Rear centre headrest

Featured Replies

I find that the position of the centre headrest (I have the ski flap in the centre) is useless for anyone other than a child, who would be in a dedicated child seat anyway. The headrest has no adjustment upwards to safely be in the correct position behind an adults head.

The left and right seat headrests will fit so will ask dealer with regards to changing the centre one...gratis...

You're dealer really must love you!!

No different practically every VAG car Ive had in the past several years...and have had a few.

I agree the centre rear headrest is a bit pointless but I cant see a dealer changing it out for you for nothing...as technically there is nothing wrong its by design, albeit a bad one :-)

I hope you inform your insurance company of your modification, you will be able to see f*** all out of the rear view mirror ...........

Please explain. I'd have thought you'd see better without the headrest???

Seems octavianestate wants to replace the centre one for a side one.

The Type Approval brigade will be along soon ........

Do you actually need to inform your insurance company because of a mod like that??

What can you actually do down there without informing them?

How do ford get away with it? Or indeed vauxhall

It is not really necessary to have rear view through the interior mirror. It is there as an additional mirror. It is only the outer side mirrors that are required, unless uk has a special additional legislation. You can fill the boot with cargo all the way to the roof (even a person in the middle seat will block the rear view). What about lorries, vans etc with enclosed cargo boxes?

Well, as you say,  I guess that would only be the same as driving a van.........................

Its a valid improvement to the car

But the octavia isn't registered as a van ........

Anyway, the comment was very tongue in cheek, given some of the other advice being given out lately.

At the end of the day, it is a modification from the standard manufacturers specification, so you should inform your insurance company. I doubt they will be interested though.

Well, when not in use the height will be pretty similar to the side ones, even if it has been lifted a little to fold down the armrest. I do not have any problem to see over it (and my driver seat is in bottom position, because I am pretty tall). Lifted and in use you will only see the head of the center passenger anyway. The benefit of the side ones is that they will protect better in a crash.
