front wipers dead

Featured Replies

Got in the car this morning, wipers weren't frozen to the screen, & the fronts refuse to work. I'm hoping its a fuse..

Fabia vrs btw

I guess this depends on the model. I had this problem yesterday. I think (hope) it was caused by the screenwash pump being frozen.

I looked in my manual supplement and it reconed fuse 15 or 16 (I think it was) was the screenwash one so I checked it and it had blown. I replaced the fuse and then it was okay again.

For the fuses on my one you have to open the drivers door and then remove a plastic panel on the edge of the dash (the bit that is covered up when you close the door). Be careful not to lose any metal clips though as they can fly off when you remove the cover. To put the cover back though, you'll need to make sure that all the clips are on the cover and then align them with their holes if you dont you'll bend the clips!

Yup, the fuse blows in the washer pump and takes out the wipers.

Make sure you put lots of screen wash that contains an antifreeze in the container, the stuff from the Skoda dealers is good.

:o this happened to me today too! front wipers not working but the rear wiper does! came here 4 advice and found this thread! whoohoo im not alone

cheers, all fused up now.

I'm sure this won't be the only "my wipers have stopped working" thread...

I'll second the "line up clips with the holes" advice, I snapped the hole off with mine :o

I read this yesterday and thought "hope this doesn't happen to me" and... you've guessed it, no front wipers for me this morning!

As an extra note / posibility, if the bonnet ain't shut properly they don't work, so, if you've topped up the screen wash and not shut the bonnet fully they won't work.

We called the AA first time it happened:O

Kept a supply of fuses in the car after the second time it happened:thumbup:

Well well guess what, happended to us tonight on the way home from meeting friends, we at first thought it was the motors that had frozen, due to sub zero temps -6 out in the sticks and touching on -3 here.

Guess what I will be doing tomorrow morning as well as changing both back indicators bulbs which my friend says are pure white flashing like reverse lights.

Thanks to another useful post and with that note I canm worry no more and go to bed.

Had this problem a couple of days ago. Replaced with a 20amp fuse, as advised by my skoda dealer

Lol. wow this cold weather seems to have been causing a few problems. I replaced the wiper fuse. No 21, It was a 5 amp but i replaced with a 10a cos i dint have any. It seems the fluid in the wiper bottle is freezing and causing the motor to pop the fuse.

Keep your fluid topped up and this wont happen unless your megga freezing!!!! HTH

Adding sufficient anti freezing screenwash is also mentioned as part of the rear wash wipe feed pipe leaking and soaking the rear seats IIRC. If the fluid in the pipes freezes it can force the joints apart so the next time you use the rear wash it goes everywhere and soaks the rear seat.

Do not forget the Fabia uses mini fuses

DO Not go and buy a bulk supply of standard fuses like some muppet did :-) all prepared for the winter NOT

Take it you can get mini fuses in halfords ok?

I can beat that, I made up a list of all the fuses that my Passat and my wife's Polo used (value and size), a few years ago, then put it in a safe place. Don't you just love the way that most places sell "selection boxes" of fuses, normally half a dozen ones that never blow are all you get from them - even the VAG bulb kits are a bit of a let down on the useful fuse department.

You can get plenty of fabia mini-fuses out of the fuse boxes in fabias at scrapyards. :D I got loads of them now (makes up partially for the extortionate prices I was charged for some bits and pieces from there ;))

Wll SWMBO will be today reverting the left hand drawing in the handbook of the fusebox to right hand drive.

Yeah Its A 10amp Fuse They Blow All The Time. Check Your Owners Manual It Will Give U Location Hope That Helped You

Omg :-D Same thing happened to me yesterday, wipers not working. I was silly enough to suspect the fuse last, so I disconnected the battery for an hour hoping it was a "glitch" :-)))

The fuse is number 15, and it's 10A, yes. Although I do not reccomend anyone putting in a "stronger" fuse, you risk frying the pump motor!
