not, my pads last over 20k and i've never had to change the discs. now approaching 90k!! if my discs were needing changing every 10k I would have thrown the keys back at the dealer and demanded a refund!!

I dont drive like a p**f either!!

My local dealer (saltdean garage nr peachaven) are utterly useless, ive been waiting for them to call me back for over a month now!!

I dont think skoda should be anywhere near the top of the 'top gear' survey, I believe the results are fundamentaly flawed, people buying Skodas dont expect a lot so they rate them higher, my experience has been a living nightmare, I will also never again purchase a vehicle with a Skoda badge which is a shame as (if it worked properly) my Superb 130pd would be such a nice car!! and for the money - what else is there!

I feel that Skoda Uk have ****ed up with their drive to be more like Audi and VW, less dealers at a time when the brand is growing.

The number of dealers round my way has dropped by 50% at a time when sales are growing

When I go to my local dealer the service is ****e and they are jam packed with my mates taxi fleet.

Yes it looks smart from the front with the brand livery, but you can't polish a turd.

I hope my car doesn't get sick as options for repair locally are disappearing fast.

I hope someone comes on here without bad news, if Skodas are so high in the charts where are the positive stories of good service from Skoda UK regarding their dealer network.

All surveys are flawed... the kind of tw4t that replys is stereotypically this walter mitty / victor meldrew type who has nowt better to do..

Ditto this board.. 2 types of poster... those with an interest in driving their skoda... and the whiners who join post some nonsense about how crap the car they bought from xyz is... then disappear......

As for disc wear rates... mk1 octys last well as they are not underbraked... Furby vRS's less so - cooling is poor and size is small = greater wear/warping. Moving up XKRs can warp discs in sub 100 miles... (trust me) pretty much anything with a kerb weight of over 1500kg and brake size sub 330mm will easily warp its discs..... this is before we get technical and introduce pad compounds and driving styles and auto boxes.......

My Superb is 3years old next march. 51k at present. Totally happy with car. Dealers carp though (since gone bust). :thumbdwn:

Total faults/service items so far:

Electric radiator fan bearings noisy at 2 weeks old - Replaced warranty.

Faulty rear parking sensor - ditto. (2x attempts!)

vacuum pipe detached putting engine into limp mode. (RAC)

1st set front Brake pads at 45k

1x Set tyres.

Numerous headlight bulbs. (I have on continuosly)

Instrument lights are less bright on revcounter-decided this was set to highlight speedo.( maybe i'm wrong?)

And some of the soft touch finish peeling off door grab handles and round gear stick trim. :(

Oh, and steering wheel upper bearing gone sqeaky last two weeks.

Overall I can't complain at that. My last car, an Avensis had catastrophic engine failure at 80k due to a plastic cam tensioner wheel failing. Left me stranded. :(

I will get either another Superb or Octavia. Looking now and nothing comes close. :)

I filled TG survey to get Skoda in there! Also Post coz I enjoy the car!

Instrument lights are less bright on revcounter-decided this was set to highlight speedo.( maybe i'm wrong?)

!

You are! both mine and my fathers Superb have the same brightness across all the dials (and we both do a lot of night driving)

people buying Skodas dont expect a lot so they rate them higher

Don't agree with you there, I demand an awful lot from a car, and so should anyone who pays the asking price for a relatively new Superb - or any car for that matter.

If it does not work then its not fit for purpose and therefore you have a come back on the dealer, or supplier!

I can understand how gutted you must be to have all these problems. It just goes to show how important a decent dealer is. I know it's no consolation, but our local dealer is fantastic, and is always willing to help. Sounds like a few dealers need a bit of a wake-up call.

My Superb has done 27k, and no problems with the brakes or the instrument lighting. The only niggle has been the vibrating air ducting.

I hope things get sorted for you very soon.

P.S Anyone know a proper Skoda dealer in couchcommando's area?

It isnt a Skoda thing....VW group all through are just as bad. My T4 Transporter 2.5TDI and auto box eats front pads every 10k-15k miles, rears every 20k-25k, and relevent discs every other set of pads. The previous manual version did 20k fronts and 30k rear pads, and again discs every other set of pads.

The standard brake pads are useless, and as they have wear sensors on the inside pad, which are way to wasteful. Is it any wonder you only get that mileage out of pads?

My Superb is now at 18k, and has original brake pads and discs.

Call it how you will, but I expect my dealer (car and van) to give me a better service having bought the vehiecle new from them over those that buy elsewhere.

How old is your car? If it is under 3, and it's a UK car, you have AA cover which provides a replacement car for 48hrs :D

Oh an dthey'll relay it to wherever you want. Sooooo, I'd find a dealer who can deal with it, "breakdown", get it relayed there and collect your Enterprise rental car for 48 hours, free gratis and for nothing :D

What an arrogant opinionated **** you are, you don't work in my local dealership do you ?

As most others here can understand my plight I assume you are in the same minority my dealer is, as for the discs what a load of crap. The car has done motorway miles from new. It gets driven normally, my last car a Volvo 850 had the original set at 110k miles, that's not exactly a light car is it ?

I have managed to warp VW discs after coming off the motorway a little warm, and then sat waiting at a stop line/traffic que foot brake applied. The heat absorbs in the pad, but not from the whole disc warping the disc. I have managed this at least 4 times.

its a great shame you are having such carp from your dealer. my local dealer, robert bamfords are superb (sorry!) and are very efficient and friendly. i bought my octavia vrs with 16k on it and it now has 80k. that milage has been done in just over a year! problems? coil packs replaced under warranty while it was having a service. temperature sender unit died 50 quid parts and labour and thats it! its had new discs/ pads all round (changed at 45k front 70k rear) and two sets of tyres. it still drives like new!

no complaints here!

you will get that from over here from time to time m8, can't be to many couchcommando's around, so you must be "THE" couchcommando?

Please refrain from making personal comments about other members - the original comment was not aimed at you, it was a general observation about the forum demographic in comparison to survey demographics. :)

Rob.

I've not managed to warp the discs on my Fabia vRS - hopefully I won't either :D

Don't do track driving, and I no doubt don't drive it all that hard I suppose. That said, I'm going for 312mm upgrade on the 1st of Dec or thereabouts (when my insurance cover kicks in for them). :)

There are some strong opinions expressed here sometimes, and I've not always agreed with them, nor do I expect to be agreed with at all times :D

Regardless of all that, it's a pain when a dealer lets you down, and when you are starting to run low on alternatives :( - it may be better to go to an independant garage instead, or perhaps one of the specialist VAG tuners that appear to be dotted throughout the country, and tend to be pretty competitively priced :)

Hi

Re: warped discs.

I had a major problem with warped discs on Fords over the years. At one stage I even picked up a new car from the showroom with discs that were plainly warped on the first application. Audis IIRC have always had a problem with this also.

Why then did I never have problems with discs on my big autobox Vauxhalls (Omega and Senator, both 1500Kg+ with 220 + bhp and a nut loose on the end of the brake pedal)? Discs on these wore down to a visible degree at around 60K, where I replace them even though still in spec, which is reasonable for the performance and mass of the cars. Had a well tuned Cavalier Mk II that was well thrashed on its trick shocks and Yokohama 008s and never had bother with that either.

I believe that some manufacturers use a cheaper alloy for discs. A Ford tech once told me they removed the Ti to reduce cost of the disc alloy, although I dont know this to be true.

Sounds like you've been really unlucky mate. The dealer seems to be the big problem TBH though.

I've noticed a lot of people on here worried about the potential problems associated with buying and owning a Skoda. I was one of them.

To all of you reading this, please keep things in perspective. Since joining Briskoda I have made a few observations:

IMO Briskoda is just about the best Forum of its type i've seen on the net. Part of the reason for that is that you will find the answer to just about any problem you could ever experience with a Skoda on here or at least guidance as to the solution.

Because of this, I imagine new members and more particularly would-be Skoda owners viewing the Briskoda forum can be a little taken back by the extent of the issues people have with their cars. It doesn't in any way mean skodas are rubbish folks, the Top Gear survey demonstrates this well. It's just that Briskoda members are keen to share their experiences of their cars with each other and help each other whenever they can. Of course you get the odd 'Friday' car but it isn't the norm by any stretch of the imagination.

But then that's just my opinion as one of the Skoda converted. Feel better now.

The main thing here is that we're honest about our cars and can appreciate the bonuses as well as the drawbacks of owning skodas, most sites seem only to be populated by die hard brand supporters, that is to say people who will only ever see the good things about a certain brand, hype it up and never accept that a certain model/brand has some kind of limitations or downsides, they will believe anything other than what they drive is crap!

I am far from happy with my Superb, but - I am by far in the minority of Skoda owners. I keep saying i'll never buy another Skoda, but due solely to this site, I might consider it again one day thanks to the honest views opinions and information that are gifted to us by the other members.

It always makes me laugh when people are so blind they think there Saxo or similar is the best car on the road bar none, they'd look down on you if you pulled up in a Pagani Zonda!! there doesn't seem to be any of these types on Briskoda, and long may things continue this way!!

if i've never said it before - CHEERS GUYS!! :grouphug:

I take it you don't read the Fabia forum then? ;)
