Dear All,

On Thurs morning, my 97 petrol manual Octavia vrs (Mark II) did not start as easily as usual - I had to give it a bit of welly - normally I just turn the ignition. But it was fine afterwards. a quick 5 minute journey followed

On Friday same again with a ropey start but this time a longer journey (25 miles return) and afterwards it started fine on return leg.

But Sunday..mmmm

Had to give it more welly and then it fired and almost immediately the red oil pressure light came on. Stopped the engine and put 1.25 L of oil in. oil level now at max point. It did a quick 10 mile journey and all was well. Then it did a 80 mile journey. All was fine

This morning it was fine - it started brilliantly and drove OK.

Checked error codes and there are none. Engine sounds OK. The red light has not come on again

Is my oil pump damaged - how do I know? Booked in for garage next monday.

is it safe to carry on driving it?

All best

Best not run it low on oil then.

Something not good if there was no Yellow Low Oil Warning.

(but like on a MK2 Fabia vRS with only 3.6 Litre Oil capacity it can go 1.5 litres +low and No low Oil Warning,

then up pops a 'Red Low Oil Pressure light' or Message.

Hopefully all is well.

Agreed about oil level. And strange that the red light came on, with no interim yellow light - any ideas on why that is the case?

By giving it welly , did that cause the oil pressure light to come on?

Any views on issues?

oil pump ? etc etc ?

All best

Tell us the story then.

?

When did you check the Oil Level was correct?

When last was the Oil & Filter changed, filled to the correct level and was it a OEM Filter and what oil was put in?

How many miles has the engine done now?

Oil level last checked 3 weeks ago, but car since done 3000 miles,

oil filter and oil last changed beginning August. Castrol Edge 5W30 - dont know about filter (assume OEM)

Engine has done 99K

1000 miles a week? Are you sure?

Unfortunately yes

A couple of trips to Wales and Norfolk all add up, plus 2 trips to the Downs - plus the weekends!

As the car seems to be running ok now , do we think it is ok to drive or at least until the next red warning light?

All best,

Update: a pressure test was done by the garage. This showed no issues

Car has now been driven for over 10K miles and has used 2L of oil.

Thanks for earlier advice

All best
